I think the stairway scene in The Protector is better than the final fight. Its just so iconic to do it all in one shot, and sending the people falling down the center on a far drop is amazing. Tony Jaa will always be one of my favorites. Great list! I haven't seen a bunch of these, so thank yiou for making me aware of them. Drunken Master 2 also has a great scene where he fights an entire school and basically destroys a building while the people are in it by breaking the supports of the building and having it collapse. Thats another one which stands out in my mind, just for the sheer amount of extras that he fights, it seems like over a hundred!
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 ай бұрын
The final fight of Drunken Master 2 (aka The Legend of Drunken Master) is still #1 for me. In the English version, Jackie's names for his moves are very random (ex: "monkey drinks master's wine", "eagle carries wine bottle", "uncle stirs the barrel", etc...). In the original version, however, he's actually naming the Eight Drunken Immortals from the first Drunken Master (1978): Lu Dongbin = the drunkard w/ inner strength [Jackie also plays him in The Forbidden Kingdom under the character's birth name] Zhang (Chan) Gualao = the drunkard w/ the swift double-kicks Lan Caihe = the drunkard w/ the sudden deadly waist attack He (Ho) Xiangu = the drunken woman flaunting her body Li Tieguai = the drunken cripple w/ the powerful right leg Han Xiangzi = the drunken flute player w/ the powerful wrists Cao (Tso) Guojiu = the drunkard w/ the powerful throat lock Zhongli (Jun) Quan = the drunkard holding a pot in his arms He reintroduces these mythical beings during the market fight, and then leaves it up to the audience to visually identify each one during the climactic match against Ken Lo's insane taekwondo. Hence, not only is it engaging audiences beyond just watching two people battle, but Jackie is also playing different characters as if doing an interpretive demonstration of their attributes. A perfect example of multilayered choreography that sets it apart from being just another typical martial arts fight scene.

I'm a little sad that Wesley Snipes didn't at LEAST get an honorable mention for the end fight in Blade. Sure, it was a more "Americanized" fight scene with heavy hits and points for style more than technical prowess. BUT this list doesn't say "best choreographed fight scenes", it's when martial artists went "beast mode", and the end fight in Blade is nothing short beast mode. You got a jacked up Wesley Snipes as the titular Blade going on a vampire and familiar killing spree to get to the main bad guy combined with an energetic, EDM-style score. And of course Blade is doing things like.. ripping a one guys throat out to throw it at someone else, breaking bones, kicking people so hard they go flying, catching leg kicks and snapping legs in half, blocking and throwing flurries of brutal punches. And then when he gets his sword he happily utilizes that as well. So yea.. it's not a super lengthy fight scene that compares to Jackie Chan or Jet Li movies, but this list is about BEAST MODE... And that's some beast mode shit right there. Also.. the list didn't specify a scene had to be grounded in "reality", i.e. comic book movies like Blade aren't allowed because the protagonist has enhanced strength and power and what not. Just because Wesley Snipes was playing a vampire, I don't think that should disqualify him.

Hearing there is an Ip Man 5 coming is surprising because not only did I not know, but I remember Donnie Yen kept saying he wants to leave the role, but then he always come back to it. Also, I remember when I first saw Ip Man. It was wild. I dont doubt there have been Ip Man movies before that 1st one with Donnie Yen, but it feels like ever since that movie they havent been able to stop making movies about him lol. Not just the Ip Man franchise, but theres Grandmaster, The Legend is Born, a Chinese tv series, Ip Man and the 4 Kings, Kung Fu Master, and more.

My dad was b the coolest and deserved his own movie I still hear new stories about his fights when he was younger and u was still a baby he was army trained for over 9years and was a black belt martial artists growing up I hear stories about him knocking people out cold with a round house kick taking on three guys and defeating them all with only his legs not to mention his hands where considered deadly weapons so he couldn't use them, in reality his feet where more lethal my dad was the coolest he was a superhuman a super hero RIP BEN NIETO SHINE IN THE STARS AS YOU LIVE IN ME FATHER

I dont know if it counts as 'Beast Mode' but the Liu Kang vs Reptile fight (Robin Shou) in Mortal Kombat (1995) is quite intense, and probably the best fight in that movie.

They only did that pole slide scene ONCE and Jackie was actually fairly injured. I can't remember EXACTLY what happened, but in an interview he did about his best and worst stunts, that damn pole slide was not only one of his coolest and most dangerous, but also one of the worse he's done with injuries.

Tony Jaa in The Protecter was dope. Single camera, one take for like 10 minutes of him going upstairs whoopin ass is probably my favorite martial arts fighting scenes. They said he was exhausted after that scene. Hope it’s on the list, if not then damnit it should be!

Great list! The fight scene with Gordon Liu tying up all the goons with his rooftop kung fu style in "Return to the 36th Chamber" is my all-time favorite. Also, I like the last fight scene in "Once Upon a Time in China 2" with Jet Li and Donnie Yen, and the fight scene under the train and dock with Jackie Chan and Lau Kar-Leung in "Drunken Master 2."

That No. 3 is by far the most epic fight Jackie Chan ever partook in in his movies. It's not the same rigid dance like coreography like what we had in the first movie, but nice freestyling, and still pulling off the most insane moves. Every hit landed feels as real and as painful as it comes. Awesome stuff from Jackie.

A cool story about drunken kung fu is that there's 8 styles based on individuals of the 8 immortals during a party that got rowdy. Don't know the full story, but the 8 immortals started a fight while all drunk and each did an individual style of fighting. I think I read that Jackie Chan demonstrates all 8 in one of the movies.

I can't believe that the fight from "The One" is only #17. BTS info says they had to film that fight with a high speed camera, then slow it down for the movie, so you could SEE what was happening, because Jet went all out in it. It is why the sparks seem to fall so slowly while Jet is moving at "regular" speed.
