I have to say, The Death we Seek by Currents holds a special place in my heart. It brings me back to those long drives in the rain that i used to do going from my house to a very important person for me at the time. It was a sad and difficult time but i remember falling in love for this album in those moments. I think it's a gorgeous album starting from the riffs to the vocals and the brakedowns Also it's not metal but i really suggest you to check out Explosions, the new album by Three Days Grace. It's not what i expected from them but i think that album is a little precious gem

I am so happy Resolve was so dang high. They are by far my favorite band and are just crazy unique to themselves. Human isn't quite as perfect as BTMATM but that was literally the best first album I've ever heard. Human follows close behind it

Very respectable list, Heavener is also my #1 pick, Invent have been my 3rd favorite band for the past few years now and it's been so awesome to see how much they've improved in that time, Marcus' vocals especially have improved so much in such a short time too, all the recognition they're getting now is so well deserved.

When Color Decay by TDWP released last year, it kinda passed under my radar. However, when the deluxe version with a couple new songs released in spring, i checked it out and found it to be probably in my top 3 favorite albums of all time. TDWP dominated my playtimes for most of this year and while it's not fair to technically include it in AOTY 2023 since the original released in 2022, i don't care because it's new to me.

Another cool thing about Half Me’s Soma is that it might be a reference to the satirical sci fi novel “Brave New World”. Soma in that novel is a wonder drug that induces a state of constant happiness. Its use is a reminder of how easily manipulated the masses are in this society, which the author connects to the real world.

I totally agree with your assessment of Sleep Token's album. I've listened to it at least 10 times , and I just cant get into it. I only like a handful of songs, mainly Chockhold and The Summoning.

Im kinda surprised new Bury Tomorrow album doesnt get much credit, its just great melodic metalcore modernized in a perfect way, probably in my top 3 this year after TMBTE and Heavener, maybe people avoid it cause of vocalist change, but for some reason i got into them even more after that, eventho previous vocalist was awesome too

Lovely channel dude, I am watching all your videos from start to finish! Did you check out the Medieval Death LP + DVD and the Mordicus “Rights ‘n Trials” LP on Yperano Records! What is your opinion on these two 2023 releases?

I don’t think anyone should be arguing against your top 5. It is the objective, universal top 5 albums of the year, or at least it should be. The Currents album is the only album that I think is underrated here, but only because I love every song off that album. I also understand tho that it did not bring as much of a great album experience, so fair play.

I am shocked Currents was on your list. I agreed with your initial take, now with your change of mind and it being on HXC Awards Top 5, I should probably revist it again. My top artist albums, moreso ranked by play times (least to most): Elwood Stray (listening to this ATM, pretty good album) Sleep Token Polaris Resolve Guilt Trip Half Me Veil of Maya Invent Animate Dying Wish

Heavener is the best album in years. But second for me is Hollow Front. It‘s crazy how nobody talks about it.

Gideon was easily my #1 for the year. I love everything about that album and it never stops being fun. I won’t lie, Heavener took a while to grow on me, but I ended up really loving that album too, so I respect the placement of those two on this list.

Great list and I agree with the placement of take me back to eden Imo Sundowning and This Place Will Become Your Tomb are better and ngl the reason for that is mostly because of the trap/hip hop sections and the fadeouts that make no sense My album of the year is obviously Heavener lmao, Zwielicht by Mental Cruelty is a close second tho

my fav is definitely zwielicht. also heart of a coward release is very underrated
