These are all well-researched and documented over on the wiki, however one fact little known is that chickens were originally supposed to look like hens, but due to a graphical glitch they ended up looking like chickens. Hope this helps

fun minecraft history facts: - in beta 1.3, there was very briefly a glitch that let you mine air, which would cause the player to asphyxiate. it was patched within six hours of the update's release - during the indev phase, indev release 0.31 20100417 added a new mob called 'the herald', which was removed in indev 0.31 201004171620. nothing is known about this mob other than a single blog post by notch calling it 'that fucking thing' and complaining about how hard it was to animate - after the halloween update (alpha 1.2.0), redstone torches burned out and had to be relit. inexplicably, a burnt-out redstone torch could set players on fire. this was removed in beta 1.0 - during the early survival test phase, one update (0.23_03_19_24 SURVIVAL TEST) removed the player in an attempt to balance gameplay. while the response was positive, notch decided it was too big of a change and re-added the player in the next update (0.23_03_19_24_00_06_22 SURVIVAL TEST**) - while the brick pyramid is a well-known removed feature from the infdev versions, not many people know that there were also pyramids made of tuff, copper, and inverted pyramids made of air which appeared as massive stepped holes in the ground
