While there is no guarantee that you'll get to take advantage of Vorinclex's ability the turn you play him, to say that a 6/6 trample haste creature does not affect the board the turn you play him is a bit of an undersell

Totally agree on Glorious Protector. Blink chain shenanigans are the obvious application but even just on the level of COMPLETELY eating boardwipe effects (EVEN EXTINCTION EVENT?!), even on the level of having two relevant creature types, the card is just so gravy in so many different strategies. I don't blame you for saying "unbelievable" so much because it really does beggar belief how many cards in this set will define formats & give more decks more tools to FIGHT those format-defining cards too.

Fun side note on the new resto - foretell this against someone you think might have sweepers. Literal sweeper protection in a pinch (aside from tokens).

Fynn is my fav card in the set, by far. That plus hooded blightfang makes my Golgari Deathtouch heart burst in joy.

Talking from the future, it could be interesting to see Glorious Protector combined with Telportation Circle. Every turn you could go ahead and re-protect new things, or get things that you hadn't protected out of protection. Or, you could rely on it to basically act as the big Teleportation Circle. So Teleportation Circle blinks Glorious Protector and then you can use it to blink everything else (even if there is a delay to it). You could easily run it in a cleric deck that doesn't feature many (or any) angels in it to make sure you are able to protect things reliably while also getting a ton of extra value from things like Skyclave Apparition, for instance. Still, overall, I think you ended up overvaluing the flash status of Glorious Protector and Sigrid. Had GP been able to be foretold for 2 instead of 3, I think that would have made it a LOT better. Holding up two mana isn't too much of an ask, but holding up 3 mana is going to slow most decks down a lot.

So glad an angel is your #1 pick! And yeah, the bounce isn't immediate, but you can target multiples with it, so that's worth a lot.

The colour scheme on the wings on Glorious Protector would look amazing on a 40k Magnus Daemon Primarch...for those with a foot in both worlds lol

Interesting thoughts on the Glorious Protector. My hunch is that it's not that good because it triggers only when it leaves battlefield, unless there is some synergetic way to sack it by yourself.

Valki is D O P E! Played him in a Grixis Control against Lurrus Mill when I was on the play. Turn 2 stole a crab out of his hand. Followed up on Turn 3 by swinging as Valki, becoming a crab during main 2, playing a land for trigger, then: Kroxa. All the disruption!!

No problem getting out Vorinclex turn three these days with the green castle and ramp dudes. Hey dev keep it up and I really hope you'll get early access next time because it's almost criminal to not have you have that. ❤️

pyre of heroes with rampage of the valkyries out is pretty solid. Sac an angel to go get another bigger angel while making your opponent sac a creature. In search of greatness has a pretty decent bottom since if you can not get the free cast you get to scry during upkeep right before you draw.

Can't wait for your deck tech and quick gameplays! Please work on some budget decks for beginners in the game :)

I just went back to MTG Arena after some time off. Have to say Goldspan dragon is probably my favourite big red creature, dragon and 5-drop all at the same time... Those 2-mana Treasures really are a pseudo-protection in an Izzet deck 90% of the time.

Cosima is a top three card from the set. It's going to be a staple of control decks going forward.

I agree about Glorious Protector, it's the anti Ugin/wipe card for white weenie. I also think there's an infinite combo in there with 2 of them and Yorion, but you need a creature with a good enough ETB that's worth abusing.

Great analysis! Almost too much coming in Kaldheim. I agree with your #1 pick - I feel like the top two are both ridiculous depending on your play style and Kaldheim is going to change standard significantly with Protector doing its share of the changing.

Considering there are a bunch of playable Changelings in Kaldheim it actually makes Sigrid's pro-Gods more relevant. Idk man, Glorious Protector and Doomskar look really good together as a top end in Mono-White or White based aggro/mid-range deck to sweep the board of anything scary your opponent has while maintaining your board state and getting extra ETB value.

Hope you get into a prerelease soon man! Would absolutely LOVE seeing you get a new toolbox to brew like a mad man!

I think Dev really didn't see Cosima in action. The card is arguably the best card in the set. Watched a few streamers yesterday with this and I am convinced the card is great.

Since black and white Sac-Cleric is pretty powerful in Kaldheim, Glorious Protector has the most utility of all the angels in the set I'd say. Also End of Turn Protector and Doomskar on your turn can pretty much be gg in 4/5 times.

Glorious protector is easily number one card based on art alone, honestly I hadn’t even brought myself to read the textbox yet

To say Glorious Protector is decent in Yorion is a gross understatement. It allows you to juggle two Yorions around, it is so nasty

Magda is super neat and i have 2 decks in EDH that will use her VERY effectively without changing anything else about them. which is weird cuz she seems kinda niche

Glorious Protector is amazing in my Gyruda deck. Been playing it in Mythic most of today and people are often surprised enough to misplay or rope.

why is nobody talking about Tergrid? what a sick card. I play three copies in my mono black discard/sac deck alongside Rankle. Tergrid is my number one Kaldheim card. goes so well with Rankle, which is still my favorite card in standard.

i think birgi is underrated as long as she's in a deck with zirda the dawnwaker / if her backside get around companion rule, as zirda will make most boast more playable

Glorious protect is your favorite white anti-boardwipe angel... but I wouldn't have put it in top 1 though

This set has proven, beyond any shadow of a doubt (as if there was any doubt anyway), that WotC favors Control over any other strategy. Three mana sweeper and a 2 mana counterspell? And don't try to hurrdurr "BUT YOU'RE PAYING THE FULL COST!" that's completely irrelevant when the only way aggro decks can win is via tempo. Now control has even better tempo!

Um, couldn't Vorinclex be ramped into with elves? Especially with Kell Mitchell aka Tyvar Kell. It also synergizes with the +1. Jorn could also help this deck if you run all snow lands which is kinda gross.

You probably have seen fumarole before in "wandering fumarole" from BFZ. Not the .ost memorable set and not the most memorable card so I don't blame you for forgetting lol.

I like the optimism on Glorious Protector, but I doubt we will see much of it. I'd bet money something like Annul will see more standard play than Glorious Protector. And I do think it's comparable to Thassa. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but looks like its slow and janky. But then again Torrential Gearhulk costs 6 and no one thought it would be good. They do feel similar.

Hey Dev, all respects to your number one, will surely do a lot of work. But did you see what Merchant pulled off yesterday? Turn 2 Ugin due to Tibalt's Trickery. Just food for thought.

No love for Dream Devourer? I think this card will be solid for both EDH and Standard. Being able to disrupt discard stratergies and set up cards for later is strong especially with the new god Tergrid.

Yorion is good because it blinks mazemind tomes, sagas and omens. Glorious Protector only does creatures. I see it seeing play WITH Yorion, but not in place of.

No Koma? I wouldn't put him top 10 but I think he's better than a number of cards in your 10-20 slots. Simic has an easy time getting to the mana to cast him and he does quite a lot. There are ways to get around his "can't be countered" but conversely there are a lot of ways to get around those ways. He's hard to get off the board and his power is no joke.

Glorious protector looks like a pretty good response to doomskar

Glorious protector also saves your non angel board state from board wipes

I don't know about comparing it too much to Yorion because the main abuse of Yorion comes from being able to restart Omens and Sagas because that's totally fair and not f#@king stupid to point it's one of like 3 decks you see.
