#47 on the list of Top 100 Metrodome Moments: On May 3, 2001 Chuck Knoblauch was repeatedly heckled in left field, and the incident came to a head in the sixth inning when fans threw hundreds of hot dogs in his direction (it was Dollar Hot Dog Night). The Yankees pulled their team off the field, as Twins' Manager Tom Kelly tried to stop the fans and prevent a forfeit.

I was there, in Left Field Lower General Admission, about 15 rows up. It was Dollar Dome Dog Night. Every hot dog came in a foil wrapper, which constituted 95% of the items chucked at Chuck. When someone threw something, they were pointed out to security by the rest of the fans. A very memorable game, to say the least.

After Bob Casey announced that if the action continued that the game would be forfeited and the Yankees would win, then it was pretty much just Yankees fans throwing stuff on the field trying to get that forfeit.

They would have put the blame on any incident they could to cut the lost profits on the dogs, this was just the perfect time for them to cut the deal down in size with a “reason” to point at when questioned why cause they can’t just say the real reason - money

Wasn't long before Yankee fans felt the same way about Chuck in the 98 playoffs. When knoblach covered first and the ball hit the runner and Knoblach just stood there arguing instead of getting the ball while key runs scored. New Yorkers were pissed. Then all the errant throws and yips troubles he had lol As a kid I cut school in nyc back then and rode the Subway back and forth to kill time. I end up running into Chuck Knoblach on the train during this time circa 98 99 lol Super sweet guy signed my school notebooks. Sat and chatted with me a bit until he reached his stop. After meeting him you realize what a great guy he is. Sadly for me that autograph got me caught cutting school... But it was worth it

hmmmm, this is from 2001. Chuck left after 97. If I remember, werent the fans throwing stuff because the Twins were in danger of being contracted? I mean, why would they throw stuff at him 4 years after he left when he has played as a Yankee there since 1998? 91 rookie year wins champ; 92 Twins won 90 games but missed playoff. 93-94-95-96-97, Twins had losing records, and with the White Sox and Cleveland rising, Twins were gonna stink till 2002.

A few things that led to this incident: 1. The Twins had a very, very strong start to the 2001 season. They were in first place for most of the season before collapsing in the second half. So at the time this game was played there was a lot of enthusiasm from Twins fans. 2. Chuck Knoblauch had his throwing problem at second base, which made him a target, and 2001 was the year he switched to left field. This put him close to the fans in the left field seats, which was usually the rowdiest place in the ballpark. 3. There was a large group of young fans in the first row of the left field seats wearing shirts with letters that altogether spelled out “hey chuck you suck”. This also added fuel to the fire.
