Great choices. I have a Ruger Ranch rifle in 5.56 NATO and a Savage Axis in .243 Winchester. Both are very accurate and fun to shoot. I put the Savage in a laminated stock from Boyd's and it's capable of half-inch groups if I do my bit.

Have had my Axis for a couple years now. I got it for $350 with the optic and I just don't think there was a better option for the price. Even the precision snobs I talked to online when I was shopping say it's a great choice. I really want to go to a longer range than 100yds to see for myself how well it performs out there.

Same rifle but the 2 has a much better stock trigger. The 1, with a new (lighter) trigger spring, $20 and something anyone that has a screwdriver and 8 spare minutes can do, makes it a very shootable rifle.

Howa is criminally underrated, and I’m glad bc they’re a steal. Ppl found out about Tikka and they’re no longer a budget option like they used to be. I’m saving for a super lite now. I don’t know how they did it, but they’ve got a rifle that weighs as little as a NULA from Wilson combat for a third of the price.

Don’t buy a savage. I had one in 7mm-08. Every single time I shot it, I got one good mag off before the barrel started to heat-warp and lost all grouping. Like the first mag would shoot a 1” group at 100 yards, and every subsequent mag would give anywhere from 3”-8” groupings at the same distance. Every time I shot it. I sold it and bought a Tikka T3X Lite in 6.5 CM, which will do 1/2” at 200 yards for hours.
