I understand that the GPRB1000 Rangeman is 60.3 mm, but do you have any intel wether if Casio is coming up with same model only smaller by size like around 53 mm to 55mm..? Great review as always and thank you for your time.

It's not a review, she's reading the spec sheet right down to the GPS frequency which is the SAME for every GPS receiver on the planet, completely superfluous - doesn't even own the watch, just stock photos with a voice over, and what's wit the open captioning? KZfaq has closed captions, so it's another annoyance.

I just bought the b1000-1. I just got it in the mail yesterday. I am THINKING of returning it; it is insanely massive. Can someone out there that has worn this watch tell me if you get used to the size? I want to like it but, holy crap, is it big!!!!

I am kind of watch lover. I do have classic mechanical watches such as Rolex and IWC but on other side I love to have and wear something different. Love my cheap 90's classic digital Casio watch as an example. Anyway... I just damaged recently one Casio watch (I hit a wall when playing laser game :D ) so decided to have something which can withstand a nuclear war plus in parallel way I was looking for dual time self adjusting watch as I am traveling around the globe and tired to set up new time twice per day. So went to Casio store and I have been amazed with technology and engineering of GPRB1000. Yes pretty pricey for a digital Casio watch and definitely I will never use the GPS, Altimeter or Barometer. But I do like toughness of the case and attracted by new display (finally) which can show 2 time zones at one time (finally again). So what to say. Do I need to have this watch? Definitely not. But with my purchase I awarded Casio engineers and happy to have something SUPER cool in my collection.... and yes now I am ready to hit a wall again.

That is awesome! I love it. Yeah, The GPR-Rangeman is typically not the type of watch that you need. It's the kind of watch that you get when you have a great appreciation of the advanced technologies that it contains and/or want to treat yourself. I am so glad that you made that decision to invest in that Rangeman. Just to go back to your earlier statement, which Casio watch did you recently damage?

Hello! Excellent review! What I'm trying to understand is whether the clock should be connected to the cell phone to get the exact time, or is it just one of the options and the clock will show the exact time without contact with the cell phone, by receiving information directly from the satellite (GPS). Once this watch is sync with your smart phone.... and you receive a text or email... does it show up on the watch? Does the watch tell you that you have an email or text message? I have a Suunto Alpha Traverse and it does what I am talking about. Very nice feature. When I get a text it scrolls across the screen on the Suunto. Just wondering if the Rangeman does this?

Great question James. Rangeman isn't a smartwatch, so it doesn't have the features of receiving a text, email, notification, etc. Suunto Alpha Traverse definitely has the GPR-Rangeman beat on that

So Im trying to understand my interest / addiction in these little bits of plastic and metal I am curious what, other than just liking them, is the attraction you have in G-Shock . Amazing watch! Question...you said the GPS functions could only be continually used for a short duration without wireless recharging. Can this watch be used to GPS track a weeklong wilderness trek in the western US where it would NOT be possible to use any type of recharging besides the solar recharge function? Thanks

+Curiobill this is a great question! So like I said, the GPS can work for about 33 hours on a single charge. Now, when the battery dies during that weeklong wilderness trek in the western US, just be aware that 4 hours of direct sunlight will revive the watch's GPS for an hour. So in this case, my strategy while I'm trekking that week would be to make sure that the watch is receiving direct sunlight so that it can keep the battery life up during the daytime. This would probably mean that I have to be aware of a water source to avoid overheating, etc. Now...if the weather is gloomy for that entire week, then I'm screwed hahahaha This is right off the cuff, so I definitely need to iron out those fine details.

Case size is 60.3 millimeters and the weight of the watch is 142 grams. So it's definitely a bold watch. Not a good choice for people who have small wrists (165.1 millimeters), unless they're into that kind of look, of course. :-) Hope this helps.

Seems like a cool watch but it's a bit too complicated and not really self-sustainable if you have to pair it with a phone. I think I'll keep my Rangeman GW-9400.

I've read that it doesn't need the phone to keep with time. it will auto connect with satellite once a day to keep time. It's only when you have your phone with your it will auto connect with your phone and keep time 4 times a day. Other things it can do with the phone it can do on it's own, the GPS connection works independently.

i was actually looking to purchase a gw9400 ou this one. i like the fact the gprb1000 time calibrate from gps signal because i live to the outer limits for wwvb reception. gprb1000 still might have too much gadgets in it tho

i also have this rangeman, i have calibrated it to 0m & the difference also 0m, but if i walk about 30 meters (normal roads not gaining any altitude) and i saw again the altimeter, the numbers is increasing, it shows 25m & also 25m (difference). is it normal? because many users also have this problem in this watch. Please help :D

Most watches calculate altitude based on the barometer reading. So it changes based on that, even if the watch remains in the same spot

here's my advice for you kids NEVER pay more then 350 for a digital watch. made that mistake before... the prices ALWAYS go down, especially with the gps related stuff. Reason? better stuff always comes out around the corner. Garmin 3 sapphire, I paid 750, you can get it for 200 now(not even 2 years) just wait and save your money, buy it used. buying 1 generation back is my new way of doing things. unless you are rich, then buy all the best stuff before it comes out:)

relikvija2 I have to agree with you! This Casio Watch is definitely cool, and from a survivalist perspective its great to have a watch, (or any device for that matter), which has all these features and can charge using solar power. All that said, this Watch is waaayyy too expensive! I had bought the Suunto X-10M watch for several hundred dollars when it first came out and I doubt I could get $50 for it now! I plan to get this Casio Watch, but not until it’s at least half the current price, (which I’ve seen it at $800 right now).

That is my plan. I have the previous Rangeman and the Mudmaster GWG-1000 and several other G-Shocks. I can get the Mudmaster for a lot cheaper now.

relikvija2 Yes & No For next generation you might not have the same model or functionality Everything cut cost The first will always have the best features its for testing the market demands The second version will be for sales they will cut conners by this time you will be piss off why you did not purchase the 1st version Also watches have limited edition In 10 years time watches like rangeman will become a legendary watch with limited edition which means the price is priceless

I have found the Rangeman to be all the watch I really need. Just moved up from a watch with hands that also showed day and date. I feel like I walked into the future and you are talking GPS and a 1000 feature watch that's expensive. That thing will be far under retail price in a year or three. Never spend a lot on digital watches. They hold zero value.
