Someone pointed out to me that I haven't done any of the 8-bit generation of consoles yet - so here are 100 NES Games in 10 Minutes!
This is actually another "Top 100" list - this time, compiled by the good folks who voted over at GameFaqs
www.gamefaqs.com/boards/91638...
BEFORE you add a comment, Punch Out is not repeated. There are entries for Punch Out and Mike Tyson's Punch Out. Are they just reskins of the same game? Possibly. But they were voted on, so here they are.

Lol there's no "games" in my mom's dictionary. My dad, though, would always beat me in every games I had xP My mom would always got mad at my dad when he was "in the zone" - taking control of my console pfft - and would yell "Ugh, just like a child! You're old, do something else useful, would you" Hahaha those are good memories x)

It was the first video game console where they paid attention to what games were released on it. Doesn’t mean they were all gems, but it was the first console where when you picked up a game on the shelf you could reasonably assume it would be at least playable and more likely than not fun. Atari before it was the closest to this, but it died because there was so much unplayable shovelware on it that you never knew if the game you would get would be good. NES, most games are fun bare minimum, game design finally becomes a thing during this Gen, and most importantly, Nintendo had Nintendo power, so now you had a thing that told you about the games and what it was like to play them aka a review. So Nintendo controlling game quality that was released, coupled with Nintendo power gave consumers the confidence their money was well spent on any given title in a way never before seen in video games, add that most of these games again were fun regardless, that you never felt ripped off after buying a game, only complaint would be too hard/no save systems. But again this was the I think 3rd generation of home game consoles, and was the first console to actually get it right. Remember Nintendo invented the DPad for home gaming.

@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I've been struggling with this font issue for a while, and I haven't found a good solution for it yet. The major problem is that I'm using pretty basic video editing software that doesn't have a lot of features - like making text easier to read (or even changing font color!). I am looking for other software, though. in the meantime, if you are unable to tell what a particular title is, please post a comment here and I'll gladly answer.

@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that generational jump is a big one. Pretty eye opening; but if you consider 3D graphics, the jump from the SNES to the GameCube is also pretty big. If you have some time, check out my "Evolution of PlayStation" video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y6mBgKh9t7DMYKs.html - that shows a similar series of transitions in the Sony family
@bjraleigh1439
@bjraleigh1439 6 жыл бұрын
you must love the gamecube, seeing you've typed it when you were thinking the n64, hehe. The transition from 2d consoles to 3d is an interesting one. I often wonder if the really good 2d that we saw on the snes and to some extent the mega drive was not all that inferior from a visual standpoint to the 3d we saw from the ps1 early on in its life. 3d graphics had a really crazy WOW factor which I think may have distorted the true view of what we were seeing. I thought vf on the saturn looked like magic and I do recall thinking toshinden and wipeout on the playstation looked mind blowing. Looking back now what we see is low res, low poly visuals that don't look anything like we remember.........well, I can certainly say that for myself. It would be good to get a bunch of 10 - 12 year old kids and ask them what they think looks better today. I reckon the snes might get a landslide victory over the ps1 if we choose the games wisely enough.
@GaryRetroGamer
@GaryRetroGamer 6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about the N64. :) Early 3D really has not aged well; I've grown up through the transition and even I would say that the MegaDrive/SNES 2D graphics are more visually appealing than early 3D (PS1/Saturn/N64 gen). Hand-drawn art trumps low-poly count/low-res textures.

I can't agree with adventure island 2 being so low on the list. The controls are excellent, the music is awesome, the game play can be challenging but rewarding and it becomes more difficult as it progresses and the dinos are super cute. I won't say it is the best ever but come it it has to be in the top 10.

I was a little surprised at the list. I really enjoyed these games that weren’t mentioned; Shatterhand, Abadox, Shadow of Ninjas, Gyruss, Festers Quest, Rollergames, Rolling Thunder, Qbert, Gargoyles Quest, to name a few.

Hi, man. Excellent job. The most signinificant thing in your Top for me is how you could achieve such an authentic picture. The scrolling, colors, pixel blurring is ideal and so similar to original experience for me. Is it matter of emulator or some special graphic filter or may be settings. Could you clear that, please, for I can"t sleep now? :D

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. To be honest, I didn't make the captures myself, a friend made them for me and I just edited them together for this video. I don't know what she did to get this video quality, but I'll ask her :)
