Gene Hackman retired around the age of 70. You know, he is 94 years old.
@nanoflower1
@nanoflower1 Ай бұрын
Yeah, I can't blame Hackman for getting out of the business at that point. It's not like he had anything left to prove. Now he leads a quiet life but there are still people following him around. Saw a clip that someone took of him visiting some shop to get a sandwich and then they followed him out and filmed him eating it.. No wonder he wants to keep his life private. (It was part of a video just like this about people who quit acting.)
@mikeoyler2983
@mikeoyler2983 Ай бұрын
@@nanoflower1 I agree. What I am trying to say is that you cannot compare Hackman and Bridget Fonda. Hackman spent the majority of his adult life acting, and he was successful. Fonda on the other hand quit around 40. I don't blame her, but it is not the same thing. Hackman does not belong on this list. However, Fonda does.

Hackman was 74 when his last movie came out, Welcome To Mooseport. Legend has it that the ray romano movie was so awful, Hackman just gave up and retired. After decades of critically acclaimed films and performances, that 2004 stinker probably made him lose passion for acting. However awful that film was, Hackman was still the only bright spot in the movie.

Rick Moranis stepped away from fame for all the right reasons. He had enough money to take care of his family and wanted to devote his time to raising his kids following the death of his wife. A lot of actors put their career ahead of family and I have a lot of respect for someone who has their priorities in the correct order.

I'm surprised you left out Dolores Hart. She came to prominence costarring with Elvis Presley in Loving You, also costarred with him in Kid Creole, and did a number of other prominent movies such as Where the Boys Are. Then, at age 24 in 1963, as her star was still on the rise, she left it all behind to become a Benedictine nun.

I heartily agree, but I suspect that it's because WatchMojo and MsMojo both think that Hollywood was created sometime in the 1980s. They're typically aware of five or so classic movies and their actors before that (Citizen Kane, GWTW, Casablanca, maybe Rebel Without a Cause, etc.), but otherwise . . . not much. The audience for these videos are not movie lovers, but people who have gone to the movies since they were teens and seek a nostalgia kick.

I was going to say one you left out was Cameron Diaz, who retired from acting following 2014's Annie until you showed that ET clip. She actually has three upcoming films, including Shrek 5. You could have spent a whole segment on Grace Kelly instead of just mentioning her in passing. She made 11 films before leaving Hollywood behind to marry Prince Ranier of Monaco. Three of her films were directed by Alfred Hitchcock, who spent the rest of his career trying to find someone of her caliber. You could have included the three male children from Step by Step. Following that series, Brandon Call and Josh Byrne had no more acting credits, and Christopher Castle voiced a character in four episodes of a TV series. There's also Ted Wass, who played Mayim Bialik's father in Blossom. Following that series, he became a director and didn't appear on screen except for one episode of Bialik's third sitcom, Call Me Kat. Portia De Rossi has retired from acting and reluctantly reprised her role as Lindsay in Arrested Development.
