I think Founders... is an underrated solo game. Very addictive but, for me at least, incredibly difficult. Having discussed it on BGG, I'm not sure the 'build a whole pyramid' challenge is actually possible. Regardless, it's a very enjoyable game.

I loved this show! I am a huge solo gamer and I love Mike on the One Stop Coop Shop - even though he has different tastes to me at times. This was a great episode :)

40:35 I think the runaway leader issue with Heat is mostly against legends. It can become really hard to catch up to them if they get too ahead. But multiplayer, there is always a player dead last that catches back up to the leaders, that's why it's so exciting for us. In many games I've played, a player that spun out managed to finish in the first 3 positions, and sometimes won the race.

The solo variant of Root may make me finally enjoy it. I refused to play it because every time I did I got creamated regardless which factiion I played.

I would agree that Root Solo is tops for what it offers. I don't have huge game nights and some of the games I have(Including Root) is definitely overwhelming for my wife. The BOTS surprisingly play similarly to an opponent. Sure there are some management and rule checks but it's satisfying.

I highly dislike car racing, but Heat is just too fun and versatile. I play it solo or multiplayer, with beginners or advanced gamers, everybody has a fun time!

Eh I really don’t like the Ark Nova solo variant. The way time between breaks decreases doesn’t flow well. Typically in multiplayer I find the early breaks come quickly because you have less to do and people want more income. In the solo, you spend your money and don’t have much else to do, but there’s about 7 actions! Then later on when you have loads of stuff to do, you’re only getting a couple of actions. I think it would have been better with, maybe, 5 rounds of 5 actions.

Stars of Akarios fenomenal? I don't know, there are serious balance issues and other problems, but the potential is there, that's why they're doing a new kickstarter with an updated version.

Am I wrong in there was only 2 variants in this list. I thought solo variants were not official solo modes, but made by someone other than the creator. Could be totally wrong though. I think a video that highlights fan made variants would be cool, maybe a user poll? That said, I still have Ark Nova in the shrink because it just seems like so much work for solo. Hearing Chris likes it is surprising.

nope, we were just talking about solo modes for existing competitive games, which means they change the rule in some way to make the game soloable. doesn't have to be fan made. i agree it would have been nice to talk more about fan made stuff, but unfortunately between us we hadn't played many of them. sorry for the confusion
