I have the ASUS RT, The Dual band doesn't really work with IoT so I had to have a dedicated 2.4 which constantly drops and I have to reset the router. Does anyone else have this issue?

my only question is how exactly does the wifi work? do you start up a subscription based plan with the company of said router? for instance if i get the asus router do i set up a plan with them or is the router its own separate thing?

You buy an internet/wifi plan with any company that offers it in your area. Then they give you a router but you can/should buy your own to improve the service and many headaches. So yes the router is its own thing.

So there are two pieces of equipment involved with your internet. The modem: this is what attaches to what is coming inside thru the wall. Usually this is supplied by the internet service you setup. Router: this takes the signal from modem. This is the square cable that looks like a large phone jack plug. The router has antennas usually and will provide the wireless portion of internet. It usually also has physical ports to plug a hard line to a device. A lot of the time both modem and router are put into one device from the provider. They then charge you a monthly service fee for renting their equipment. You can dodge this by owning your own, and also getting better performance.

The modem is responsible for sending and receiving signals from the ISP, while the router disperses the signal to devices on the network. Noob here I’m a no life gamer or sweat I usually run lan but my router is too far for lan. I just have the factory router from my provider idk my speeds but my question is. Can I buy a better router n see gains n consistency in my WiFi speed. Home is 3 bedroom modest size single lvl home. I have 2 phones a computer n ps5 I run constantly because of the lack of reception in my home
