I’m a grown ass man, that now has a former Navy Seal telling me bedtime stories so I can sleep. How did this happen?
@knybean
@knybean 3 жыл бұрын
@Angry Hippo During my time in the US Navy, the Seals would put us through physical hell while screaming in our faces for hours at night. As long as you didn’t quit, as long as you gave 100%, they wouldn’t kill you. Several Navy Seals would rotate through the group looking for anyone giving less than 100% and if they saw that, Heaven help you! Ballin’s voice is the Seal voice that gives you a shot of encouragement. That you’re doing it right, and if you keep it up, you’ll make it to the end. That voice I’ve heard before, and that tells me it’s almost nighty night time. Zzzzzzz...Zzzzzz. Ni Night Mrballin.

idk about number 2 you might want to refine that to "don't go scuba diving at all" -- most of these diving stories involve people with proper training =/
@samuelrachels3174
@samuelrachels3174 3 жыл бұрын
@@CT-ho6si Nah you can go scuba diving. There are plenty of safe areas where, as long as you keep very strictly to the guidelines and safety measures, you have a very low chance of even getting hurt. Worst case scenario in those situations you pull your belt and rocket to the surface. even in the more difficult dives you just have to be respectful of what you are doing and make sure that you are prepared with every contingency possible. I am sure there are one or two mixed in that are true misfortune, but most of these stories are negligence or downright stupidity. Going past 130 feet without proper oxygen mix (which implies you didn't even fucking google "recreational diving" or anything since it comes up pretty quickly in all of the sites, so not trained at all), not heeding signs that state very openly that you will most likely die past that point, and generally undertaking tasks that are considered near impossible or exceedingly dangerous. Those things are not unfortunate, they are stupid. I do feel sorry for the people that died, and their families, but these are all really really unwise decisions.

I used to work in a vivarium and we had a Komodo dragon. One day he escaped his enclosure - the vivarium had closed and we were waiting to be able to move the animals to the new location - That day it was only my co-worker and me working there. There were construction work not far and suddenly I see a worker knocking on the glass door. I answer and he tells me that there's a really big lizard on the road. My first thought was that it was the smaller Nile monitor that had somehow escaped so I quickly looked in his enclosure and there he was, napping under the lightbulb. So I start running down the road to go see what that was about and there I see this massive Komodo dragon strolling down, having the time of its life. My immediate first thought was, so crazy person has a dragon as a pet somewhere near hear and it escaped. I ran back to the vivarium, found my co-worker and told him what was going on. We took the first things we could find, ran back out there, went past him and started corralling him back towards the vivarium. At some point people saw what was happening and called the authorities. The police showed up but were not trained to deal with a situation like this so my co-worker and I kept leading him back to his enclosure. I was behind him with two large plastic container lids showing him the right direction and my co-worker was in front. We were super close to the entrance when a women appeared with her dog, having no idea what was going on. We told her to leave the area as fast as possible and keep her dog on the leash. The Komodo dragon started to panic and ran past the entrance to the other side of the building and into the forest that was behind it. We followed it and tried to lead him towards his enclosure but he was frantic and the same woman appears with her dog again. At the point I was really scared that he would attack that dog so I shouted to her to just freaking leave the area completely and that it was not safe. After about 1h we managed to get him back into his enclosure and the fact that he was trained and knew us probably helped in the process. It was a very unique and exhilarating experience. I just sprung into action and - thanks to my knowledge - just knew what to do. That same dragon had attacked a keeper a while ago because she was inexperienced and too trusting with him. She was okay but suffered from the after effects of the bites for months after the attack. Other than that he was highly intelligent and very gentle but it just shows you that wild animals just stay wild and unpredictable, even if they were born in captivity.

I remember arriving on Komodo Island in 2008. There were two dragons on the beach which I mistook for statues because they were so huge and did not move. I was surprised that I wasn't given any direction or even a guide to show me around so I walked on the trail for 5 hours taking photos of dragons, deers and water buffalos before returning back to the boat to island hop to Irian Jaya. The dragons looked so clumpy that I wasn't concerned about an ambush but thinking back, was probably not the best idea to be walking around solo.

One of the scariest things I ever learned about komodo dragons is that they have such an intense sense of smell that , because of the size of the island , there is literally no place you can go that they would not catch your scent. Combining that with the natural weapons and speed that dragons have is absolutely nightmare fuel.

The water sucks, humans evolved to live on land, if we were meant to be in the water then we would either be able to hold our breaths for extremely long periods like whales, dolphins, and seals (and then like alligators, crocodiles, and other non-mammalian life that can hold their breath for extended periods) or we would have gills like the rest of the inhabitants of the water.

People suggest this all the time, but you have to remember it's going into a cave. No cell reception or GPS would work. My mother is doing the same for my grandmother right now, gave up everything to take care of her all day every day and I see how incredibly much it affects her. Every second dominated by this ultra needy person (not that it's their fault of course) with an extremely tenuous grasp on reality. And my beautiful angel of a mother gets to her wits end and then feels horrible for being grumpy sometimes and burnt out when she is incredible and takes no time for herself. I'm South African and had a holiday house in pearly beach and you actually get abalone on many parts of the coast along South Africa not just at site island. Also the reason why they swim to the location at night is not because they can't afford a boat it's because anti-poaching units will easily bust them if they go by boat. And one more thing they actually make a hell of a lot more money than you mentioned in your video hence why they choose to poach instead of get a normal job.

But yeah they are choosing to live in a township and poach instead of just “getting another job”. Do you think they can feed their families earning R4000 at shoprite? South Africans don’t seem to know they live in one of the most unequal countries in the world. If you have a holiday home you’re in the lucky 5%. Appreciate it

Yep and plenty of people down there are killed by sharks and because what they are doing is illegal they usually do not report those deaths, meaning there could be hundreds of deaths down there at shark Alley. That's basically proof right there that great white sharks can be a lot more dangerous than some of these people that swim with them say.

First story: Mohammad likely knew all that information about the Komodo Dragon and decided a *sugar apple* was worth the risk to go into their territory... My word! It is so painful to know that such people are allowed to roam around unsupervised. A freaking sugar apple!!!! Why?! Second story: I'm glad Jack was smart enough to back out and didn't try to act all tough. I also appreciate the fact that the older members of the group didn't tease him or egg him on to go through with it - though foolish to ignore the signs and go into Devil's Hole, they sound like they were good guys at heart. Sigh... Third story: Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I usually do not care about poachers, but in this case... those unfortunate, desperate Eluxolweni divers! T-T

Theres no drought wen 2/3 of the planet is water. If your community was dying from lack of water, they wld let you die. If it happened in the Elites nbrhood, they wld fix it. Water should not be a crisis for ANYONE. Not enuf people kno about Primary & Secondary water. Secondary water is rain runoff & snow melt runoff- germ filled water that needs to be chlorinated. Primary water is CLEAN HEALTHY PURIFIED Sea water that shows up ALL OVER the world, ready to drink. Niagara Falls, the river in Kauai & various other rivers & springs are examples of Primary water. some companies bottle it & sell it, even tho it comes out of the Earth for FREE. (ie Fiji bottled water, arrowhead water). The US people get "treated" chlorinated Secondary water to drink & use in our homes. Edit: there's more than enuf Primary water in the world to supply all drinking & farming needs. Also, some communities in Calif utilize water desalinization plants to make sure they never run out of water, most are not used, they are for back-up. However, Catalina Island, in Calif relies 100% on their plant to supply the Island with fresh drinking water. It costs them the same as regular water.

@@Userxyz-z2d The cost of removing the salt from sea water, in the quantities needed for global human consumption, would be prohibitive. The amount of fresh water is more than enough, it just isn't spread out evenly. Apart from salt, sea water isn't clean. This one has been grossly exaggerated. The great white shark is the least concern of any abalone hunter. Most die from being entangled in the kelp itself as abalone like to live at the bottom of kelp forests. So why in this story is the kelp a place of safety? Secondly they die from drowning due to rough waters and some manage to get to land after using up so much energy that they eventually die of a heart attack. Sharks have rarely killed the abalone hunters so this one is a bit annoying as this guy is usually pretty good with the stories he chooses. Also why swim 3km in rough water then when you get an emergency a poaching boat can be called to come??? (Just travel there and back on the boat) bullshit this one I'm afraid!!!)

Story suggestion: Hellyer house in San Jose, CA. This is the urban legend that has been told at Andrew Hill High School for so many years: An Asian family lived in the house at the corner of Hellyer Ave. and Senter Rd. The minor daughter gets pregnant and hangs herself in the garage to avoid the shame she has brought to her family….the haunting begins. Holy men were brought in to rid the home of her spirit. They would stay there and sleep in the home, only to awaken in the garage (where the hanging occurred). The house was eventually purchased by the city and remains uninhabited to this day. Large boulders are conspicuously placed in front of the driveway and security cameras throughout the property to prevent anyone from entering. I would love to know if any/all of this legend are true! Thank you Mr. Ballen

To add a minor correction and add another interesting fact, Komodo dragons don't have a lot of taste buds - they only have a few in their throat. They do have a Jacobson's organ, which is what dogs use to track and cats are using when they do that mouth partially open inhalation thing. They can sort of taste scents or smell tastes with it. So yeah, they're huge, they're fast, and they smell as well as dogs...and are possibly as prey oriented as cats. Nightmare fuel! Jacobson's organ is still something some primates have but is vestigial in humans. I've always thought it was really interesting - animals with it literally have a sixth sense! They also don't have scales they have sort of bone growths which are like chain mail, and have a light-sensing organ on the top of the head called a 'pineal eye' also known as a third eye or parietal eye - so a 7th sense! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vomeronasal_organ

@@angelachouinard4581 I just want to clarify that this "image" of 4000 miles that you are creating here is misleading. OBVIOUSLY I haven't been there myself lol, but its more likely connected caves and other underground lakes, possibly some connected only by small tunnels. Im sure theres a massive underground lake in the western US, then maybe there are others in canada and mexico that are connected through adjacent cave systems. Although I think it would be so cool if there was a 4000 mile open expanse of water under the continent
@angelachouinard4581
@angelachouinard4581 Жыл бұрын
@@mattlombardo4502 Yeah I do agree with you. I was focused on the distance simply because earthquakes so far on either side still rang the bell there. I think it's a diversity of connections, with maybe some larger reservoirs and different size channels, some really small, like cracks. And there may be dry passages than only fill sometimes. But even if it's only connected by channels the size of a straw and we could never travel it, the idea is just fascinating.

#2 is also known as a Delta P event. It's what happens when you have 2 bodies of water with different pressure. The more difference (also called delta) there is, the stronger the current (pressure). The scariest part is that you can't see or realize it happening until you're already in the "effective range" or you see debris getting sucked in. Most of the incidents that happen due to Delta P is when the person was already close enough to get sucked into it before realizing. There was an accident during a routine sluice gate maintenance dive in a dam, where a diver was put in the water to visually check one of the gates. The gate was supposed to be closed, but it wasn't and the result was the current from the Delta P event sucked him in and pinned him to a grate underwater until he drowned. The water from the top of the dam was flowing down to the bottom of the dam on the other side, causing that Delta P event. Another example is that scene in "The Final Destination" where a guy got trapped at the bottom of the pool and subsequently got disemboweled through the pool's drain at the bottom. While no pool made for swimming will have such a strong pump to generate such a strong Delta P, it is theoretically possible to die like this. You can also see a video of a crab getting sucked through a tiny slit in a pipe deep underwater. You can see just how sudden and strong that current takes effect.

We have a Komodo Dragon at our local zoo. It is in a deep pen enclosure with steep, sloped walls. You can only look down at it because of this, but it can also look up at you. I was there with my friend for his baby girl's 2nd birthday gathering. I did notice, and pointed it out to the girls' parents, that the beast was intently watching their daughter. It was extremely focused, and I had no doubt it wanted her as a snack. I've said it before in so many other videos like this, but I can't have any sympathy for people who see those Warning/Danger signs and go anyway. That boy who had the 'bad feeling' was the only semi-logical one. He and the other survivor learned a very hard lesson that day.

The idea of being even in the middle of the ocean and floating out in it (without a boat) is terrifying to me. The thought that an animal below can be anywhere near or far and I couldn’t know any better if I tried. It’s terrifying to me. Now the idea of being in a cave dive, 300 feet down in a place called DEVILS HOLE and getting SUCKED into a hole barely big enough to fit me ….. and getting sucked into an enormously sized cavern that is potentially connected to other water ways thousands of miles away?!? That’s legitimately the most terrifying thought my heart has heard in a while. The way you describe things is point blank perfect

I grew up in the, " Gateway to death valley, Ridgecrest California." I know of this area and cave and it's SO FREAKING SCARY! You can't go inside anymore but there is other ways. (Don't ask me I won't EVER lead anyone to their death). Anyone that's ever going out in the Mojave desert, please make sure you're prepared! Have tons and tons of water. Have a 4wheel drive vehicle and always, always, ALWAYS tell rescue groups where you're headed. Asking locals about where, " dead zones" For your phone are is also important. They absolutely will know. A very large population of people in that area dirt bike ride and have found hundreds apon hundreds of people that have passed on. The heat isn't like anything anyone has ever felt unless you grew up here. They say the body has " at least 3 days without water" out there.. This DOESN'T APPLY!!!! You have about 1 and a half days! Even locals that know the area, die out there. PLEASE save your life and let people know you're out there. The rescue groups WILL find you. Amazing groups of people. 100% of these people go out and rescue people on their own dime. They're called, " the tin benders." I know several people that have been rescued from these amazing people! Plllllease stay safe. This isn't an area to just be blahzay about!
