Learn the cheapest way to grow leafy greens and why you should do it! We grow them in a nutrient solution with no soil. Clean hands, clean veggies. Easy DIY hydroponics. Please share with someone you think this could really help. Thank you, let's teach the world to feed itself.
EBook shows how to do this and many other exciting projects: www.etsy.com/listing/61500865...
Supplies and seed that I use that can't be found at local home improvement stores: amazon.com/shop/mrduzee1

You can see how to use 3 oz Dixie cups and foam in my other videos. If you prefer not to make your own, you can use what most hydroponic growers use:
2" Net cups from Ponics Farm : amzn.to/2mxoLUQ
You can cut your own foam insert out of craft foam or get it here : amzn.to/2mnwMyy

Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you so much for your detailed info. I have learned so much from you and though I am a newbie, I think I can have success with some of your ideas. I hit the dollar store (gloves and mask on) and grabbed my storage containers, got my shammies and seeds, my larger storage containers and my nutrients. I am geared up and so exited, now I am watching my plants grow.....I am impatient lol!

Oh ya love to use OJ containers. I use milk containers but they are not as thick so I will have to paint them so I dont tend to use them as much. The net cups are so expensive compared to other things you can use. Thanks for sharing :)

This is super! If I had my life to do over again, this is something I'd do from t he get go. Since I don't, I'll do what I can with what time I have left, and enjoy it like nothing else! Ever since I stumbled onto hydroponics, and to your videos, I've been begging milk and juice jugs off of people. I got a one dollar pool noodle the other day, and I'm really looking forward to getting started. You've really inspired me to get going with this, and I'm very grateful for it. All I have left now is to get the fertilizer. I'm hoping I'll have the money at the beginning of next month in hopes that there will still be some time during this summer to grow a few things, or that I can continue growing things in my window through the fall, winter, and early spring. The Great Plains are a harsh environment for plants, but my dad used to manage to grow a pretty good garden out here, and most years had a lot of things for us to can, freeze and cook. I know it really cut down our grocery bill to a manageable size. I only wish he had have been willing to share with us. His garden was his decompression from a very stressful job though, and he wanted to be by himself out there. He used to tell other people that his garden was his country club and his gin and tonic. It was definitely a more wholesome way of getting through life, and we all benefited. Thanks for sharing what my father could not. I am sure that he'd be grateful, as am I.

That's an awesome story, thank you for sharing. If you email me at keepongrowin1@gmail.com, tell me you are Mamma Duck and I will send you a few free samples of fertilizer to experiment with the hydroponics. Each one makes 5 gallons of nutrients. Make sure you get the email right, there is no "g" at the end of growing.

For a pool noodle project I did I needed to punch small holes through the noodles. I used these big wooden skewers I got at Dollar Tree. They're basically XL kabob skewers. Those or even the regular sized might be good to punch holes for your micro-greens.

The pool noodles are fabulous! This was a very helpful video!

Thanks much. Yeah, it only takes 10 grams of Masterblend for 5 gallons of water. These downspouts and Kratky containers use very little and not much is lost to evaporation. It was a 25 lb bag, I think I paid about $50 for it. Have fun.

I had someone save me those red coffee containers. My first hydroponic attempt looked good! I sprouted some baby choi seeds in a zip bag. They even stayed green for a few weeks. But they didn't grow and eventually died off. It was maybe too cold back in February, or ph was a problem. For the growing season I'll use those containers to root cuttings. And I might try a hydroponic basil or lettuce while I'm at it!

Something to consider for safety. Only use plastic containers that are food safe. Look up the plastic code (the recycle number on the bottom). From my research, pp5 and pp2 are the safest plastics to use that won't leech chemicals.

@@KeepOnGrowin, I only thought I knew a bunch about growing microgreens, then I began watching your channel. By the way, I just tossed out the last of my rock-wool and will be using only pool noddles from now on. So damn simple and cheep too!

Be sure to let your neighbors know you need containers like apple, orange, and other juice containers, nut milk bottles, jars with lids, etc. Great resource to let your neighbors help you up-cycle them into food production.

Hey Mike sorry if this was asked already I couldn’t find it in the comments, after the micro greens get bigger do you remove that little foam plug or just leave it in ? I’m wondering if you have to adjust that to make room for the larger stalk. Thanks

Astrid Prescod Nice to meet you. That is a tough one. You are going to have to see if there are any hydroponic suppliers and try one of their hydroponic nutrient, I really couldn't say what is available.

Ammonia, is Nitrogen. Epsom salt is potassium. mix them for a good fertilizer. Or if you have saltpeter which is s potassium nitrate use that. ( for people that can't get Masterblend) For phosphorus I use eggshell in the bottom of the containers. You can use urine but I don't.

@@midnull6009 give it a light dusting of ash. It will neutralize the acid and boost the root growth with extra phosphorus.

Thank you for all your help. All I need to know is what happens to the solution after harvest. I cann't throw it on my organic garden. Can i just refill the containor and plant again?
@KeepOnGrowin

Not really. Your plants will not use all of the different compounds at the same rate. After a while the ratios will be off. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have more questions.

Mike, thanks for the vids, you make it look so easy! Picking up my vinyl downspouts today with elbows (and an aluminum foil cap) since I don't have a heat gun. What do we use to make those elbows water tight? I'm in SoFlo with high heat/sun exposure, should I keep the baby greens and transplants in the shade? Also, why don't we need moving water/aerators? I see you don't use any and after 7-8 videos, can't find an explanation. If you've answered this already, maybe a link? But it would save me a bundle if we won't need to hook up electricity for the pumps! Thanks again!!
@KeepOnGrowin
@KeepOnGrowin 4 жыл бұрын
Awesome. You can just use silicone to seal those elbows on. Aerstion works but it is not necessary. If you are growing plants that take a long time to mature, it may help. I grow mostly fast growing greens. Keep me updated!

Yesterday I was searching for those net cups.. they are no where to be found except on Internet... I did however find a perfect substitute.. it is a small 3 inch stand they use to hold rebar off the ground. It’s perfect... anyway check it out.
