Yeah I’m a Singaporean, and once I went to Japan and saw an anime ad for a drink I think that featured Singapore I was excited I think the commercial was about a Japanese woman in Singapore who’s building something and can’t come back to Japan to visits her family, I think? It was two years ago. My memory’s rusty

@@nyancat.123 It's the difference between advertising a Happy Meal by showing a kid eating french fries in the sun, and advertising a Happy Meal by showing a smiling employee going out of their way to hand the meal directly to a kid, who smiles back. One makes you remember french fries, and one makes you want to go to McDonald's so your kid can get a Happy Meal.

This really highlights the difference between the approach Japan (and some other places) take with their commercials and where America goes with theirs. Even when it's the same business or product. Both approaches seem to work, but I think Japan does it better, since they're generally more engaging and easier to listen to. It's the difference between "There's a perfect job for you out there. Apply inside." and "We're hiring. Apply now."

Ex-Japanese salaryman here. OMG, I just realized that the CM#4 (Marukome Miso) is based on a profoundly sad situation. The father lives alone, away from family, in a company-owned apartment (Shatalin社宅), due to company assignment (often can stretch to years). The 2 daughters travel to him (but not the wife, probably has her work commitment as well to financially support the family), to feed him the ‘family taste’. They kinda screw up except the MRE-style miso soup (cannot go wrong). I’m amazed by the power of Japanese anime, they can turn almost anything into a heartwarming story😵‍💫 Now my wife tells me, “they’re probably devorced”… guess we’ve in the U.S. for too long😅 単身赴任やし嫁さん来んのに、美談にしてまう手腕に脱帽❗️
