I think productivity has a lot to do with your growing conditions. These were my 5 most productive heirlooms last year (central Illinois): Sart Roloise (yellow/purple shoulders), Purple BumbleBee (large cherry/ awesome flavor), Terra Cotta (dark orange), Large Barred Boar (dark red/green/BIG), and Snow White (small saladette sized). I single-stem, vertical garden (except on the Bumble Bee which got ahead of me and took over half my garden).

I had a black cherry that took over too. I couldn't keep up with the harvest and fruit was rotting and falling everywhere. Consequently, I had a thousand volunteers this spring. It was not on my grow list for this year, but decided to give one plant a chance for its resilience and determination. 😂😂 They're still sprouting everywhere. 😅

Honestly we had a June 15th frost last year that stunted or killed all the tomatoes in my area, I was one of few gardeners who got tomatoes by the end of the season and it was only 2 plants out of 20. They were the 2 giant crimsons I planted and I got enough tomatoes off them to can salsa and marinara for the entire year! They were the most prolific tomatoes I have ever grown, my season is too short for a whole ton of production but it's dry so disease isn't an issue

We had a lousy year in 2022 due to drought. Out of 10 plants we got about 2 dozen tomatoes (including the cherry tomatoes). This year I have 48 plants 🙀, 10 cherry and 15 large tomatoes with 2 of most varieties. Of course we’ve gotten more rain this year (S TX) so I’ll be swimming in tomatoes soon. I’m most excited about the Pineapple and Pink Brandywine. We always grow Kellogg’s Breakfast and Red Brandywine so looking forward to the many varieties this year that we’ve never grown.

Black Cherry, all the proper flavor of a 'black' Krim (produces more and quicker then the cherokee or brandy) in a quick small tomato. Quick to ripen and becomes a huge vine, I grow it up metal box frames, 3ft to the first bar, 4ft then max of 5ft with a horizontal bar at the top in case I need the space (like layered tables, spaced and staked twice)- I only plant ONE Black Cherry all within eye level I can let 9ft of vine grow in central michigan

I planted 10 different varieties of tomatoes from MI Gardner seed today and none are on this list. I did plant the Wisconsin 55 and yellow pear. I only planted 48 plants, now I need to get more seed. 🍅🍅🍅

Love the video, and I'm going to grow the red centiflor this year (on your recommendation. But, as someone who knows a little Italian and Latin, it is NOT a thousand flowers, but rather a hundred (which is more than good anyway). Ciao.

I wish Farmish wasn’t so expensive. $5.00 a month seems more accessible to small back/front yard gardener that has extra produce. The cost of soil and pots and amendments does not make 299.00 a year worth it in the least.

Well to be fair you can list for free 3 listings. After that a farmers market would cost you $60-100/month or even more in some areas. So this is really affordable compared to the alternatives. We sell on it and I can say for us it’s worth it, but that will vary based on person.

Luke I love this type of content I’d loved to hear a top 10 or more. I have to say I was very sad with Rose De Burne good taste but sadly mines weren’t as productive but want to give them another shot so if you have some advice for Rose de Burne let us know. Thank you

Review time: It's nearing the end of the growing season here in SE Michigan, so it's time to look at results! We bought a couple of Ace 55s and one Red Pear plant based upon this video. Both varieties performed exceptionally well, but we'll only be purchasing the Ace 55 in the future. The Red Pair is a great-tasting cherry-type tomato that we much preferred over the Sweet 100 plants that a friend gave us this year. And it's amazingly prolific -- TOO prolific, in my opinion! That became a problem. I planted the Red Pear as one of 3 tomato plants in a 4' x 8' raised bed. I didn't stake it, depending instead upon surrounding it with one of my Texas Tomato Cages. (Very heavy gage wire, 6' tall, 20" diameter circle) I did some pruning, against the recommendation for cherry tomatoes, but it still got away from me. This thing grows so fast and puts out so much fruit that even pruning every day wouldn't be effective. It climbed well past the top of my 6' cage and then began to droop from lack of support. It became so heavy that it made this very sturdy cage bend and leaned towards one of my Ace 55s. In no time, it grew into the Ace 55 and had to be trimmed to allow enough light and air to reach the Ace 55. We went out of town when the Pears started to ripen en-mass, and I finally wound up prematurely removing the Red Pear plant at the end of August. Good plant, but too needy for garden space. I've scaled back my tomato growing, and found that having the two Ace 55 plants is enough for our modest family needs. Based upon their performance, I'll probably forsake all the others I've favored over the years and just put two or three of these in. The 'maters average about 3-1/2" to 4" in diameter, and weigh 8 - 10oz. There was some radial cracking on the early ones, but no cat facing. No blight or blossom end rot, either! I was able to reduce the early cracking with drip irrigation and the use of grass clippings as mulch, making sure that the soil retained moisture, but became neither waterlogged nor arid. It was an unusual summer here, with a very dry May, but moderate temps & frequent rainfall for most of the rest of the season. The #1 reason for my sudden love affair with the Ace 55 is the semi-determinate classification. They were the perfect match for my raised bed! It remained bush-like and stayed pretty much within the confines of my Texas Tomato Cages. The fruits grew in fairly tight 'clumps', reminiscent of the 'tomatoes-on-the-vine' like I see in grocery stores. But the tomatoes were larger. My plants almost always grow out-of-control, lean over and start to spread onto the ground. Not a problem with these! They're firm and great-tasting! I also learned about picking them just as they're showing a blush and finishing up the ripening indoors in a basket on the counter. That worked wonderfully, helping prevent cracking and allowing the plant to put more energy into the greenies still developing on the vine. We're very happy with this year's crop, and grateful for Luke's entertaining and informative videos!

I will probably buy some seeds but also buy some already started plants this year. I love Cherokee Purple and some of the other dark varieties. Where is your video on trellises? Can you post a link? I am looking to put one up that is strong but something that requires minimum tools and building knowledge. I might want to bolster something on one side of my 5 foot chain link fence that extends up further. I currently have a Better Boy plant in some of those cheap wire tomato cages that I linked together to surround one of my grow areas. The way I did it and secured it with a few logs it's stronger than just one by itself, but I may want to add something there too that bolsters it further and adds height once the plant grows taller and has more weight on it.

Yes, thats right. There are more different varieties of tomatoes that there are grains of sand on the beach. HOWEVER, not all varieties will grow in your zone SO, only look at varieties which will work for you. Dont let all those varieties overwhelm you. You will find only maybe 5 will work for you. !
