Lindybeige did a video where he proposed that the reason gladiators wore such face covering helmets was so that they could "hide their cheating." That is to say, he suspected that what they were actually doing was shot calling each other, in order to sell the matches better. When I see things like this, it really hammers on how Professional Wrestling is the modern day Gladiatorial Sport.

Asuka was always a favorite of mine to watch at random and I like her because she doesn't say too much, and she just says enough about what she's going to do or what she wants them to do, but she doesn't say a lot. Becky has called her out backstage to be more vocal on high spots (or the 'big finish' spots towards the end of matches), but again, I think it's just her own and maybe that's a part of Japan's pro wrestling style where they don't talk a lot in the match, but they indirectly communicate with body language and their hand signals seem to be high up there in communication because I have seen that happen in Japan's pro wrestling where they don't talk a lot, but they do communicate with hand signs and little motions with their arms that are hard to find unless you're looking for it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this. If you’re a true wrestling fan you’ll have no problem embracing this as part of the sport. It promotes safety and makes for a more entertaining experience, in almost every sport people communicate.

Seems like for the most part the bigger fellas who have deeper voices have a harder time masking there spot calls

My favorite is from the triple h stone cold match featured here (the stunner closeline clip) At the end of the first fall (it was a 2 out of 3 falls match) Triple h lost to a stunner and the announcer forgets to announce Austin as the winner of the first fall. Triple h (who is supposed to be unconscious from the stunner he just took) yells about “ANNOUNCEMENT” twice then proceeds to say to the ref something along of “tell the announcer to do his fking job” before the announcement is finally made. Absolute gold.

Lowkey telling someone saying “slap me” is exactly what’s said 90% of the time seconds before someone’s slapped
