During the 1977-78 season, NHL players were required to wear their surnames for the first time on their jerseys. But stubborn Leafs owner Harold Ballard refused, claiming that it would cause a decrease in Leafs program sales at Maple Leaf Gardens. Therefore in order to comply he had BLUE letters stitched onto BLUE away jerseys, making the names unreadable. The following year however, Ballard complied to the new surname rule ( or else face a heavy fine $$ ). Those blue letter jerseys must still be out there and therefore quite rare and valuable.

I’m a Canucks fan and in my early twenties I saw the announcement and rollout of these “V” jerseys. I think I spent a couple days trying to come to grips that this was not a joke. Good story from a Canuck at the time, Don Lever stated that the first time they wore them was a road game in Edmonton. As they went onto the ice, the laughter and berating started immediately. The Canucks got their butts handed to them. In the after game interview, Don Lever said “they dressed us like clowns, so we played like clowns”. Canucks front office did not take kindly to that.

I kinda like the Coyotes original sweaters...lot of SW accent and maybe a reminder of a peyote trip? Another candidate is the Penguins sweaters either the "Pigeon Head" logo or the diagonal "PITTSBURGH" one. TG they went back to the Skating Penguin. Also, way back in the 60s, the skating penguin had a scarf that is rumored to be an honor to a live penguin they'd bring from the zoo to flop around the ice before games, who died.

Islanders gortons frozen food/simpsons sea captain mashup thing...id replace this with the Yotes jersey because the square art thing and colors along with other subtle things were/are southwest US and fit at the time. I am a Ducks fan so I may be biased but the Ducks 3rd Jersey (Black with eggplant) is one of my favorite Ducks jerseys of all time. I have zero idea why it’s not liked. As far as wild wing goes, Ducks fans pay a stupid amount of money for that hideous piece of garbage now. I own most of the Ducks authentic jerseys, I will never own that one.

I disagree with the coyotes jersey and the cartoon ducks jersey. The coyotes jersey just works in a certain type of way, the delicate designs and colors match so well with the vibe of the jersey. And the cartoon jersey is different in a good way, the teal is a good fit for the jersey, there's something about the way the goalie is doing a super man dive, with the details of the ice and just the overall design of it, I think it was pretty good.
