Cinematic dumpster fires are unfortunately a common thing. For this list, we’re looking at films that bombed so badly and suffered such negative word of mouth that studios either pulled them early, or a significant portion of theaters stopped showing them. Our countdown includes "Alone in the Dark", "From Justin to Kelly", "Mortdecai" and much more! Which of these films were you able to see before they pulled the plug? Let us know in the comments below!

How could they have forgotten the movie Playback 2012 that only made $264 in the US? It stared Christian Slater and was pulled after only having it out for a weekend. It made a total of $54,945 worldwide. I think that definitely deserves to be on this list.

I think partially what made Morbius so difficult to endure was the fact that it was released just a few months after No Way Home. I started to believe that Sony really did care about their Spider-Man fans after what happened in 2019, but when Morbius came out, I realized at the end of the day, they don’t care about developing their characters or their worlds. They just care about making a ton of money no matter what.

Actually, the biggest tragedy about Max Steel was that it was based on a bad remake of a cartoon that was fairly good. The original version was that the protagonist, Josh McGraph was a college student who played extreme sports. After an accident gave him superhuman abilities and finding out that his adopted father was a high ranking officer in an American spy organization, he decided to join the organization as a super powered agent, going by the name Max Steel.

As soon as I heard about the Jem movie I knew it was going to end badly and as a fan of the show that hurt. It was an 80's cartoon that ran for only three seasons and had no reboots in the decades after like other Hasbro properties (Transformers, G.I Joe, My Little Pony) that would have kept it fresh in people's minds. I always felt they should have gone the MLP route and reboot it as an updated cartoon, build up a new generation of fans and THEN do a movie. Poor Jem. 😢

It's one thing to take creative liberties with the source material, but with Jem they completely disregarded it. Jem's stage performance, as well as her bandmates, WERE holograms. I guess the writers thought they could just completely leave that whole macguffin out of the film, but that'd be like having a Superman movie where he's just a regular dude with no powers.

The show was over by then but I remember she'd rent the VHS tapes for me and we'd watch them together. I later went as her again for Spirit Week 80's day in High School. A couple teachers recognized the look but no students. Lame. Garbage Pail Kids was awesome. It only gets hate bc of the hype. I'm a little sad the misunderstood gem "Last Action Hero" wasn't on here. I worked at a little run down one screen theatre when it came out and it was the closest we got to a new release the whole time I worked there because it was bumped out of first run theaters a week after it was released. For decades, I thought my appreciation for the film was based on my sentimentality of watching it in my beloved run down theatre, but I watched it recently to see if it was as bad as everyone else remembers, only to find out it was better than I remembered, and WAY ahead of it's time. I think it's rallied enough of a well deserved cult and critical following over the years that people have forgotten what a huge bomb it was.

@@abellewis3062 I'm aware of how Dragonball did and cancelled sequels from bad box office happen all the time and in more embarrassing fashion. Just off the top of my head, Green Lantern 2 being announced like a year before the first is even released, Mortal Instruments sequel being cancelled during actual production, the final Divergent movie being unceremoniously canned after a failed TV movie pitch, also not on this video's list.

(This has probably already been mentioned, but here goes...) Michael Cimino's follow up to his critically acclaimed movie, "The Deer Hunter" (1978) was the notorious "Heaven's Gate" (1980). Running 228 minutes, the movie was so wildly panned that it was pulled (if I remember correctly) after just one day. Not only did critics and audiences alike found it incredibly slow-paced and boring, the movie eventually came under fire for it's mistreat meant of animals, including 4 horses who died during the making of the film (legend has it that one of them was literally blown up; not sure if that's true, but that was what was reported at the time). The movie turned Cimino as a One Hit Wonder of a director, and his career never recovered.

I worked a couple of seasons on a terrible, terrible tv series called "Equal Justice", which was unbelievably bad. I died of boredom just being part of it. The weirdness was heightened by the fact that several of the regulars on the show were actually on the edge of becoming successful and famous, but I've never heard any of them ever admit to being any part of it. Sarah Jessica Parker was about to jump into the stratosphere with Sex and the City, and Joe Morton was going to be in some smash hit movies... I think I saw a rerun once, and I couldn't even watch it, it was so awful. They had a bunch of "guest" directors who did not help the show, and spent all their time telling everyone about the last big thing they had done. Everyone was embarrassed by that turkey... It's always been amazing to me that no matter what, there has to be some magical alchemy to film making, since no matter how many success "boxes" you check off, there has to be that perfect mix of people and timing that just comes together.

I have to respect someone who gives his all to whatever he's in. You can question his selectivity all day, but don't you dare question his work ethic. And if he loves what he does for a living, works hard at it, and gets well paid to do it, more power to him: not everyone gets to say that. The irony is that the musical score for Morbius is actually pretty good. I liked it.

The Morbius movie is good. These doinks talking about how bad it is couldn't have done better. They probably don't even understand the movie, that's why they don't like it.

I can't believe you didn't mention "The Swarm." It came out in 1978, and was so bad they pulled it from theaters in 2 weeks. I actually saw it on the first week. It had big stars, and was done by Irwan Allen, but BOY HOWDEE was it bad!

Lol....my sister and I saw this in the theater....I was so bored I fell asleep and stored throughout. My sister told me that no one wanted her to wake me up because I was more entertaining than the movie. I think there might have been a grand total if 15-20 people in the theater.

Live By Night is not a bad movie actually. Shocked that Detroit Rock City isn't on here! It was pulled from my local theater after a week. Love that movie.

I liked Live By Night, I wonder what the criticism of it was all about. Ben Affleck's gangster with a conscience was in his way, heroic.

I knew how this movie was gonna play out when I saw that the writers were the same from GODS OF EGYPT And THE LAST WITCH HUNTER If that's not bad enough, they're also attached to write MADAME WEB

SPEED RACER (2008)- theater managers actually BEGGED WB to pull this one! HEAVEN'S GATE (1980)- the first theatrical cut (at 3+ hours!) crashed so bad the now defunct (because of this movie!) United Artists quickly pulled it after only week to re edit it... only to see it bomb again!
