The bourbon is actually really good. My brother bought a bottle, n on the first crack it was so bad. Absolutely horrible. We poured oir glasses out and talked so much shit about it. Few months later he went back to it, text me it opened up and was pretty good. I laughed at him. Next time i went up he had a pour waitin for me n didnt tell me what it was, it was amazing, and it was dexter. We put it in a couple blinds w some really good bottles and its either won or come in the top couple, i dont remember what bottles it beat, but i remember they were really good bottles and i was blown away it beat them. Im actually pretty surprised he ranked it that high on a new bottle/neck pour considering how bad it was for us at first

It's a good pour for sure...I was skeptical at first but turns out to be not too shabby. I believe the proprietor of BB embarked on his bourbon venture after some consultation with some MacCallan (yes scotch) connections.

Nice to see a review on this one. I was super curious to try it given the "200yr oaked" thing (I love heavier oaked offerings like 13+ KC picks, Sam Houston/Calumet ultra-aged, etc). Was glad I tried it but would have preferred I tried a pour from someone else's bottle rather than buying one.

Hey, nice to see you here. Im justin, we traded samples of rare character. As for the dexter, you may not like it on the first crack/neck pour. My brother got it about a year ago, and when we first tried it, it was the absolute worst thing we ever tasted. We talked so much shit about it. Couple months later he went back to it and text me how good it was after it opened up. I thought he was breaking my balls. We put it in a couple blinds and actually beat some pretty good bottles. Definitely needs to open up, but ones it does, it changes a lot and is actually a really good bottle. If i were to buy a bottle, id seriously pour out a couple oz leave it open for a day or two, then go back to it in a month-couple months. But give it a shot, just dont be surprised if you dont like it at first, then be shocked how much it changes when you go back to it after shelfing it for awhile. Cheers!

The Ultimate Spirit Challenge Team gave Dexter Three Wood a rating of 95 points, their highest recommendation, & selected it as “One of the 12 Best Bourbons in the World.“ Probably gives them the right to put top 12 on the tag the same way you claim top whiskey taster from one tasting contest. I bet if you contacted them they would have loved to talk with you about their product and process. I had them make a whiskey for me and it states that it was distilled in Indiana, finished and bottled by Brain Brew. It also states on the bottle they have craft distilleries at Eureka Ranch just east of Cincinnati and in Windsor England. My grain Bill was 74 corn 21 rye 5 barley with 12 % US oak 13%200yr,25% cherry 25% Euro oak and 25%Maple. All of that on the bottle.

@@slvrbach It was okay. Mostly bcause I was able to do some of the mash bill selecting and choose finishing woods. I probably didn't do a great job, but my bottle is almost finished. It was a fun experience and I have a cool bottle that I named and helped create for average whiskey prices of today. I got it when I was newer to whiskey and learning everything I can from ADHD whiskey vids. I would do it again, but try it another way. Bought much worse whiskey from huge brands. Ancient Age my least favorite of all time.

The 36% rye bourbon is a giveaway - it is a standard high rye Ross and Squib bourbon. Indiana distillation. It tastes just like the other Ross and Squib bourbons (like Remus Straight Bourbon) with the same distillate except the wood finish. The guys at Brain Brew are legit scientists who play with wood finishing - you should visit them sometime and see it in action. It's just a 4 year old 36% rye bourbon distilled by Ross and Squib. These guys add the wood finishing. This is a really good $50 value. So, if you are interested in a nice 4 year old bourbon with an exceptional wood finish, I would seek this out.

@@blakestah It sounds like the producers wanted to obfuscate what was in the bottle. If a very informed reviewer still wasn't exactly sure what he bought after some research, then the average consumer surely wouldn't be. (If anything, it seems like the label might not even be adhering to labeling laws...?) I can't think of an instance in which a producer lost out by putting *too much* information on the label (or at least their website). I don't understand why some continue with the smoke and mirrors. Also, they're just lying about it being one of the twelve best of anything. So I'm not sure how one justifies that. Shady.
@ADHDWhiskey
@ADHDWhiskey 4 ай бұрын
Like all of my reviews, the information on the bottle is what gets the attention. The only reason I searched for their trademarked wood finishing process was because I was curious as to what was so proprietary about it. If they wanted the consumer to know all about the cool stuff they were doing in Cincinnati, a great place to mention it would be on the back label....or neck tag even. "Learn more about what makes our whiskey special at "insert website." Instead, they took the "Top 12 Bourbon in the World" route. 🤷‍♂️

Dexter and brain brew are an interesting situation… lots about it and their sister brand Noble Oak are super sketchy and not very transparent on the labels/ website. If they’re using the same distillate as Noble Oak- I can confirm it’s gotta be a Ross & Squibb/ MGP distillate they’re just repackaging and almost trying to relabel as they did the work. Noble Oak does state distilled in Indiana.
@blakestah
@blakestah 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call it super sketchy. They have great tours, and they are all about the wood finishing process. Great tours. But until fairly recently you had to get a bottle in Cincinnati. They likely are struggling with broader distribution. I'll be in Cincy for the eclipse, and I will specifically stop by Brain Brew.
@andykleschick2047

@@blakestahsketchy is maybe far, but I do think personally its sketchy the lack of info or clarity they really provide, unless you go down the rabbit hole on them to figure stuff out and find it. To me- not stating where the distillate is from is non transparent and sketchy. Like the Junkies say- I don’t care if they’re making the whiskey or not, just be transparent on everything going on, instead of forcing me to go down a rabbit hole to find everything. That’s why I call it sketchy. It’s average bourbon for the price, just be more transparent! Especially when you’re charging $50-60+

@@andykleschick2047 I get it for $52 when my friend from Cincy goes back. It is a VERY VERY competitive $52 wood finished bourbon - comparisons could be drawn to OF 1910 and WR double oaked at similar prices. It doesn't taste exactly like those, but hints of the wood finishing process are similar, laid over on that high rye Ross and Squib distillate.
@andykleschick2047
@andykleschick2047 4 ай бұрын
@@blakestah oh I’ve tasted it and it’s not bad for the ~$50 price here a bottle in the Cincy market I agree. Just at least say state of distillation and that you’re finishing it too. For that price or higher, I just want more detailed info on the brand and what they’re doing and if they’re doing the work or not- because otherwise I’d rather just go for 1910 or double oaked where I pretty much guaranteed know it’s them making it and has consistent known history
@blakestah

@@andykleschick2047 So, do you know, for example, that WR double oaked is about 70% distilled at Old Forester and then blended with the residual distillate from the pot stills at Woodford? Is that written on the bottle anywhere? It is the same parent company, but completely non-transparent.
