The thing about the lack of technology at Hogwarts is that the magic wavelengths or whatever around the school disrupt anything technological from working at all. It was mentioned in the books at some point.

When it comes to technology people keep forgetting how far we've gone in past 20 years. Harry is supposed to be Gen X. Hardly anyone had a cell phone as a teen, there were no smartphones yet. Internet was slow and not easily accessible, no free WiFi, no KZfaq, FB, etc. Things were just starting. At that point your wand would be much cooler and magic would be more advanced than any muggle technology.

The wand would be cooler, yes, but magic being more advanced than muggel technology? Not really. Even back in the 90s you had video game consoles, cassette decks (Walkman), VHS and portable CD players (and by the end of that decade the first MP3 players, Discman and so on).

The smartphone wasn’t created at the time this was set, and google would’ve been founded during the 7th year. It’s also said that electrical devices don’t work bc of the amount of magic surrounding the castle so even if they did take smartphones in, they wouldn’t be able to use them

@@ferrin6326 Yes , I think it is pretty clear that Rowling made an intentional decision to keep ANY sexual reference more explicit than a kiss completely out of the books. Which is understandable. Although they are an all-ages phenomenon now , they are at base a childrens series that progresses to young adult by book 7.

The defence against the dark arts post is jinxed by Voldemort himself when his request to become a professor was rejected. Hence no teacher was there was more than a year But after Voldemort's death the jinx was lifted and everything was normal :)

zuky35 Well, they have moving portraits that can talk and communicate with people, but picture it, the problem of knowing who put Harry’s name into the Goblet of Fire would’ve been solved a lot faster if Hogwarts had higher security. Imagine if Barty Crouch Jr. disguised as Moody got caught trying Harry’s name into the Goblet of Fire, he would’ve been immediately sent to Azkaban. If that happened, Harry wouldn’t have joined the Triwizard Tournament, he wouldn’t have had people yelling “POTTER STINKS” in front of him all the time, and Voldemort wouldn’t have resurrected to his full form.

zuky35 Just think of it. There are werewolves, giant spiders, trolls, dragons, and other deadly creatures, but what’s worse is the Dementors. Just imagine one inside your room sucking your soul out while you’re sleeping. Also, imagine sleeping at night and you suddenly get affected by lycanthropy after being bitten by a werewolf like what happened to Remus when he got bitten by Fenrir Greyback when he was little, you wouldn’t want to live in a place where death and harm is a very common thing. In addition, you might encounter people who would use magic the bad way like breaking into other people’s houses and stealing stuff just by saying “Alohamora” to unlock the door. I’m not saying that all wizards do that, it’s just that life at the the Wizarding World isn’t as easy as one might think.

@The God Emperor Himself Which is kind of a plot hole, because of Collin's camera. Not magical, and the pictures only get magical (start moving and so on) when develloped in a special potion. Also the "no technology" thing is one of the reasons why pure-blood supremacists exist in the first place, because they live in their own world and really belive that they are supperior to muggels. If Voldemort really had started a war against the muggel world he would have lost big time, because the wizzard world is still stuck in medieval times.

The point system is a old british school thing that some private schools still have. Yes there would be favouritism during this. Some teachers would doll out more points than others for students doing the same thing but in the books, 2 or 5 points seem to be the standard "You answered all these questions correctly, well done" with 10 points being something given if you've completed a test 100%. When it comes to the ending of the 1st and 2nd books, Dumbledore was awarding them all points because of their roles in stopping the evil person plaguing the school that year. Yes their antics usually broke school rules but Dumbledore valued Heroism, sacrifice and friendship over school rules. Even if Malfoy helped Harry in the chamber of secrets, I'm sure Dumbledore would still award slytherin house 200 points

Same with being a Ravenclaw. I am so sick and tired of Gryfendor. They are just so annoying I was really tired of them by the end of the books. It was almost as though J.K. Rowling was expecting us to show favouritism towards them. I just find them to be arrogant, full of themselves, and… Now I'm at a loss for adjectives to describe them. I suppose one thing you could say about Slytherin is, if they are supposed to be bad, at least it's in your face. With Gryfendors there is so much pretense. They pretend to be all rebellious, yet really they are just shifting Hearo worship from one personality cult to another. It is a house that completely lacks any kind of critical thinking whatsoever. It is a house populated with people that are just completely in capable of travelling the middle ground on anything and actually thinking something through. It's all just how "brave" you are and how well you worship your favourite hero. Nope, the house drives me nuts and I hate it Farmoor than Slytherin.

The story of Harry potter was actually set in the 90s so smuggling in smart phones was a non-issue. however, i have no idea why they use quills instead of pencils or ballpoint pens because those did exist.

thulani marsh the giant snake, killer tree and 3 headed dog are under the lack of rules and regulations/ high chances of death and injuries categories But, I do give you one for the ghosts though. I think a Lack of privacy ( like the thumbnail suggest) is a good category for the ghost

Students had died in Hogwarts and still remain as ghosts, like Moaning Myrtle, it's criminal that the staff don't move a finger about the tortured souls that roam the castle or just occupy a frame on the walls.

Oliver F. Well, we don’t known how many that have died in the castle. While other ghost is just, I think, are invited or just the place they attach to most. Like the defendant of the founders. Everything in the real world has it's ups and downs for a stable balance, why should the wizarding world b any different. Defense Against the Dark Arts class had a curse on by Voldemort for being denied the teaching job by Dumbledore years ago, to always have different teacher each year. And now that he's gone the curse is broken.

The Deffense Against the Dark Arts class never actually taught the kids anything useful except in the case of Bartimeous "Barty" Crouch Jr using polyjuice to look like Alastor Moody. (Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention Professor Lupin, but besides Lupin and Barty Crouch no DADA teacher taught them anything useful)

You should check out a video titled In Defense of Slytherin. It makes a good point that being a Slytherin doesn't always mean you are destined to be bad. 4:12 I'm just going to throw this out there wizard chess club it works for several reasons 1. it gives the more strategic-minded students a chance to shine 2. it's a lot less dangerous than quidditch assuming that it's being played on small boards and not that giant board in the third floor 3. it's less convoluted than quidditch mainly because wizard chess plays the same as regular chess only the pieces are alive (also side note it's really messed up that the pieces are alive just for them to kill each other)4. it takes less time to play than quidditch and 5. it's another way to earn house points in conclusion there is literally no downside to this idea everybody wins well except for the living chess pieces I guess

The changing teacher thing was kinda explained in the bookes. Tom Riddle wanted to be the professor of the defence against the dark magic but Dumbledore didn't agree on that. After that every year there would be a new professor and Dumbledore suspected he cursed this position somehow. Perhaps that is also why the guy with Voldemort on his head (and fake Moody) could be hired because Voldemort had the control over this

Okay, when Mcgonagall said the dungeons, she was sending them to their house commons/dorms since the Slytherin house is in the dungeons. Also, phones, snuck in or not, wouldn't work. Something about magic in the Hogwarts makes electronics not work. Mechanical pencils and such could probably work (over quills) but phones, computers, etc. dont work. And there are some innovations mentioned in the book. Modern plumbing replaced chamber pots, so I think it's not medieval per se, it's just hard to bring innovations into the old castle.

I think the thing that's always bugged me the most about Hogwarts or just the wizarding world in general is the way food can just magically appear. Why then does hunger still exist? And yes, I know there is a troubled history between muggles and the wizarding world. But wouldn't the witches and wizards be like the best humanitarians if they magically ended world hunger? The muggles wouldn't even have to know where or how the food got there. They're fricken witches and wizards for god's sake.

Gamp's law of elemental transfiguration means unless you've got the food somewhere else, you've already got food that you can multiply, or you've got food you can fix up, no. And duplication isn't a valid option, it's gonna take a lot of time and I don't think the food will keep its nutritional content.

In regards to the ever-changing DATDA teachers, the position was cursed until Voldemort was killed. No teacher would last more than a year as the DATDA teacher until Voldemort was finally killed for good.

I think those with multiple traits would be sorted into hufflpuff because the house is also for those who don’t fit the other houses categories hence some people think the house is for untalented wizards when in fact hufflpuffs are like ravenclaws expect they figure things out rather then being geniuses.
