Now my tip for you is, when you want to say something to your allies you just press ctrl + enter, and you will open the allied chat box, no matter if you were using whisper or party chat right before. I saw you on another video having a hard time while talking to your friend on the other party, so just wanted to share this useful command I learned quite late in the game as well.

you don't need to draw the full length of telekinesis for the full effect, setting it to quick cast and only clicking will push in the direction you are facing ego w click behind you and press a for instant combo on heroes behind you.

You said the only downside of attack moving is inaccuracy, but in game settings, there is a setting that will make it attack closest to your cursor instead of your character. I think this is the optimal setup

When you face an alt+zombie wall naz then you face a decent naz, only thing i can say is use it without ANY type of slow, varian E for ex, if you cast wall with E slow from varian, you will get caught. Is always good to know when is better, like a repulsion zone from zarya against diablo, if you use it after he charge in, he get isolated and can be easier to engage a fight, i saw it at a grubby vid and used it yestarday with great results

Pro tip man, love that move. Time it right, and youll catch people really off guard, like kerrigan as she leaps, or greymane. Pretty hilarious when you pull off a good wall. It allows you to use you mouse to path, and nail the timing of the wall better.
@InsanePorcupine
@InsanePorcupine 7 жыл бұрын
True you could aim it differently, but if you know varians range and can predict the dive timing you can alt wall sooner in his dive allowing you to move forward more, then make sure and stop right at the edge of the wall to body block him into it. A lot of this stuff is so situational though it's impossible to properly describe with text.

On the tip of stutter stepping, you can also set it so that you will target what is closest to your character or what is closest to your mouse click. This makes targeting heroes a bit easierand may help some people.

shift commands are fun, but I don't use them much in teamfights tbh. I use them for pathing in the map say go the safe long way without having to constantly watch my player or jump the map around. I rather enjoy on malf using the shift + Q + D to instantly give health, and mana faster than I could ever hope to do it manually. Probably there's other heroes, that have great little things like that, but I don't play them. Think I just thought of one too on a hero I don't play. ETC when you are mid powerslide hold shift, and hit R. :D

1) there is one more way to stutter step : right click to move + 's' to stop, then right click again to move 2) casting at yuor feet area denial abilities is very useful to escape (e.g. casting Chromie's time trap right at your feet as you move away from chasing enemy) 3) don't grab biscuits from the toilet, that's very bad advice!

Hey Nubkeks...thank you so very much for this! I had the default click settings on, and I'll admit I thought it would be too difficult to switch to quick cast. Because of your insistence in this video, though, I gave it a try with "on release" as a baby step. I found it so much easier than the default click setting and even turned off "on release" within a few games. It made me a much better Kerrigan and Li Ming (my two fav characters to play). You also gave the best explanation for stutter stepping I've seen. Thanks again!

There's a small inaccuracy in the video when you talk about attack move: if you attack move with your cursor directly on a target you will shoot at that target specifically, just like you would with a right click. It's not necessary to use right click if you want to specifically target a hero as far as I know.
@johnnyrambo22

Let's see: We have a situation where you can't use A-move because of a minion wave between you and your target. You then A) Switch to right clicking directly your target. Missing makes you walk at them harmlessly. B) Keep A-moving but only directly on your target. Missing makes you attack the first obstacle between you. If you are going to die from moving at them, I say that keep A-moving but directly on them. The only situation where B is worse is when you absolutely can't afford to miss a slow attackspeed hit (Arthas trait?).

Zebina is it? you have the same exact chance to misclick, but with a move at least you don't risk death

I get the logic, but sometimes I feel like it's easier to aim right click on the mouse vs an "A" move, but maybe I'll give that a go and see how it works.

Bind "A-move and click" to left click. That's what I did
@HeroRaze
@HeroRaze 6 жыл бұрын
Pro tip: since the only thing you use left click for on the map is casting abilities if you don't have quick cast (which should at least be on release if not full quick cast), bind mouse1 to the attack move and right click to "force move": this means right clicking on someone DOES NOT make you attack them. Left click for attack, right click for movement. Once you get used to it, it becomes a lot easier. Then, if you turn on the proximity-based attack command setting, your intended target just needs to be the closest enemy to your mouse when you left click. These all combine into making mistakes much less, especially when stutter-stepping.
@Wrendojin
@Wrendojin 7 жыл бұрын
Azmo is my fav character and i always tell people about alt+R if i see them manually self cast (which obviously you covered). my only other tip would be quick cast Tracer's blink and when you play her or lucio click a hero you want to focus fire on and then right click the floor where you want to go and hold it down. the character will fluidly follow your mouse cursor without having to rapidly click and/or accidentally clicking a new target.
@lionl81
@lionl81 7 жыл бұрын
About Stutter Stepping - To hit the target you want (as a ranged hero, for example) you can also "A" click (attack move) and have your mouse on the target - similar to right-clicking on the target. Not only right clicking allows you to select a specific target.

Another good use of Shift to queue actions is to take the "safe" path across the map. For example, say you want to go from top shrine to bottom shrine on Dragon Shire. If you just right-click the bottom shrine, you'll take the shortest path through the middle of the map, and you might get ganked in the bushes. To take a longer, safer path, you could Shift-right-click on your team's side of the map, first near your top fort, then your bottom fort, then the bottom shrine.

If you're a beginner to MOBA style games, default casting or quick-cast on release is better for learning and developing muscle memory because it actually shows you the AOE/range of many abilities after clicking, and gives you a visual indicator. This is important for skill shots in particular that requires you to be much more accurate and precise.

What are your favorite hero specific uses for Shift? Also favorite self cast? My favorite Shift usage is with Chen Q+R to isolate someone with barrel and with Diablo any combination of Q and E. My favorite self cast is Alarak's self telekinesis. I guess this is essential for Alaraks but not obvious for new Alarak players.

I can't stress the usefulness of the shift queue command's importance. It seems minimal, but the amount of time you save by mounting INSTANTLY after channeling an objective or collecting a well makes a large impact on a game. Sometimes it means you're into a fight one auto-attack sooner which could ultimately decide if a teammate lives or dies. There's nothing worse than watching a player attempt to mount or go to collect a well and end up cancelling the command just BARELY too early only to watch them waste 4 seconds doing it yet again. It's also nice to queue movement commands on the map, so instead of clicking next to your character, you can queue a couple of movement commands in the jungle to make your way back WITHOUT accidentally walking behind enemy towers while you're distracted. ALSO...Shift+Hearth is another nice example. Sometimes you want to hearth right away after an objective, or if you shift+hearth while doing a camp your player will hearth instantly as the camp is collected. You would also be surprised how much time is wasted when players aren't taking the fastest path to a location because they spam click in front of them. Outside of dodging skillshots, a perfectly straight line is the fastest escape. It's also the fastest route to a healing fountain or objective. Being able to queue these as you mount or perform other actions is part of what separates good players from great ones.

Diablo's E + Q can be queued. Falstad Z + R (Gust), Kerrigan (W + E, rarely useful, you should manually do this), Artanis (W + Q, same as Kerrigan). Using shift is super necessary on Diablo, the others here are pretty useful, but not mandatory.

I like the video. It was a bit messy with Malfurion and Arthas at the beginning: you could've explained everything with the target dummy, but I think it's ok. A couple of suggestions for upcoming videos, in case you are running short of ideas: (1) explain how to choose the right talents during the game according to the situation at hand. I get so frustrated when my random teammates are using cookie-cutter builds and forget about what the team and map requires (would I ever see some support other than me taking cleanse in QM? And don't get me started with Triple Shot...). (2) do in-depth explanations on strategies for each particular map: relevance of the objectives, the pushing, the timings of the camps, and so on; which heroes are favored and which ones aren't and why; how could a team make a comeback and how can the other team prevent that from happening; etc.

You can also use attack-move and click on the enemy. So you don't get punished for missclickimg and nearly every autoattack will hit the enemy you want. I don't know why nobody uses this and why all the videos about stutterstepping doesn't explain this way of doing it...

Nowadays there *ARE* 2 options for attack button. You can choose between attacking what is closest to your hero or what is closest to the cursor. The second option most of time if you don't click too far away can work as the first option as well plus you have the benefit of choosing what to attack when needed without the need to be 100% precise on hitbox.
@nikiforossarantoglou5917
@nikiforossarantoglou5917 6 жыл бұрын
If you choose the option to make the attack button attack the closest enemy to where you click, you can click outside the hitbox of the minion and still attack it. I am not sure what you are refering to. If you are talking about attacking by mouse clicking, I am not talking about that - I'm saying about the attack button.

Self casting your root as malf is often super useful, because it allows you to easily run away and poop out a root without having to bring your mouse back to you character and potentially misclick a move command. Soemtimes when I'm in a tense teamfight I stop cspamming move commands, and just hold right click to path to avoid clicking on a minion wall or whatever, when the battleground is busy. ALT + E on malf is great with this. This isn't always the best placement though so don't use it as a crutch, but vs illidan or chen or a number of dive heroes it's just to easy, and effective not to do.

I got to from low Gold to Diamond with only stutter step (only from these tips i mean), so I would say that's the most important. The others are optional. Although if you know the hero you main 100%, then quick cast would be useful like 20% of the time i.e. Artanis Q+E combo would definitely be faster without the two mouse clicks BUT it would rarely leap any major benefits.

I've been wondering for a while how to ping the skill bars and stuff. I knew you could ping other stuff with G already but kept putting off looking up the other. Didn't know about the quick cast skills thing either. Knew about the rest. Cool video.

Queuing up moves with shift is critical for playing the vikings I find. Tell erik to run in for a globe then return to your tower give you lots of time to babysit the other 2.

Theres an option I'm having a very hard time finding but I used to have it. I'm not sure what it's called either, but it is when you target an aoe ability (say Jaina's blizzard) outside of its max range circle. It used to be that if I clicked outside of the max range, Jaina will immediately cast Blizzard at max range, but now she'll run toward the area I clicked till she's in range and then cast Blizzard. This is a big deal for me because I just want clicking outside the range bubble to mean that I want a max range blizzard immediately in that direction.

It was present as a form of smartcast in other mobas, but I don't think it's available in hots. Iirc in some recent patch they changed the behaviour of some leftover spell that still allowed to do that.

very good video. i use nearly all of them (exapt Attackmove with some heroes ^^) btw did you know that there are camerapositionbuttons like in warcraft and starcraft? using ctrl+F5-F8 and ctrl+shift+F5-F8 you can save the actuall camera position and with F5-F8 or shift F5-F8 you can switch to that position (so there are 8 camera poition you can save) have fun with it

Ive found this video incredibly useful, helpful and humorous. Thank you! Thinking outloud about my experience with it so far, not sure whats optimal for me as a constant left click right clicker to keep moving around and selecting when I need? I had used these for a time then ran into issues with selection and saw some remarks about having to make a hero quick cast, not sure what I was missing so I'm going back to trying to keybind auto attack, quick cast, select, and move all on my mouse but I only have 3 buttons on my mouse, until i get a gaming mouse. maybe select could be spacebar? I have been trying to find someone who's posted visual quick cast settings for hero and attack movement management and currently this is one of the best being a video. Anyone have more visuals to point me to? granted I think the point of you illustrating using ctrl+# of talent would bypass my need to select those in game...but Iknow there was some other reason I needed to go back to normal settings.

I use quick cast on my movement abilities (valla vault, falstad barrel roll, tracer q, etc) and point and click abilities (healing abilities, etc) but use normal setting on all my skill shots abilities.

Tip1. I feel like default casting is best for me, I aim better, lucky for me I got monster apm thanks to SC II, so I don't feel like I am at a disadvantage. Tip2. Stutter stepping in extremely useful, I don't even loose accuracy unless I'm fighting a summoner like Naz, Zag slag, or whoever. This is a huge advantage. However sometimes I find defensive situations where just standing still and auto attacking works better, granted you will need a self sustain, an escape , or cc to pull it off, and this trick only really works in very specific times tho. Tip3. Explain it better please, you should have said the control 1 is starting from the top to the bottom, Took me a lil bit to figure it out. This is awesome, I didn't even know you could do that. This like Tip 2, this is very useful. Tip4. The alt pings, are very useful, Before they had indicators at the top showing your teams ult cooldown timers, and voice chat, this was what good teams used to communicate. Tip5. The shift command, never helped me on HoTs... but in SC II, this is something you should get down. On the checking talents, there is another way, manually get to the fountain, tap tab, instantly see all talent, and continue game... the only way to do this, is to know EVERY single talent, and to have a photogenic memory, but learning all talents even for people you dont like or play, is useful for countering in your talent tier if possible. for example, if uther is using the talent that gives him 200% faster cool downs every time hes stunned, it helps to avoid stunning him. This however was very informative, great video.

Great video. You didn't mention the new addition with 2.0, that lets you hover targets to stutter step. I'd love for you to cover this topic in-depth. Pros and cons of using hover vs click, etc. Maybe with some examples.

i got a litltle tip for the studderstepping. if u press S (stop) ur hero will stop whatever its doing. If u have auto attack enabled (i believe it is enabled by default) ur hero will start auto attacking. Then instead of having to click(move) A+click(attack-move) u can just click(move) S (stop up and attack) and repeat. i find this much easier and this will hopefully also help u guys.

i don't use this so i might be incorrect but i remember reading that there is actually a downside to this technique (although i agree i'd prefer it to a+click myself). you could also just set 'a' to quickcast :)
@fiorilli1
@fiorilli1 7 жыл бұрын
i think that downside about that was when you used it and cant target someone you dont attack at all, when if you use attack button you always position to attack something or move, without doing dps. And also, with melee assassins is better to use attack button than stop, you get caught easily. Maybe i could be wrong, but was something like that

You do attack unless you spam stop AFAIK but you wont walk towards people like an A move so it could be useful with not overextending, I don't use it though (>>>full yolo right here

You forgot that there is an option for changing attack move to target the target nearest your attack move target instead of nearest your hero. That allows you to use attack move to more reliably attack a specific target (still not 100% ofc) as a ranged character. Sadly I knew all these, or happily I suppose? ^^

Ugh I have watched so many tutorials on stutter stepping and for some reason, even with all the practice, I still cant get it down. It really frustrates me because I get so many other mechanics, but this one is holding me back. Also quickcast is annoying but I have not practiced it either and with it off, your explanation really helps me understand why I miss seemingly easy skill shots more often then I should. Great video as always I would love to see more videos like this! In fact, it would be great to see role tutorials from you. I am decent with assassins pretty good with support but really good woth certain specialists. I suck with warrior and I just started hero league, and while Im lower level still doing placements, I dont want to screw up myself and my team from shitty warrior play. So if possible I would love to see tutorials or tips and tricks for the different roles I think your analysis on that would definitely help players such as I. Thanks!

My better hero to learn stutter stepping is lunara, her jumps are great to get used to, also naz is a good option. When you are more into, valla,zuljin, tychus with his trait and raynor with quest and W activated, if you can manage that attack speed, then you can consider stutter stepping mastered. For warrior, body block is crucial, not attacking but body blocking give more kills that you can imagine, and also manage your CC ability, not always jump and Q with Mura, is better to always make difficult to read that you have your CC on cooldown or not. With those things and protect your team, is more than enough, about protect i mean stop enemy diving your backline, if they dive they have to feel you would let them out of position. You manage your team position, your job is keep it as strong as it could be.

I knew some of these, but wow a lot of them are new to me as well. Thank you so much for this! That said is there a reason to use attack move instead of Stop (S) to stutter step? That also makes your hero attack the nearest target and requires one less input since you don't need to click the mouse again for an attack move command. Am I missing something?

I'm diamond and I'm using everyone of those except talents picking. also in my opinion best use 10:30 of self cast is Alarak W (he casts it on maximum range to push himself direction he is facing) also I got negative habit overusing self cast, I almost don't use Auriel heal correctly coz almost every time I use it is with selfcast.

Shift has some weird and inconsistent behavior though. Just made a video to demonstrate it and put it on the forums. But maybe any of you guys have something to say about this. So the thing is that when you queue up commands and your character automatically starts attacking something before you finish the queue, the autoattacking becomes a part of that queue and doesn't proceed to the next command before your automatically acquired target is dead. I think the automatic actions should be skipped when you are holding Shift and giving commands. For example this may mess up your Diablo Q+E+Q combo if if Diablo starts attacking something befor you finish the queue. There is an other weird behavior. Queuing up the same ability back to back, fails most of the time. But if you put some filler ability/command between it always works out. That seems like an arbitrary restriction and I feel like it shouldn't be like that. I made a video where I demonstrate it with Kerrigan's Q. On rare occasions it works when you just do Shift: Q+Q+Q...
@Lukimuki101
@Lukimuki101 7 жыл бұрын
the first one is normal an action with shift is always after your last actions and if this action was an AA it AAs the camp minion or structures to the death quite useful sometimes. For Diablo dont hold Shift for the first Q and it works. Kerrigan tho on another level because her Q reset is sometimes slower and disable the rest of the queue it works every time if you just make one step but its anoying.
