though I had some problem with sea water It also kzfaq.infoUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

What would someone suggest to use if my focus was on detecting large steel objects like underground storage tanks? A large target, but deep - up to say 8 feet.

I have owned every technology since my 1st detector in 1973. My CTX-3030 was the most frustrating machine I've ever owned. The dots on the screen and numbers were constantly bouncing all over the place. The GPS never worked; program would never update either. Dealer says call minelab. Minelab says call dealer. Finally just got rid of it at a big loss. Shame on Minelab! I also bought a GPZ-7000 and Gold Monster 1000, both brand new. Love both of them and no problems. They should send me a 6000 or 800 for my 3+ years of total frustration with the 3030.

I have 1000s of hours on the CTX as do many people I know. It is a complicated machine compared to many others. Those "dots" on the screen mean something and how you have the machine setup has a lot to do with how well it runs on any given site. Should have read Andy Sabisch's CTX Handbook because I have hunch you didn't know how to run the CTX because if you did you would know what those "dots" are. Did you have target trace & target trace pinpoint on? How about sizing? Where did these "dots" fall on the Fe-Co scale on your screen? You also bought 2 dedicated gold machines in the 7000 & Gold Monster. Apples to oranges

I've metal detected for years in Oregon. found several silver rings and bracelets. there's way too many detecting clubs here. you'll find coins 8 inches deep that are only 10 years old, and pennies under evergreens rot from the acidic trees. it's picked over pretty good here. the east coast is a totally different story, wheat pennies in good shape and it's not been hunted to death. Be careful with your headphones on the transients will try to rob you for your detector, I've had a few close calls.
