So, question. Who's which member of the gatewatch? Based on personality, not decklist

@@bobthegamingtaco6073 I don't think they all line up terribly well with gatewatch members specifically, but were I to give it a shot: Serge would be Gids, the nicest person you're likely to meet, Alex is Chandra, veering between the Depression and GET 'EM aesthetics, Jer is Jace for obvious reasons, and Wheeler really doesn't have a good parallel but if I can stretch the inclusions I'd say Ral, emanating Large Bi Energy and completely willing to ask "what if" without any regard for "why."

My take is this! Serge is Hiroshi Tanahashi. The beloved veteran (of the podcast). Always a baby-face, but when pushed can pull out some dirty tricks. Wheeler is Okada. Came in as a cocky heel, turned to a beloved face. A longstanding feud with Tanahashi (Serge) and he often wins. Alex is Naito. Have a really big fanbase, but turns from heel to face with the wind. Good at crazy offence. Jeremy if Randy Orton. Even when he is a face everyone wants him to turn heel. Really good at what he does, and can strike OUTTA NOWHERE!!!

To make comparisons to current New Japan stars: Jer is switchblade jay white, the plotting and scheming mastermind, who exists to thwart the others, serge is Kota Ibushi, a wholesome boy who everyone loves, but has a dark side that comes out sometimes, the eternal underdog. Alex is Jon Moxley, the rebellious, dangerous, lone wolf who only looks out for himself. Wheeler is Tetsuya Naito, the bad boy who’s a fan favourite, ingenious, strange and has a weirdly likeable cockiness and charisma.

It’s hard enough breaking into eternal formats. I personally love Tomik, Oketra and Parhellion II.

It's so good. I play it in my simic counters-matter commander deck and having a repeatable effect that's a mix between a beefy single target humility effect or beast-withining your own artifacts/smaller creatures (which he makes himself) is just ridiculous. He makes me want to switch the headliners to Pir and Toothy because it's all the more backbreaking when he comes down with 5 and his upticks are +3 and +2 respectively.

(Can't speak for others, but...) I enjoy the flexibility of adventures, removing the feel-bads of drawing the wrong card at the wrong time. There's a saying that there's no such thing as the wrong threat, and while you may not always need a bounce or kill spell, you always have the option of a reasonably priced threat. These cards aren't perfect however, as they also contribute somewhat to homogenizing deck building, as any red deck not playing Bonecrusher Giant (and U w/o Brazen Borrower, B w/o Rider, etc) is doing itself a disservice. Importantly though, they aren't contributing to the two largest criticisms of certain 2019 cards: - They prevent your opponent from taking simple play patterns. This isn't exclusive to the static ability of WAR walkers like Narset or Teferi either, with cards like Oko and W6 both invalidating play patterns integral to the game; Developing your mana, and developing your board. - They snowball too quickly. Canlander is a format w/ fast mana a plenty, and given the massive loyaty and resilience of a lot of these problem cards, getting them out as early as T2 (or god forbid T1 via moxen) can lead to a LOT of "non-magic" with the only available avenue being to fight on an entirely different axis (Storm, RDW, etc). - They homogenize deck building and deck selection. When you have options as powerful as some of the cards we mentioned, why do anything else? Adventure cards are certainly powerful enough to earn the status of archetype/format staple, but rarely do they pull decks into splashing them or so aggressively warp deck building decisions around dealing with them, because at the end of the day they're just really efficient flexible spells.

Pretty sure it's spellseeker from battlebond? The points list is largely enablers rather than the payoffs so it's mostly fast mana and tutors which they don't print much these days

They broke mostly fair cards so non of them got pointed

@@Mordalon Nah. That's more like Swamp Thing. Werebear has a Bruce Banner phase (when it enters play as a 1/1), before later becoming the 4/4 after 7 cards enter the graveyard.

@@CountZeroOr Mechanically, but the Aberration was a normal elf that was literally mutated by the Mirari's radiation, just as Bruce Banner was mutated by radiation.

@@Mordalon True - but now that I think about it, considering that after mutation the Aberration is always like that, there is a perfect counterpart from the Hulk comics - The Abomination, as the Abomination can't go back to normal.

Jace isn't even good. Most oko decks don't play Jace and modern wasn't shaken when he was unbanned on the other hand the most played modern card is oko.
