Terminator 2 also did a great job of solidifying respect for Sarah Connor. She was in the mental ward training to break out, then gets all the way to the elevator when Arnold steps out. Her worst nightmare realized, she runs back to the relative safety of her former captors. This showed she was both strong and smart, rather than weak. It was an oh crap entrance moment for Arnold but also a protagonist meets reality moment for Sarah. I absolutely love that moment in the film. It said so much.
