The first commercial was actually really good but they should've showed the kid using drugs as the monster got happy for him using..it would've made it more clear on the fact that addiction is a monster attached to the user.

The best deterrent for me was volunteering with my parents giving our food and blankets etc downtown to the homeless. Many were barely functioning and it made me feel so sad for them.

I remember most of those commercials vividly. Hell, the dude that turned into a snake freaked me out. They didn't keep me off drugs. They weren't even a deterrent. Perhaps had someone said, "you're going to love crack from the first moment you try it. You'll put it before EVERYTHING else your life...family...friends ....money...career...health...etc.." Maybe if they'd just told me the truth instead of all the silliness in this video I wouldn't have been clueless enough try it in the first place.

Great video! Just want to point out that i grew up watching all those psa’s and I still ended up a junky. Good parenting, good environment and luck are the only things I think that will discourage drug use. If you join the military like I did it’s almost inevitable lol

I'm the 80's they had rockers against drugs commercials on t.v. where an 80's rock star would do an anti drug commercial. Jon Bon Jovi was the only honest one that I believed, when he came out and said: Drugs are not an everyday part of my life. I believed it, because he didn't deny doing them like the other rockers who would deny it. Drugs was a big scene for all rockers in the 80's. At least Jon Bon Jovi didn't lie to his fans.

when you realize Pee Wee Herman told kids how unglamorous crack cocaine was and later in life played one of the most flamboyant Miami coke dealers of the 80's in "Blow." so winning.

My favorite motivational ad was “this is your brain and this is your brain on drugs.” It was this analogy of an egg and my birth before drugs entered the picture, and an undefiled white egg. And when the undefiled “Brain” inside, was cracked open, and spilled onto the hot oil skillet ; i got the message! And when I was with my friend who thought doing recreational drigs made him look masculin instead of look like my friend i hung out with to play Hot Wheels with. While he smoked a joint, I noticed the way the drugs “fried his BRAIN,” and I discovered he was no longer the kind of frie_d i want to hang out with. He frie’d his frie[n]d ship with me. Then find out from my folks wondering why I don’t visit my friend and i told them about his drug habit, that they think he’s cool, because they “used to” do drugs too. It might explain why i was born with birth defects. “Thats not cool.” Thankfully, I understood the message seeing how it fried my folks Brains kept me from being cool like my folks. I resent that this commercial was one of 10 bad drug ads. Cuz this one kept me out of what is cool. Plus the birth defects requiring medical reversal intervention. These kids who are born Male, but act female. And the girl with the battle for qualities being masculinity this drive to be male, did their parents do drugs before they were born? Sexual disorders a side effect of their parent’s use of recreational drugs to look kool? Makes one wonder how many experimented with recreational drugs to see the damage it has done to us; their offspring? Even our ability to rationalise between what’s kool and what’s not has been altered by our folks fried ability to reason clear headedly, being circumspect.

I never saw Paul Rubin’s message growing up, but the way he delivered this ad is very good indicating that his character while amusing influences his followers of commedy that crack is not funny and this ad should continue to be shown. Great delivery about how bad experimenting with scarey drugs really is. And at times the scarey ads are the ones most etched in our minds as young adults with an inner child within us, told not to touch the HOT stove, makes us more curious to do the opposite, but once we experienced getting burnt, we learn : “not to.” But if we could learn from some one like us, who also uses his inner child to share this message gives us the 2nd chance “not to” before we listen to our inner child to play with drugs.
