Takes anti-Bryan notes... Funny thing is, most of the Bryans I've run into, beginner or otherwise, don't do most of these. In my case the most common mistake I see is, "when in doubt, SNAKE EDGE!" The weird thing is some of this advice is good for Tekken 3 Bryan as well. Particularly attempting a long range Mach Punch or Slash Kick. Yeah its satisfying when you get it, but when they duck you have this "Oh shit" moment and pay dearly. Yes despite knowing its not a good choice, I still do it out of habit, and habit is a lot harder to break, especially long standing habits.

Hey there, great video. Not a Bryan player but it was still interesting to see some of the flow charts and common tendencies Bryan players make. What I wanted to ask was what are your thoughts on a player changing characters to get out a certain rank? I play mostly Kazuya Mishima and some Asuka as well. I'm sure you have heard of this before, but i have problems playing him at Green/Light Blue rank level (not so much Asuka, only Kaz). I keep losing to players who are worse than me, and I'm certain that i must sound stupid when I'm saying this, but i am literally better than a lot of the people I lose to at my current rank. I can literally see the fundamental mistakes a lot of these players make, and when I focus and actually try, I beat them easily. My issue with this is that I have to put in so much extra effort to beat someone, who I know for a fact is a worse player than me, and who uses the most predictable flowcharts and moves with annoying crushing, just because of the character they are playing. I honestly 't don't care too much about online rank at all, and I mostly play the game because i really enjoy playing against a higher/similar skilled player and i believe that is when the game is the most fun and at it's best. Yes, I know I need to learn match-ups and play these players to get better at the game, but when you lose 3-2, or 3-1 to an Alisa or Noctis player for the 3rd time in a row with Kazuya, and as soon as I pick Paul, i get 3 perfects in a row, it's hard not to understand my frustration. So yeah let me know what you think about this. I know it's bad for my progression as a player, and once S4 comes out with better net-code (hopefully), I'll start taking ranked more seriously, but at the moment, there aren't too many online players in my region (Africa), and my locals are non-existent. Yeah i know this is long but if anyone read this far, let me know your thoughts, are my complaints valid, or am i just a complete scrub lol...
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Justin. You should not have to switch characters to get out of a certain rank. I've had players who got to Red ranks or Fujin for that matter, and then their computer got reset / rank got reset and they climbed back up with no problems. If you feel that you need to switch to another character to get our of a particular rank, then it's because you don't have a good handle on your character or the characters you are facing. Match ups are not everything at the beginner ranks, but they definitely can help out. However, I've known lots of players who made it out of the green and light blue ranks without having match-up knowledge. Just how they play their characters. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with switching to another character to try them out, but don't lose sight of who your main character is.

@peterYMao Hey man, big fan here. Wanter to ask you if you can do a breakdown of a specific move with Bryan that i happened to land a few times by mistake and cannot land it consistenly. Uf3 into qcb24, not at the wall, not as a followup, plain out in the field as a raw normal hit. I know that it seems impossible but I landed it by accident and cannot seem to understand how to nail it 100%.

numbers 5 and 4 i didn't even get to the point of doing it number 3, ok, i confess that i do use FF+2 a lot, not to close distance, more to catch a player trying to run to me. The move its pretty fast and has armor in 7, so i do think its a good trade option for number 2 and 1, jokes on you, i use snake edge. yes i know, its easier to parry, yes i know its minus on block. i did started to use hatched kick after some time pass the green ranks, but only for neutral situations, usually after a jab, trying to catch a counter hatched confirm

for okizeme i just go fishing for a counter hit down 3 plus 4,2..then i do my hatchet kick..or a sneaky one is sidestep 2,3...i whiff sidestep 2 on purpose..as the try to get up kick the whiff they get counter hit by the 3...and boom, more fishing
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 3 жыл бұрын
I would really stay away from sidestep 2,3. It's a very garbage move. There is only one option out of sidestep 2, and that's the low. Good players will almost always either low parry or block it.

i just sometimes use it as okizeme...if im far away..i run up and do sidestep 2,3...the oponenet cant low parry from grounded...and what happens most of the time is i get a whiff on 2,but counter hit the 3...giving me an almost guaranteed down 3,2 folowup...i know there are many safer and better okizeme options..but im just a noob right now..cant do taunt very consistently..also socker kick and hatchet kick whiff alot on grounded people...what do you think is the best easy consistent option for oki?

Do have to mention, soccer kick on FDFT/FUFT is still pretty reliable if you get into the habit of stepping to whichever side you're already off axis towards. I don't think I've had it whiff in ages ever since I started doing that. Edit: Made a video about it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6qml8-E38-no2g.html

I'm guilty of two of these, with hatchet kick, its a tool you should only use with a read when the opponent in on the ground. Id say use d,f+2 or if you space it right, b+1 for people who get up fast. You have to fight for EVERY little thing with Bryan, don't make it harder than it needs to be lol

You're not alone. That string will cause you more trouble than it's worth later on. It's only really used as a long range check or as a whiff punisher. I seldom use it, or rather use it as a mind game.

my top 5 bad habits to not do for people learning bryan is 1. Stop using snake edge as your get out of jail free card 2. Stop using orbitals like a hopkick, they are used differently 3. Don't waste all your time in practice to land your Taunt Jet Upper so you can post it on Tekken Reddit, when you can't even block and launch punish a snake edge 4. Use db4 more instead of D4 5. Practice fundamentals MORE than combos or TJU because in order to be a good Bryan player, it's not the high damage, high execution combos, or even taunt game(although later on it's in your best interest to be proficient it if you want to be around TGP ranks), you need good defense, good movement, good whiff punishment, and good block punishment to win instead of relying on hopkicks or panic moves when pressured

Wow, turns out I don't have the most of that habits (the last one is inescapable, hatched kick sound is too addictive). Unfortunately, it doesn't mean that I don't have bad habits at all. For example, I overuse and misuse ff4 in some situations, cause I think about it as a tracking move in the first place, but in reality it's a HIGH move with slooow recovery, and only then it's tracking. Sometimes it leads to the awkward situations like "I'M GONNA CHALLENGE HIM TO RESPECT MAH PRESSURE, TAKE DAT B1 INTO DF2 OR INTO FF4, BOIII" But if he ducks on that the worst thing that could happen to him is df2 for 12-14dmg and -5, but if I did the ff4 and he ducked = I am dead. Always calculate your risks, guys (and use 1+2 ffs!). Oh, and the worst flowchart I have somewhere in the back of my brain is "pressure" with ff2 into ff4. No comments, I just do that hilarious shit when I panic, lol. And Peter, I have a question: why not to use the d2 in our plus frames? It's superior option in my opinion. It catches sidesteps pretty consistently, only few chars could step that. It deals the solid chunk of damage and gives you the crazy +8 on hit! Oh, and yeah, it's hit confirmable on CH (for KND or wallsplat) and perfectly safe. I don't mean that it's the only correct option in that case, but, IMO, it can be used more frequently than 1+2 (if you don't fight zafina or lili). And thanks for another great video, can't wait to see more.
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 3 жыл бұрын
Depending on how plus you are d+2 will / won't track. After b+1 or hatchet kick d+2 will track to Bryan's weak side. That is so say if an opponent does SSR and you do d+2, the d+2 will hit them. However, if they do SSL, the d+2 will whiff and they can SS launch you. This instills a mind game. Another thing to keep in mind is this differs based on the opponent. Some character with amazing SS or Sidewalks can get around it.
@fatman9183

Thanks for reminding me not to do those things. Ff2 and ff4 have cost me a game too many times. I now mostly use it as get the fug away from me buttons. Ff4 for SS reads of course

I wouldn't way df2 after plus frames is a mistake. I'd say autopiloting to df2 or any move repeatedly after plus frames would make you an easy read. For ex. 1. Mach kick (expecting your opponent to step) he can duck launch u on read. 2. F3 can be stepped. 3. Hatchet can be interrupted. Doing anything repeatedly can be downside to your play as bryan.
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 3 жыл бұрын
Of course autopiloting anything is bad, but I wanted to point a something that I see quite a bit. Players tend to just do this, and I wanted to bring it to player's attention that they are just doing this. Regardless, you're right in the points you make. Thanks for the comment Ryan :)

Perhaps it's intentional due to the proportion of bryan's limbs. Look at shaheen or devil jin's b4. They're essentially the same type of move, but their legs are slightly longer than bryan's. That being said, it does seemed off sometimes, especially on big-bodied chars.
@JKczolg
@JKczolg 3 жыл бұрын
@@fxlja + having more complicated and slower input. I dont thing it's that cuz somettimes it misses when the oppoents just lays there and preses nothing, you do your combo he doesnt press any buttons on the ground (lies feet to you) i run to him and when i start the animation my bryan literally pushes his character on the ground a bit (cuz collisions) and the attack still misses even tho i cant be closer to him

@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 3 жыл бұрын
I can see how you feel about that. However, I did not want to add optimizing combos since, if this was a beginner Bryan player say a teal rank player watching this. I wanted them to be able to take away something that wasn't "based on execution."
