Good choice to put Seven Years in Tibet on the list. Favorite film of mine. But where is K2 with Michael Biehn and Matt Craven? That should have made the list.

K2 is my favorite film, climbers who think it isn't plausible haven't thought through that to get down from height on K2 you simply have to fall ... with skill. It such a great story and Michael Beihn is superb in it.

yeah it's a documentary though, like The Killer Summit/Fatal Altitude and Free Solo, I actually like the docs better although K2 and Everest were pretty good at capturing a different aspect

It’s difficult to pick just five but “K2” has to be on any best-of list of climbing movies (or any movie genre for that matter).

Everest and Vertical Limit for sure…but I would round out the list with Touching the Void, K2, and Into Thin Air (same story as Everest). Cliffhanger would be an honorable mention.

All 5 of the films are either factual narratives of real events or based largely on real events. Vertical Limit, K2, and Cliffhanger have spectacular mountaineering scenes but are all fictional. I need to watch Everest to see how it compares with Into Thin Air which I saw a few years ago.

I agree, it's a great movie, but not much of it is actually true. The movie has been focused on Brad Pitt's character, Heinrich Harrer. They wanted to focus only on Pitt and got rid of Peter Aufschnaiter whom they married off. Peter accomplished a great deal whilst in Tibet and also knew the Dalia Lama. There were actually four of the climbers who made it to Tibet. The other two just made other plans instead. It really irritated me at the beginning when Pitt is handed the Nazi flag and pretends to dislike it. Heinrich Harrer always claimed that he was never a Nazi. His memberships to both the SS and Nazi Party were discovered in 1996. Even though he was out of the country and didn't participate in WWII, he didn't have to lie about it and all the other claims he made in his book 'Seven Year's in Tibet' that weren't true. The war was over when they arrived, another falsehood. It's when you know these true stories, it's hard to like movies full of lies, as good as they are, just to showcase one actor.

Vertical limit was a class movie and the avalanches is a routine in those mountains , few years back it engulfed a full unit of Pakistan army in gayari sector and their bodies were never recovered even after months long excavation. I think it was best movie you should add it to the list

I dont give Vertical Limit much rating because it is totally not how K2 is... Plus the jumps at 7000 mtr altitudes... Thats indigestable and where is the jump in real K2 anyways??

As much as I love 'Seven Years in Tibet,' it's not really a climbing film. I'd have put either K2 or Vertical Limit in its place.

K2 isn't even on here...is 7 Years even a climbing movie? the eiger sanction is pretty good too, I mean clint eastwood actually did a nice climb in monument valley and a climber died while filming on the eiger

It's so hard to whittle these down to only five. I'm just thrilled at No.1 being Nordwand (North Face). I just watched it yet again, which is how I found this list. Seven Years in Tibet is full of lies made up by Heinrich Harrer. It's a nice movie to watch but nowhere near being true to the actual events throughout. Everest is another favourite amongst many others.🇦🇺

I think instead of 127 hours the best choice could have been K2 the Ultimate high... North Face is no doubt the best of them all apart from Everest... Third Man on the Mountain 1957 is a brilliant film on Matterhorn first climb.... Vertical limit can be mentioned but has too many flaws... It is indigestable and very inaccurate
