Most of these problems are beginner problems. Real riders don’t need gear indicators. What did riders do for 50 years without them? If you hand or wrist hurts its because you aren’t riding properly.

i agree i rirde 05 636 too and can ride it for hours now those bars are uncomfortable but you learn how to keep your elbows bent

I’ll agree about the bars and the aches in the hands/wrists but with an asterisk *. My commute home from work is only 25 km but is stop and go bumper to bumper most of the way. About 45 minutes. By the end, my 50 year old hands are feeling a little tired and needing a break. However on a ride of 800 km, 11 hours in the saddle (Sargent) I was still good to go physically. I find the pace affects how the overall ergonomics feel.

I have the identical bike in fact it's #.......0003 , so 3rd one made. I'm 66 years old and this is my 35th bike, I LOVE IT, I find it comfortable enough for 400 to 600 KM rides, it can power wheelie, (without clutch) and I find it very smooth, handles great, but one thing I did add was bar risers, and that helped a lot.

#1. I changed to a Corbin seat on my VFR and found it less comfortable than the stock seat. You can save your butt by raising it when you hit bumps in the road. #2. If you learn to ride with your arms loose, and use your back to support you, it will strengthen your back, keep pressure from your wrists and will allow the bike to literally dance under you (hint from Reg Pridmore's Superbike School), #3. I've accumulated well over 60,000 miles on four VFR's, including a number of track days; while it's no superbike, I've found the pegs to be almost perfectly located. #4. My latest VFR, a 2014, has a gear indicator which I find novel but frankly useless. Beyond a reliable indicator for neutral, I find no benefit to knowing what gear it is in, as the engine will always tell you when it wants to be in a higher or lower gear. As you note, "it's not a big deal." #5. The 6th gen headlights are not bad, but the HID bulb replacement will change your whole opinion of night riding and even during the day do a much better job of warning cagers that you're coming. There is no perfect motorcycle, but if you spend time in the saddle of other machines, you'll find this one hits the sweet spots!

60,000 miles over four bike? What a wuss. Lets see, I put 32,500 on my 05 B4 she was stolen (I know, who the fuck steals a VFR right?). Then 22,300 on 07 that I replaced my 05 with until some cager tried to kill me coming back from Vegas and destroyed her. Lucky to get another 28k on the replacement 07 until a lil shit ran a red. Was only able to get 14,200 on my 8th gen 14 until a drunk tried to kill me but I was lucky enough to be able to get back in the saddle, find a SUPER clean 07 with under 2k miles and have put in another 5200 on her. 9 years, 5 bikes, 102,300 (&counting) miles. Get some miles in ya SLACKER ;^)

I bought a 2007 Interceptor ABS in early 2016, and have put about 8,000 miles on it since. You're right, the stock seat is uncomfortable--I bought a used Sargent seat on eBay and it has made all the difference. Clip-ons are a little low, until you take it on twisty roads (which fortunately we have not far from home and I go out of my way to find), then they're just right. Finally, I like the look of the front end, but didn't enjoy the hours it took to replace both main beam bulbs when one burned out. It's a real pain in the ass replacing them unless you've got tiny skinny snake-like hands and fingers (which actually I do and it still didn't help). All that said, the engine is buttery smooth, there's more than enough torque and power for me, the handling is superb and I love the way she looks.
@alainpaquin627
@alainpaquin627 6 жыл бұрын
Like you said, this is your own opinion... As far as the clip ons, you shouldn't put weight on your hands/wrists. You've got to squeeze the tank with your knees and keep yourself upright using your abs muscles like when you're on sport bike...As far as the seat goes, I find it OK but if you upgrade to a Corbin/Sargent, you'll see the difference. I've had so many bikes over the years and I've always had a VFR among them a a second bike. My experience on Honda's V4 goes way back in early 80's. Interceptor 750 1984, Interceptor 1000 1985, Interceptor 750 1990, VFR800 2003 and now, a VFR800 2015 and it's always nice to ride it. Most of the bikes I've owned over the years were Super Sport bikes...

I think you are the first person I’ve ever heard say that the VFR is uncomfortable. It seems like a simple thing, you sit down and see what you think; but in reality, it takes some time to get accustomed to it ( as I’m sure you know ). On a VFR, 500 miles should be done in 1 week, or 1 weekend, not 1 1/2 months. That said, city riding is not a comfortable endeavor on most sporty bikes, so if that’s where you ride then I completely understand. I’ll have to agree with you on the headlights, I’ve never been too fond of them. Thank You for the review!

Wrexicate honestly I loved the bike. I am nitpicking in this video because there aren’t many bad things I can say about this bike. But yeah, mostly city riding is my style and in the end it wasn’t for me. I chose the Yamaha FZ09 as it’s replacement

@@treecityrider5232 I appreciate that but the things you hate are just nitpicking. I have s VFR and there a certain things I dislike, but to say I hate them is a bit strong. I dislike how long it takes the engine to warm up before VTEC works effectively. I dislike that it is top heavy and can easily be dropped. I guess I was looking for problems and not personal preferences.

i got the same bike and was interested in your opinion. As you write ..it is your personal opinion. And yes I disagree in some points: The seat - yes it seems to bee to "cheap" for this bike, but it has never given me any problems - and I take some very long trips. Also the clip ons i like - I love the riding position because you can ride relaxed or more sportlike according to your mood. Im interested in hearing your opinion about the engine because thats what make the bike special. It has taken me some time to learn how to put the throttle on in the corners in the best way...but im getting there - what do you think?
@treecityrider5232

Per Arnoldi I agree that the engine took a few days to get used to. The change from 6000 to 7 with the vtec kicking in can be choppy on the throttle when coming out of turns. But I learned to like it. It feels like a turbo kicking in

Understanding it is not specifically designed for passenger comfort, is it decent as far as the Sport Tour models go? I missed out on an 84 VF1000 but have bought into the nostalgia and what the VFour is about, and this bike looks like it would tickle the itch when the time is right for me. I'd be solo for 80% of the time, but wouldn't want my passenger to hate being on the back. Do you have any input on passenger comfort?

it seems like it is all about appearance to you. where is your valuation of the functionality versus appearance? Do you recognize it costs more money to plate surfaces which makes them stronger, easier to clean, and observable for defects? If you want painted black stuff buy a Chinese bike, right?

I put 500 miles on in a weekend. You should have done your homework bud. You clearly are a new rider, you don't need a gear indicator if you are paying attention to your riding. I don't think you're cut out for motorcycling, most of us will get on and ride anything just to ride. Complaining about how the legendary VFR because it's not a GSXR. BTW, I've had a GSXR, you would hate that too, they are track bikes basically. A GSXR would kick your butt dude, you're coming from a Nighthawk 750. And how can you only put only 500 miles on it? No, just sell it and buy a KTM 330.

No OE motorcycle seat is comfortable. Manufacturers design them to sell the bike, so it looks good on the showroom floor. There's absolutely NO incentive for them to make the seat comfortable for longer than the test ride. Everyone knows this (or should). There's a reason there's a dozen different aftermarket seat manufacturers out there. As for comfort, the bike is a SPORT tourer. If you want a sport TOURER, look at an ST1300.

That is an old worn out seat that obviously wasn't taken care of or probably even garaged. Based on your handlebar and seat complaints it is evident you do not practice proper riding position; you should not be using your wrists to support you. Can of black enamel spraypaint is like $8. If you wanted a gsxr you should buy one, totally different animal. I learned a cool trick in kindergarten; I can count from 0 all the way up to 6 and back down again. Sounds like you didn't buy the right bike for you.
