I'm like that, too. I have a Border Collie and a BC/Rat Terrier cross. Both seniors now. I'm thinking of a Border Terrier for my next one! Smaller, but not too small.

Bichon Frise is incorrectly pronounced as "bacon fries" in this video. Too funny! It should be pronounced more like "bee-SHON free-ZAY". I sure love my Bichon! A lovely, smart, gentle, and playful companion dog with very soft coat that doesn't shed.

I live with Japanese Chin. Was a lap dog centuries ago. Still is. She is a love bug and my mom and Trixie were best buddys. My mother who 80 when she moved in with us didn't want a dog. That lasted 2 days. For over 8 years they were so good for each other.

She is a great dog and loving dog and I love her my 2nd dog is a a male Chihuahua he a very loving dog he loves to hide under his blanket and loves to play he also a very loving dog as well his name is peanut my1st dog name is. I stopped at 18 all but one of these dogs has long coats requiring alot of maintenance I've seen many videos of what they look like when not groomed regularly which cost money that a lot of seniors don't have. Stick with the short coats. Anna In Ohio

@@Memow-pk1ng My Coton de Tuléar doesn't shed meaning there's no hair everywhere. But they are high maintenance. They have long hair, and I don't want her to look like a Teddy Bear (Looks like every dog like them are shaved and look like Teddy bears because people don't want to take time to comb their fur or don't know how) I have to comb her fur everyday. Then all dead hair from shedding go away.

@@juliefiset2327 Same with my Maltese. Daily brushing about 10 minutes daily took care o fany loose hair around the house. It all came out in the brush. We both enjoyed brushing time.

my scottish lived for 16 years. that's 4 years more than it's said. and he was highly trainable. very obedient and smart. I could take him anywhere and he would be just cool and happy. best dog. strongly recommend.

These are AI voices that need to use phonetic spelling to correctly pronounce words. Unfortunately, many KZfaq creators do not take the time to (or care about) reviewing and cleaning up these pronunciation errors. It's GREATLY irritating.

@@bethomansky7139 papillions need a bath once a year or 6 months. Basically when the fur starts to mat more than normal. They do need brushing especially their ears, which they tend to like.

Well it was great until I got to The Great Pyrenees. Being a senior with a Great Pyrenees that I adore, I sure wouldn't recommend him for seniors. Mine is old like me, but he has pulled me down and dragged me. As much as I love him and love the breed, I'm pretty sure at my age I won't be getting another. My problem is that he is very opinionated. He loves some dogs, but woe is me when he sees one he doesn't like (usually specific breeds). If he doesn't pull me down he does wrench my arthritic shoulder. They are not biddable and if given the chance will go for long walkabouts. So it's fenced (at least 6 feet - they climb) or a leash and good halter on walks. If he likes another dog he's great. Even for younger folks this breed isn't recommended as a first or easy dog. They are quite independent and stubborn if they think they should be doing something other than what you asked them to do. They were bred to guard livestock and that's what they do best.. From the breed description, what I described isn't unusual.

Another problem with having a bigger dog when you get older is that you have to help them when they get old. I had a 100 pound black American Field Lab who was all muscle that passed last year at 13. That is the last time I will probably be strong enough to safely lift a dog this size. That probably won’t be the case in 10 years.

I RESCUED A PIT BULL OFF OF SOMEONES PORCH---HE WAS SKIN AND BONE! PEOPLE WERE SITTING ON THE PORCH WITH HIM. I ASKED THEM TO GIVE ME THE DOG. THEY SAID OK. I TOOK HIM HOME AND CLEANED/FATTENED HIM UP. I COULD NT KEEP HIM THOUGH CAUSE IM 75 AND HAVE RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. HE WAS PULLING ME EVERY WHICH WAY. ANYWAY, HE WENT TO A GREAT FAMILY NOW AND IS DOING WELL!

As an 80 year old - where is minature poodle? Owned many large to small dogs and loved each the best. My mini poodle now 16 is perfect fit for elderly. She is geriatric specialist letting me know when buzzers and alarms sound, keeping me on schedule with gentle reminders taking on traveling sslesmen we with a good talking to, playing gently with young or frail, low health concerns, grooming i can do with a pair of clippers (ok not so good as professional but she doesnt care) and her only desire is to keep me safe and be with me.

I'd love to know where you get your information on the Corgi. They are incredibly stubborn and difficult to housebreak and are famous for their barking. Wonderfully intelligent but not an easy dog to own. Oh, by the way. Every Corgi I've ever know has been hyper active. My wife and I take turns walking and playing with our little female. Fortunately we're both retired so it's not a problem. Not exactly a love bug either. They are herding dogs and need a job to do.

Most these breeds are higher maintenance with long coats that elderly have difficult grooming regularly enough. They are matted, gooky eyed, ears and poor teeth. Greyhounds are quickly disappearing as they are no longer adopted or raced. The large herding breeds also have higher demand for grooming and need more exercise.

I loved my pug Otis, but he’s head like a snowstorm! Pugs shed….a lot. I asked my vet if that was normal and he laughed! Pugs shed.

It’s such a shame they bred them longer. So many with back issues and in wheelchairs, I had 2 wire hair before they were red longer and they even had legs! If I could find one like that again I would get one or more!

I'm 82 also, remember having them as a kid, teen, adult, always got as puppies, any breed can be good for seniors , raised properly with discipline. Last G Shep passed abt 10 yrs ago, & could not start with another puppy.

Chihuahuas are a go anywhere dog, light weight, easy to carry, good watch dog and low maintenance. They might outlive you, so you won’t have to suffer their loss, but have someone ready who loves your dog also to leave him to.

I had a Boston terrier, any dog with this much energy isn't for a senior, they are kind and loving, sweet companions, but terribly active need alot of exercise. I learn and another dog to play with. I had a pug they are much better for old people, but alot of shedding constantly . These people didn't do their homework. Both have eye issues, teeth.

If you try to find some of these dogs. Please find someone who knows how to pronounce their names. I have ownedbeagles, and loved them but require alottokeepfromdestructiveness. Where are the chihuahuas??? I have 2 shih tzus and a long coat chihuahua. I love them all. All are loving and sensitive to me. They need more exercise than I can provide, the coat on the chihuahua is so soft. I love long coat dogs.

Cannot believe that this person or perhaps computerized audio really annoyed me . Not just the terrible mispronuncian of breeds ... the point of the badly produced video, but the inexcusable mispronuncian of COMMON English words. I would suggest taking this down until you can do something that is not an embarrassing display of ignorance. Also reconsider your list. One more fluffy white dog is not necessary ! 😫 Go to your local pound or rescue.

Some dogs shed constantly all year, some shed seasonally in summer, and some appear not to shed much at all; but it's important to understand all dogs undergo a normal shedding cycle that can't be prevented

Speaking of shedding…we grew up w/ a kennel (Borodin) of Borzoi aka “Russian Wolfhounds” : Beautiful but need brushing year round. Used by Russians to literally hunt wolves - very popular w/ the old Czars. Been in my Dad’s family (O’Neill) for generations. NOT a dog for Seniors: if they get the chance, will take off & run for miles. Still love the look of them.

I have never heard of a dog called Bacon Fries (bichon frise). What a peculiar name!! Please get the pronunciation right, it sounds so funny saying bacon fries!?!🤣😂 Well, I come to the end of this video and find now that the Pekinese is now called the Pecking Cheese!! Oh please!!! Lol!!😂🤣
