Psst dont abbreviate. For people like me who dont know what that stands for. its one less step we have to do to figure out what game it is. Which in a lot of cases makes or breaks a sale. Just too many games out there now lol.

,,Was'' the best because VC4 sold very poorly at release date both in Japan (worst selling game in series in Japan), and on West (overshadowed by Fire Emblem Three Houses, Dragon Quest XI, and Octopath Traveler + bad word of mounth from Valkyria Revolution). This series, unfortuantely probably is dead, along with developer Sega GE2 (Sega never mentioned about VC after 2018, and Sega GE2 + Mediavision do not made single game after that).

Ohhh I really love VAndal Hearts 2!!! One of my favourites of all time!!! Check Shinning force III for Saturn, there are 3 episodies connected (you can export your saved game between games) and all are translate (by fans) to english

The games that got me into the genre were Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy Tactics A2. These titles tend to be overlooked and started to fade out with time, although they do not look dated yet

Great list, glad to see some of my all-time favourites such as Tactics Ogre (although I think I prefer PS1 version), FFT and Shining Force II, which was my first step into the genre. The obvious absence for me is Fire Emblem Awakening, which, in my opinion, is the best FE game and deserved at least Top 5. Triangle Strategy gets a lot of flak, undeservedly so, for the lengthy dialogs that often last longer than the actual battles but it has a lot of depth and should also be higher on the list. NG+ on hard mode was one of the most fun and challenges experiences I've ever had in a Strategy RPG.

I feel like no one knows about Jeanne D'arc, I'm glad to see it here, this is the game that captured my interest in turn based rpg's. Oh, I miss the handheld era

The greatest Tactical RPG is Kessen 1, 2 and 3. Very fun. It not exactly RPG like as you don't level your forces up, but they do get stronger with better tactics.

It's a good list, but I think it might be a little confused about Tactics Ogre: Reborn. The whole "classes gain levels, characters don't gain levels in a class" thing was from the really old Playstation Portable version of the game. Reborn is a remake that ditched that mechanic and added/changed a lot of the gameplay systems in general. Now your character has an individual level, and that's used to decide what they have access to in every class. So you might have a lv 40 knight with Phalanx III and a level 45 knight with Phalanx IV deployed in the same battle. (I think because Reborn gets called a 'remaster' sometimes, people didn't realize how much the combat, levelling system, and classes systems were completely changed. I imagine they wanted to avoid the term remake, but it's confused a lot of people who were expecting the PSP version with better graphics and got completely different gameplay, classes, etc.)

Yeah i wanted to make tactics ogre reborn for the script and ends up mixing some details between reborn and the psp because i thought they are the same thing except some quality improvement, customization and class changes (I haven't played the reborn that far when i uploaded this video since i thought they are the same). And then realized it a week later that after playing further that the leveling system is different. It's a bit of misinformation from my part, but I've already fixed the information on the next videos. Thanks for pointing that out :)

@@JoelRPG No worries! I'm still catch up to the present, so that video is in my future =] Did you finish CODA 4 on Reborn yet? I entered Reborn with a lot of trepidation (I *love* the female rogue class from LUCT and my favorite character in that game was a ninja using the 2H cursed bow, things that the new version can't do), but even full of trepidation, Reborn completely won me over to the point where after waffling on if LUCT or War of the Lions was my favorite game of all time, Reborn has now thoroughly taken the top spot. I even ended up farming Ambicion and Brynhildr II for fun before putting it away.

After spending over 200 hours on Troubleshooter, I can say with confidence that it is definitely one of my top RPG games with how fun it gets.

I played Troubleshooter last Christmas and thought it was good to a point. There were a lot of NPC side missions, and it felt kinda drawn out. Still worth playing though, and fantastic artwork.

Overall a very good list, knowing some fandom the order or even some games is expecific series might be in different orders, the only game I feel this list is missing is the Shining Force 3 trilogy on the Sega Saturn, maybe Dragon Force, but I couldnt get into even with people saying alot of good things about it

Troubleshooter is probably one of the highest hidden gems that beats so many others of it genres. I’de say it’s in the top 3 tactics games along with fire emblem and xcom 2, probably beating both.

I thought the battle system in Vandal Hearts 2 was VERY innovative, with the fact that you and the enemy move simultaneously, and I loved that. Nobody else (that I know of) has tried that.

A battle system where every time you move, the enemy moves is a staple of the "Rogue-like" genre. There are other Japanese style tactical games like that including Torneko's Great Adventure, Shiren the Wanderer, Azure Dreams, Chocobo's Dungeon etc. Vandal Hearts 2 stands out from those by having large party based battles while the games I listed are dungeon crawlers.

@@bobrong9645 I played both Vandal Hearts games when they were fairly new over 20 years ago. Having an enemy move when your character moves is not at all unique to VH2. Maybe you should try some of the games I mentioned so you can understand the similarities.

HELP!!! Has anyone seen a KZfaq thumbnail. Of a red hair anime dude in a school uniform business suit. With a big executioner sword. I think he was on a car. The building behind him was on fire. The title was talking about. Turn based strategy or tactics games.

If you're looking for a fun SRPG to play, do yourself a favor and try Phantom Brave. A few seconds of gameplay footage doesn't do it justice. It's super quirky and unique, with one-of-a-kind battle system. There's no other game like it.

Engage is better than Three Houses in my opinion. Yes, I know that's a hot take, and I know most people disagree. But hear me out, this is an SRPG list, not a simulation list. Three houses has a deeper simulation side with a better plot, but Engage has way better combat/srpg elements. It also looks way better than 3H and has a ton of fan service for long time fans in the form of pretty much every MC from past games appearing. Engage is underrated because of it's story, but for hardcore players that seek complex battle systems, it is far superior than it's predecessor.

I have a hard time believing you’ve even played any of these games. Describing VH2 gameplay as “not innovative” when it was the first game in the genre to use simultaneous player and enemy movement shows this.

I said, it's not the most innovative. Yes it's a refreshing mechanic, but i didn't found it particularly game changing or anything. I love vandal hearts 2 for the ost, combat feel (regardless of the new mechanic), skill animation and story. But then again, it's just my subjective opinion.

yeah the dual turns was an interesting thing feature of that game, I enjoyed and conquered both Vandal Hearts games. The pickaxe that has "block make" BREAKS the game though lol, one of the biggest bugs I've ever seen. Climb on top of the blocks and control the battlefield so easily
