As a 24 year old tech. Glad there is guys like you, Nestor, flat rate master.. just to name a few. To Guide us younger guys to not make some common mistakes. Bought a snap on 32 inch cart used for 600 bucks, and a USG 56 on sale for 525 bucks couple weeks ago with a special deal from a credit card. I buy used snap on tools, but a lot of lisle, sunex, gear wrench, Milwaukee. I don’t owe a penny to any credit card or tool truck, and I’m grateful for that. So thanks to you guys !

I feel like I’m lucky this day in age because yes I buy a lot of tools from harbor freight but it’s not all cheap crap like it was when you were starting out Justin. Congratulations on 30k and this video has helped me realize a lot!

Good honest advice and love the storytelling feel like I'm there. I also worked at Sears Auto way back when as a tire salesman/service writer. Here in the Northeast U.S. there was literally a line out the door for Diehard batteries for hours at a time, during many cold winter days. Hard to believe a couple of decades later they were on their way out of business.

Thanks for sharing, Justin. The one thing we all have in common is we all make mistakes. Those who are willing to admit them and share them, will always be better off. Don't get into debt is the best advice for everyone no matter how much money you make or can make. Being a slave to debt is not freedom. Enjoying the hard work and freedom from debt, is far better than any new shiny ........

My biggest mistake was never pursuing it. Im almost 40 now and gonna be out of my job in July when the company i work for (work in manufacturing)will be closing. I wish I would of known that 8 years ago I could have possibly started the trade. I want to do something different then factory/manufacturing work. Thanks for the video I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Thanks for not failing to mention the upside of debt. We're always warned with horror stories of the negative side of someone carrying too much debt, but if utilized properly, debt can actually become an asset.

Great pep talk. I got it “be the wolf”. I get tools by ensuring to keep the wife’s car in top shape and when I find tools on fleabay at a bargain price. She gets more excited about the deal than the tool. So we both win! happy wife, happy life!

God I hate those snap ring style craftsman ratchets and busting my knuckles. My biggest mistake is not getting another degree while I was in community college. My college was actually free because Tennessee pass a community college financial help which makes it free. I wish I went for IT or welding cause I’m good at both of that. Welding I could still do, but I want to work out on my own and not for a company. I’m pretty happy work for a air gas company being a cryogenic tech working on oxygen bulk tanks and big vaporizers. I use to work at a Honda dealership and quit that shit well because of the flat rate system what else right.🤣 And ever since I quit I’ve been less stress out and more happier.

1st point hit home for me I did the uti/wyotech thing when I was 23 and I halfway regret it im still paying that loan off, the recession didn't help me much also.i would have done the community College route if I knew better. It is what it is though. Tool cost has always been 50/50 for me snap on if I could afford it in cash only or craftsman to get by. Live,Learn, Adapt, survive

I thought you retired from the military??!! Yea when I retired from the military and used my GI Bill it was a lot easier cause I got my retirement pay and my va disability, so made life a lot easier financially, and I had already been a diesel mechanic in the military for 20 years I literally only had to take 4 semesters at the local community college but I got my diesel and auto, and I had already started getting my ASE’s while I was still active duty which was smart cause they paid for the tests which was nice and I did that before I went to Tech school, and nowadays the new GI Bill allows for you pay for your tools, I still had the old GI Bill like you did cause I got out about 10 years ago, but that is good info for new people who are getting out of the military and wants to get into the program, which another great way to put for college is go into the National Guard, they will pay for your tuition, may depending on the state obviously but we all make mistakes, I just know that I didn’t make a mistake becoming a diesel tech after doing if for 20 years already in the military

I did retire from the military, but that wasn’t until most recently. 10 years ago I was still and M day soldier fresh off my second deployment. I didn’t know much about all the different things out there as stated in the video. I had no one to really walk me through The various scholarships, grants, and other resources available to me as an every day soldier at that time. No one I deployed with was really interested in going to college or had already gone to college and we’re on their own path.

To me the toolbox isn't a big deal I've owned all kinds of cheap boxes I bought a used snapon epic with 2 lockers I traded a boat and a little cash for it I really liked it then it got destroyed and all my tools stolen so I found my self in a hell of a spot I bought a Yukon box I had 2 old craftsman boxes and that's what I'm using today I'll buy another Yukon and bring the craftsman back home I've bought tools from every where I own a lot of lisle tools and kobalt and craftsman and orielys but harbor frieght a few but not a lot for my job and the oriely wrenches hold up good kobalt holds up good the guy I was working for stole my tools I can't prove it but he got insurance money for that but he got over on me for that call me cheap but if the tool works it don't matter what name is on it if a tool slips I throw it down pick up a different tool and go back to work

just want to throw this out there, for you newer techs, if your in a shop and a tech upgrades his tool box, if his old box is good, jump on the band wagon to buy it, my buddy just upgraded his boxhe traded in a matco double bank lower, double bank top with flip up lid side cabinet and locker, easily a 15000 dollar set up new, i bought it of the snap on guy for 2000 as a home box, and if i decide to upgrade it, I'll get 10000 for it on trade
