I was at woodstock, i was 17 and lost my virginity there. Hendrix set was phenomenal. After the gig i went to Jimi's trailer backstage and i helped him compose Straight ahead tune. we jammed a bit (i was bass player) and i left. He was a shy gentle and very humble man. I was devastated when he died

Woodstock was in August of 1969 not 1970. I was there. I was 19 that summer. We had to walk in(2 miles) from the main road, ( a two lane country road) as the traffic was at a full stop, because of so many people coming to it, It rained a lot. But the music was worth it.

I loved all the music, there’s nothing like an outside concert. I have 3 wonderful Children, but Woodstock69 is my claim to fame!! Music is such a great communicator! I’m still in love with Crosby, Stills, Nash. Hendrix, Santana. I’m feel very fortunate to have attended the best party of my life. They actually tried a Woodstock west, which took place December 6, 1969 at Altamont Speedway. The Hells Angels were security for the concert. It turned out just like 99' lots of violence. Things got so bad the Grateful Dead refused to play.
@Sargebri
@Sargebri 5 жыл бұрын
And the Dead helped organize the show. Of course, it originally was supposed to be at Golden Gate Park with Jefferson Airplane and Santana also playing and they were supposedly going to get a crowd of 30,000. However, when it was announced that the Rolling Stones were going to be playing, the crowd estimate went up about ten times what they initially expected and the permit for the show was pulled.

I was there... Some of my buddies and I decided the night before and we just went. I got there just in time to see the tall chain link fence go down...! I soon took a job selling hot dogs at a concession... all the food was gone in one hour. I made a small pay check for that. I saw a friend from my home town, Steven Tallerico who you will know as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame... He was in a very bad condition, if you know what I mean. The crowd continued to swell. I ran into a previous girlfriend and her sister who put me up in their tent. I stayed two or three days on then bummed a ride back to Westchester. I noticed a professional photographer on the stage take a shot in my direction just before I left and when the TIME Magazine special came out in December, spotted my distant image although without enough facial details to convince anyone but myself

Using the numbers given by the video in which a ticket of $18 would have been today's $115 and a ticket of $24 would've cost $160 Jimi Hendrix's $80,000 would be more tan 500k dollars in today's money. Only very few triple A artists can charge that amount in the current music industry; so Hendrix ain't cheap.twentytwowords.com/see-how-much-it-costs-to-hire-your-favorite-band-or-your-least-favorite-for-that-matter/

For most, it had been a long weekend, they had miles to hike back to their cars and feeling pretty burnt out. Sadly, many didn't know who was going to play or when, and most likely hadn't really heard of Jimmy Hendricks or most of the musicians who played. It wasn't like all these musicians were famous, music like this was still underground, not on your AM radio top 50 song list.

Always wanted to meet someone who was at Woodstock. Have been mesmerised with it since my teens. I traveled there myself in 2010 from Ireland. well to bethel woods in bethel Sullivan, never thought I’d see the site in my wildest dreams. Even got to see Crosby stills and Nash.

@@Rhetor305 Keep the faith hippie. Hubby and I still have our long hair, though it be a bit grey now. Still grooving and making love and peace. It was hippies' intervention that protected the planet, and ourselves. Otherwise corporations would have ruined Mother Earth totally by now. We could have done better, but now environmentalists have a saynow, and people know when they are eating junk. Live free and Power-on!

I never remember being called a hippie as a good thing. If we heard the word, it was being shouted from a group of short haired asses, always accompanied by the words like I'm going to beat you dirty mother f-ing hippies and cut your dirty hair off. Hippie was to my recollection a term made up by the media and propaganda. We may have referred to ourselves as peace freaks, heads, stoners, flower child, brothers and sisters, long haired's, but never did we call ourselves or each other "hippies". That's what the media and haters used. It still sends a chill down my spine when i hear it used, it was like the N word to us. I try to understand that those that only know what they read think it's a cool term, but it wasn't. I have young folks ask me if I'm an old hippie, i never feel comfortable with the question. I am an old stoner, an old flag waving peace freak, but not a hippie. That makes me feel like a sellout to myself and my past. ☮✌🏼🌻 ❤ No shaming intended, just a little education for the young wanna be hippies. ♡

You know there's going to be something next year. It's the 50th anniversary for Pete Squeaks! So, who will be there? Grace Slick? Babymetal? Pete Townsend? Deadmou5? Wouldn't it be wonderful to connect past and future by having a couple of twelve-year-olds get up on stage and sing a Beatles song, like maybe "Within You Without You?"

I know a guy that went to woodstock but he said he was so far back he couldn't really hear anything. Said it was very muddy and rainy. He stayed a night and left the next day because it wasn't what he hoped. He did see some naked people.. but didn't score any drugs.. or get laid. I guess it wasn't magical for everyone.

No food????? No water ??? Then I heard there was a barn full of watermelons - but folks were rambling around in the woods but no one had clear directions. Hey you can get lost in woods. But the side of the old barn was open and sure enough a ten foot high of watermelons at one end: $5 for a whole watermelon $3 for a half $1 for a fourth.(farmers math) Three friends and I arrived in two cars at 11AM Thursday after a 12 hour trip from Long Island - two hours away. The rain at night forced a group decision to leave st 11 that night. Twelve hours of feeling an alternative consciousness with many many many like minded folks.
