who did the diy lift pump write up did you say it was on the hungry diesel website? Ive got a a 1st gen '92 the band adjustments on the A518 trans was the best thing i did to my truck followed by the 3200 rpm governor spring this was in '08 everyone thought 4100 was too much then i don't think 3800 was even an option. i then crank the fuel screw, put on Lucas injectors and advanced the timing. i could pull my dads Kenworth w900 like if was pulling a empty trailer. I still need to change the fuel pin n do the kdp

I have a 93 auto so i don't want to grenade that transmission but I have a HX35 that need a rebuild I guess I need to look into putting it on my truck now ..

Well I just broke 1k and that was a pretty big deal to me! I've only had the channel going for like 7 or 8 months! A lot more videos coming soon once my laptop is fixed!

Yeah I agree with all your statements and if you see a few more of my videos you'll notice I only had the hoodstack because of the compounds, there wasnt enough room to run a downpipe to run full exhaust. Not that I took the compounds off I have full exhaust

Yeah they are virtually the same turbo except one was wastegated and for an automatic and the other was not wastegated or something, theres no difference really

@@GavinHuke Mine says HY35W meaning it has a wastegate but mine does not have a wastegate, I'm guessing it was dicked around with. I know the HX35 has a wastegate that takes up to 30psi and I'm only getting about 15 out of mine.

@@GavinHuke The fuel is definitely turned up cause it smokes pretty good when you stand on it. other than that, I don't know what all has been done to it.

If we are talking performance wise id invest in some head studs before you throw an injector in it. And if you are talking about the wheels on my blue 1g it's a 17x10 weld sidewinder

The obvious blow by, I'm picky about rust, get under it and check for leaks (gonna be a few), make sure it shifts fine, stuff like that

Yes but be careful since the fan is right next to it, theres also a blow by tube that goes under the truck. A little puff out of that is fine but shouldnt be just blowing it like crazy

Gavin has excellent advice here. I own 2 of these trucks and have learned a few things myself. Be expected to put some money into the truck on top of the purchase price, these old girls are pushing 30 now. lol If you want a 4wd truck I'd be fully prepared to do as Bob Swiss suggested too. The front steering and suspension parts do not hold up well against the power and weight of the cummins over the years. Give her a borgeson steering shaft, and moog tie rod ends. When you test drive it, check for any excessive play or pulling in the steering also any shimmies or shakes. The frame has been known to crack by the steering boxes on some of the 1st gens so it there is play in the steering make sure it is not that, if it is I'd pass on that truck. If it has a 5spd (getrag) tranny and it shifts well, I'd still drain the fluid and replace it with your choice of synthetic 5w 30w motor oil and OVER FILL IT by at least a quart. This will keep the top bearings from heating up and add tons of life to the transmission. Check to see that the ABS or brake light is not on and that you have a good firm pedal that will hold steady and not drop to the floor when pressed. If it is, the easiest, cheapest, and SAFEST way in my opinion to fix them is to totally bypass the system if your state motor laws allow it. ABS technology was not very good back then, and in snowy weather with ABS engaged I have had my brakes fail to work at all. If you go into getting a 1st gen with the mind set that you may have to make some repairs, upgrades, and mods once you're done you will have one of the most reliable and simple vehicles on the planet that is a blast to drive. Good luck!

Timing is maxed to the head on my truck. Had to bump it quite a bit for big injectors

Yes I guess that seller no longer exists. I know some have had success with typing in the headlight housing size and putting "chrome clear" at the end

Yeah a transmission should be a big priority if the truck has one that's bad or going out. If your looking to run manual an nv4500 is a great choice. Dont know much about them

No issues with it I dont her the rig till I pay off it off, altogether its 5,000$ it's a stock 1992, Dodge Cummins automatic, 4x4 with 230,000 miles, I'm excited to get it

Oh really !? Thanks for the reply so fast. Lots to learn with these I wouldn’t have guessed. The 1990 would have been a non inter cooler engine I think. I may add one and increase fuel a bit. I’m not going crazy with it just needs to power a Ramcharger around.

@winstonholmes5566 you betcha, add an intercooler and do some pump tuning and those can make 300-310hp if you've got it dialed in on stock injectors and stock turbo

Just leveled 2.5", and no those were 12 and 2" adapters. No rub. Also ran 16.5x14s on 33s right after this and those didnt rub either.

You can also go 10mph in 1st gear up narrow mountain roads pulling 5 tons of firewood and scare the hell out of yourself wondering if you're gonna make it or start rolling backwards and wreck, not to mention pissing everyone off behind you for 6 miles with no place to go around. No sir, I won't be trying that again before I drop a few hundred bucks on some cheap hp. Sometimes you just need more power.

Gavin Huke the fluid damper is actually heavier it seems like. So do you think it will make a difference on basically a stock motor?

@@dillongriggs4564 I wouldnt think it will make an sort of power difference. Ive talked to a ton of people and not one has ever said anything about a noticeable power difference, just insurance really. Its a great thing to have. The 89 will be getting one because the old one got thrown away

Yeah they quit selling them, youll have to do some research and try to find them on ebay or Amazon, my best advice is type in the size (7x6 I think) clear chrome headlights

It takes a lot for the frame to actually rust through on these trucks so if it is then absolutely dont buy it

In the video itself they are just the stock wheels on 285/75 junk Mastercrafts

I wish I had more to say about them, I'd say if they have the right size exhaust housing it would be a decent spooling setup

With compounds it was 20-21, rn with the single and bad trans it's down around 14-15.. with a new trans I'll get it dialed in and back up around 18-20

my grandpa bought the truck new and it sat for probably 10 years until he passed away and then my uncles been using it as a farm truck so its not bad but im sure it would need some work.

I'm not sure if your thinking of a different pump or not but I'm 99% positive theres so such thing on these pumps, not saying I know everything about them but I know a guy who does and he even said he's never heard anyone refer to anything on these pumps as a "timing chamber"

I agree the original color schemes are great. There are some pretty sharp custom jobs out there as well. To each their own. I plan to repaint mine. One day. Maybe. I use it as a work truck and the bed is pretty beat up but the body is pretty good. I'll probably put a spray-in bedliner in it when I repaint it the original color scheme which is the same as his except mine is red.

I'm real sorry but its stamped directectly on my housing "DOT approved" in little letters along the top side. I've had them for over a year now and zero issues. I've got my 60 bucks out of them. About to get some Morimoto bulbs to put in them to see how much of a difference it makes since people say they are the best.

Not everyone only cares about performance. There are most aspects to building a truck than ruining a perfectly good motor. If that’s what you want to watch to search for it.

When I got mine it had a light switch off a wall for power and 2 push buttons for the starter and heater...

At the time I didnt have a few things, within 2 weeks of that video I had all of them and still have all of those things now, and still would recommend the same things
