Then throw in EVERY aspect of fear... Isolation, unknown, paranoia, gore, unpredictability, darkness and monsters... You get one of the best horror movies of all time. I still think it's a underappreciated film even though it's appreciated.

Man I went on a rampage looking for it to watch free on streaming service because it's always on horror countdowns and I just watched hereditary and Ari Aster admitted taking influence from it so I figured it's time to watch it. Couldn't find it but watched Rosemary's baby instead which I liked and Ari also got influence from it too.

Imagine seeing this back in the 70s on opening day when you're only 12 years old. That was me. For years I could not watch it without covering my eyes. The soundtrack alone is terrifying.

i'm surprised you don't have people bashing you for liking the remake, honestly. but i love it also! it would have been way better if they'd been allowed to keep the practical effects and not redo it with occasionally mediocre cgi, but it still has a ton of grody body horror in that was great to watch.

I was excited to watch the movie since everyone was talking about it. However, it turned out to be absolutely terrible. The acting was BAD, and the writing was even worse! I wish I never wasted my time on it.

The Conjuring was not inspired by the investigation of the Amityville Horror. The Perron family was first and completely separate. The Warren's investigated the Amityville house years later. The Conjuring 2 refers to Amityville in the beginning.

When The Blair Witch first came out me and a couple of my friends went to see it in the theaters and that’s when it was supposed to have been real…..we were shaking so bad when we left!! Omg it was so horrifying, but to me what was more horrifying was the fact that at the time we were told it was real and I couldn’t stop thinking about the families of the “victims” and how they were ok with having everyone see what happened to them. It was so heartbreaking to see!!! Then the female actress was in a Steak-n-Shake commercial and I was like uhhhh wtf!!??

I love that "IT" isn't a traditionally scary horror movie, and that there weren't really any jump scares. The scares were mostly on the kids' own fears, and it could easily function as a simple coming of age story.

Halloween does it for me. It's the most realistic horror film I've ever seen. There's very little gore and it just plays on natural human fear.Also the scary ass music throughout the film is fantastic!😎👍👍

Would've been nice to see Night of the Living Dead on this list or as an honorable mention that movie was ahead of it's time for three reasons 1- The hero in the story was a black man 2- nobody had ever seen flesh eating zombies (because the zombies in horror films before 1968 were mostly just human beings who were under the control of a voodoo master) and 3- unlike most horror movies where everyone made it out of the haunted house or dark foreboding castle alive in this film nobody not even the hero made it out alive! (R.I.P. George A. Romero 🧟)

I love horror movies, for me 2 really stand out. 1. The original exorcist I saw when I was 10 yrs old horrified me. If I watch it now it just looks silly, but back in 1973 the effects were top notch, and terrifying. 2. The grudge, that movie freaked me out. The way she looked and the gurgling noise she made, also the way she contorted her body. I have trouble even watching that movie today 😮

The scariest horror movie that I've ever watched is The Haunting from 1963. It is absolutely terrifying with it's suspense and overall tension. The psychological terror that the main character goes through is nothing short of unnerving.

It's one of my favorite scary movies, like The Hills Have Eyes 2006 and Sinister 2012 and When A Stranger Calls 1979, so many scary moments, from the alarm clock, to the guy in the room with the hammer, to the only two windows of 1408 on the ledge, to the post office scene to his daughter dying in his arms and turning to ashes, so scary and so heartbreaking, Cusack should have gotten an Oscar for his performance.

Kinda surprised Child's Play (the first one), Scream, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Friday the 13th didn't make the list. I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist though, I actually fell asleep. I liked the book though. Did a book report on it in school.

For me the scariest part of “Paranormal Activity” was the three and a half hours that the woman stood at the edge of the bed watching her husband sleep. 😳😱

I can't imagine anything worse/greater than The Exorcist. I saw it in theaters when I was about 12 and it F'D me up😅. I took my then-fiance to see it when they re-released it around 2000. She was 30 at the time and had not seen it and frankly didn't know to much about it. It hit her the same way it hit me after all those years. I told myself then "that's why it will always be the scariest of all time. 😅😮

How is the original Black Christmas not on this list? I find the idea of a maniac killing everyone in my house while actually being in the house the whole time themselves much creepier than all this demonic/ghost horror. You know, things that could actually happen iIn real life.

"Where evil lurks" directed by Demian Rugna from Argentina is truly scary. You can also watch "Terrified" Both are excellent horror films.

Shinning is one of those movies I never understood what the hype was all about? I thought it was boring and it was far from scary, I guess I just don't get it nor do I want to...just didn't work for me.

Tim Curry's Pennywise > the new one and it's not even close. I have no idea what you're all talking about. I like the new movies but in no way is Skarsgard's performance scarier than Curry's.

Tim Curry is the actor you want for any villain. He was also good in Clue, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Hereditary is among one of THE greatest modern horror films of all time. It’s absolutely excruciating and soul crushing, yet truly amazing film. Hands down it’s one of the greatest for sure

They completely ignored the most terrifying horror movie ever JAWS unlike ghost movies and supernatural bs shark attacks are real and the way the movie exposes the audience to it is unmatched how many people have refused to go swimming since seeing it that movie engines fear unlike anything else REAL FEAR

Yeah, as someone with pretty severe claustrophobia, The Descent scares the shit out of me WAY before the monsters even show up. I can't even watch it, I get physically ill. Especially when the girl gets stuck and starts to panic. Also, Hereditary should be #1. That movie is so fucking uncomfortable and terrifying it actually gives people depression and phobias.

Some of my favorite horror flicks include "Carrie" (1976), Nightbreed, Dracula (1931), and The Silence of the Lambs. The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) was well done for its time.

Especially stories based on true events. The fact that something similar happened and a person can be that twisted. To actually do something so evil. Or the descent minue those creatures. Getting stuck in a tight place, getting lost or injured and no one knows where you at and no help.
