Long ago, two races ruled over Earth in friendship and harmony: PONIES and CHANGELINGS. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the ponies were victorious. They sealed the changelings underground with a magic spell. Why did this happen, you might ask? It is because the Ponies feared their only weakness: Having their LOVE absorbed by the Changelings. Thus, they attacked the Changelings abruptly and mercilessly. The Changelings were much too weak to put up a fight, as the LOVE of nearly every changeling combined is barely equal to the strength of the LOVE of one Pony. Thus, the harmony amongst them was too weak without their friendship with the Ponies and countless Changelings were slaughtered until only a few survived long enough to finally surrender. Emerging victorious, the Ponies gathered seven of their best heroes- the Elements of Harmony- and sealed the Changelings under Canterlot Mountain with a spell. Countless years passed, and the Changelings- by now having populated the entire Underground- remained embittered towards the Ponies that had turned on them. They took a vengeful look at Ponykind, a desire for vengeance that only increased with the death of Queen Chrysalis’ son as well as the fallen Filly she had adopted. Enraged, Queen Chrysalis declared war on Ponykind once more and vowed to break the LOVE barrier sealing her Changelings in Underground by killing and absorbing the LOVE of seven ponies. Horrified and disgusted by her vow, a changeling named Thorax rebelled against Chrysalis and staged a coup to overthrow her, losing without much of a chance. Instead of killing him and making him a martyr, however, Chrysalis banished him and his few remaining followers to the Ruins of the Underground to live and die in exile. From the Ruins, Thorax tried to save and protect any pony who fell into the Underground, but to his dismay, six ponies sought to find a way home and had their lives ended. Collecting their LOVE- each a different color for a different attribute- in glass containers, Chrysalis soon only needed one more pony’s LOVE to break the barrier.
