For me, born in '84 in Portugal and first exposed to "The Sound of Music" at a very young age (about 6/7), I can never forget that. It is so foundational to me. Everything about t was so amazing: the wonderful music and lyrics, learning about all the similarities and analogies between myself/my family and the von Trapps, learning about people outside my immediate proximity, learning English and how English could meld into wonderful melodies and English, learning about Austria and Germany and WWII (which I was to process over the course of many, many years) and everything together building an awareness that the World was much more wide than the immediate vicinity of my parents and my family and my town - all this melding with the riveting Music and song.... The US have truly made a huge contribution to Humanity, no matter how many problems they have (which have been under scrutiny in recent decades but really are the same that Humanity have always had). I'm thankful to all the creators that have made all this possible. FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY Mary Poppins! When I was young some of the lyrics were hard to understand but through the years all those melodies and lyrics and situations in life were so remarkable to me. Not to mention, OMG, the animated characters are interacting with the real actors?? OMG THIS IS MAGICAL AND AWESOME! EDIT: yep, in retrospect, I got a thing for the lovely Julie Andrews! And I'm, proud I do, too!

“Time Warp” deserved to be in the list (and is, imho is a classic,) but there could only be 20, so there you go. I think that “the sun will come out tomorrow” is more iconic in Annie, but that’s splitting hairs. I agree with the general consensus that “somewhere over the rainbow” and “rainbow connection” should be included. There’s just so many great songs from musicals, it’s hard to narrow them down

I couldn't let this lie. Absolutely! While in the shower, I have never sung 'Steppin' Out With my Baby' from Easter Parade. I HAVE however sung the titular 'Easter Parade'. So I give Mojo's list about a 4 out of 10. Nor, while in the shower, have I ever sung New York New York or even Ease on Down the Road or anything from Willy Wonka. With about half an hour of Googling, I came up with my own list of additions that are actually good shower songs. Mojo, you've got to at least consider: Tonight - West Side Story On the Street Where You Live - My Fair Lady Edelweiss - The Sound of Music Hello Dolly - Hello Dolly Wouldn't It Be Loverly - My Fair Lady Show Me - My Fair Lady The Rain in Spain - My Fair Lady Get Me to the Church on Time - My Fair Lady How are things in Glocca Morra - Finnegan's Rainbow Ding Dong the Witch is Dead - The Wizard of Oz At the End of the Day - Les Miserables Master of the House - Les Miserables Oh What a Beautiful Mornin' - Oklahoma Put on a Happy Face - Bye Bye Birdie What a Feeling - Flashdance Together Wherever We Go - Gypsy Fame - Fame Money Makes the World Go Round - Cabaret Chim Chim Cheree - Mary Poppins

Walt Disney’s favorite was “Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag).” So much so, that he had it played at every meeting. My most catchy song is “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day from The Man Who Knew Too Much, not necessarily a musical, but about the most catchy song by a songstress not to even appear on this list. Judy Garland’s “Trolley Song,” from the great “Meet Me In Saint Louis” ought to be number one on this list, at least according to my daughters. Then she tops it off with one of the most memorable Christmas songs of all time, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” that will make the coldest of souls melt to tears.

You could have left Grease off, though I love it too. It's from the late 70s and isn't really a "classic" like the others. Alot of people forget about The Unsinkable Molly Brown too.

A great list. Rita Moreno is an EGOT winner (Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, Tony) one of only 16 in history. She sizzles in "America." Of course, there is nothing like Gene Kelly singing in the rain. The most catchy song in Mary Poppins is " Spoonful Of Sugar"- it is sung by Mary Poppins(Julia Andrews) and the children is the best, most memorial scene in the movie, and it has inspired everything from making medicine, vitamins and foods such as vegetables taste better to making chores more fun, it even inspired a box of candy sold exclusively at Disney Parks, featuring Mary Poppin's picture and the catchy words " Just a mouthful of candy helps the wait time go down" , which is inspired from this catchy song, and could not be more true when waiting in long lines at Disney Parks!
