Excellent point about not only training, but training under stressful conditions. Adrenaline dumps cause a myriad of physiological responses, one of the most challenging being that fine motor skills are greatly diminished. So something as simple as deployment becomes extremely difficult, especially if you've never trained for it. Good stuff as always, Jared.

Riding motorcycles can help with handling adrenaline and situational awareness I haven't watched the end, but it's hard enough to introduce stress while shooting, without 100/hrs simunition classes you mostly rely on time, forcing split second decisions (have a beep or color separate for good and bad guy) It helps to have a friend yell "your dead" and fire shots during your training. Idk how you would introduce adrenaline in knife training. Also seems like if you know how to handle yourself in a fight, and have a tiny bit of critical thinking and a bit of practice stabbing and slicing..... your going to be fine. Not many "knife warriors" running around out there.

Same here Jared I'm also a former felon. Some of us just make bad decisions in or younger years. I caught my felony when I was 20 years old. I'm 43 years old now and haven't been in trouble since. It does suck not being able to have or carry a firearm for self defense but I've found a good small fixed blade will work wonders in a tight situation. As for home defense ive got a hunting big bore air rifle. I went on a moose hunt several years ago and took a 1200lbs bull in eastern Alaska. After I got home and had children I wanted to have something in the house to at least protect my family. So I bought a second air rifle and had it modded by a professional so that it's shorter and compact. It's a air force texan 50 cal in semi automatic. For an air rifle to hit as hard as a 44mag at 10 feet is something else. Just wanted to maybe put that out there for the people in the community who need another option. As far as I know all 50 states class air rifles as non firearms.
@MLGB0Yz
@MLGB0Yz 11 ай бұрын
Of course air rifles are not firearms. There’s no combustion lol. But I’m glad that you’re living well bro, I almost had a felony and I’m fortunate, so I can still have a firearm for now. It’s really not the first line defense, obviously running, hiding and then fighting is the order things should be done, but I honestly wouldn’t like a knife vs a man with a gun. I want to be a politician and hopefully I can propose a law that allows felons to carry a firearm in certain circumstances. Because why should anyone be less secure in their freedom? Granted, there’s always going to be foolish folks who kill one another over petty crap, so that’s why, being a man of Christ would change that. God bless you friend

Nothing in 2A that says you should be punished for the rest of your life after you pay your dues, you should be able to regain your constitutional rights. All of 'em. Craig Douglas of Shivworks & his principles for grappling/knife use is outstanding, & something I recommend every good guy/gal that carries a firearm should embrace. Also for us guys this is a huge advantage for our wives, daughters, & children in general. My wife & kids train bjj, & muay thai & my wife also carries a firearm & this is a great tool to have in the old toolbox.

My concern about liner lock knives are the toughness in a bad situation.
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 11 ай бұрын
it depends on the liner some are made to fail while others are made to break before fail, also cerain ones have a lot of strength while others dont, like a compression lock is usually stronger than most regular liner locks, yet its still a liner but the pressure between the stop pin makes it much stronger
@spasticmuse4262

My issue with liner lock knives is the process to close them REQUIRES you to put a nice soft, fleshy, bleedy thumb IN THE PATH OF A MOVING BLADE!!! Think there's some OSHA regulations against similar actions in the workplace. Keeps me from buying what look to be nice, even fun knives, but I see liner lock and NOPE.

I love knives, cheap to expensive. My Dad bought my first, a 1 and a quarter, double blade pen knife, I still have it. He told me back in the 1950's, "...all men should carry one and if used properly, more damage can be inflicted (slashing) from a 1" blade than a 5 or 6" blade because of concealability." Most of my ancestry evolved around the Italian and my Uncle's knowledge of use for protection stayed with me. As a fisherman, I carry no less than three knives and a U.S. Navy long blade machete. For EDC, a 2" lockblade and a Philipeian karambit. I've had my share or skirmishes. I forgot to mention: Training is the key to success. No matter what you carry.18:39

Good video. I totally agree about adrenaline stress training to help with dealing with all the mental physical stuff that happens. I also grew up in a tough area (Texas/Mexico border area). I'm an old retired guy who isn't the young Marine he once was. I train with weapons daily and have been blessed to have some good martial arts training (Kenpo/Escrima/Kuntao-Silat). The Emerson Wave feature is nice. I'm a big fan of Kershaw-Emerson knives because of the Wave feature and lower cost than an Emerson. I also agree that a smaller, well made fixed blade knife that is easy to conceal and deploy and that you're willing to do daily training with is a good tool to have. Keep up the good work. I’m a new gun owner and am now looking into an edc/defense blade option. Totally agree that a blade can be the better tool in some defensive situations. Also, I fully intend to abide by the gun laws making a blade the only/best defensive option in some settings.

I liked the video a lot, you showed a great models of knives and you said very smart things. I can say for myself i love knives, and i always carry a folding knife in my pocket - the Bulgarian version of Spyderco Military - Manly Peak. I'm using it like an utility knife for everyday tasks, and thank God i still never needed to use it like a weapon. But even if some day i have to, i'm sure he will do the job exelent. Greatings from Bulgaria

+1 for the double edged clinch pick 2. I wanted something ambidextrous for when I'm driving. Once you had someone lean in your drivers window and start swinging you start thinking about an easy access defense. That guy from Shivworks knows his stuff.

It takes about two hundred deployments before you begin to achieve muscle memory. I always do some practice runs before I leave the house. Just make sure I'm fully familiarized with my weapon. Bottom line training makes you faster. And the fastest man to the party wins every time.

regarding the firearm vs. knife argument... maybe read into libre fighting. it kinda supplements shivworks stuff, is pretty interesting overall, and makes a few arguments why knives are interesting. for example knives and knifelike objects (pointed, edged) are more readily available, even in so called weaponless zones. think a pen or pencil or some scissors.

I always practice pulling it out raoidly under pressure 😊. Then no one can escape the claw. Seriously though great video. I got a yojimbo that came with a wave type accessory on it so it deploys when i pull it out of my pocket. Firearm should be last resort depending on the scenario.

Firearm should come in ahead of a knife if you can get to it. Both are deadly force and juries hate knife use especially a hardcore self defense knife.
