A big issue for me in fixed-wing flight training was getting the hang of the controls: being aggressive when needed but not over-controlling. Things clicked one day doing steep turns over Glen Valley when I started to feel one with the plane, almost an avian exoskeleton rather than a pilot and an airplane. My instructor noticed and told me "whatever you had for breakfast today, eat more!"

A Helicopter forum member said *"to develop control sensitivity, glue a paddle onto a broom handle and balance a golf ball on it while miming lifting the collective and moving the pedals"* Would you be able to make a video on exercises/muscle memory/ coordination drills you could do while at home between Helicopter lessons? Im sure youve come across a few. Cheers mate!

This video could not have come out at a better time for me! I am very interested in becoming a student pilot (rotary wing) I have a lot of connections and family members that inspired me to get into aviation. (It mostly all shifted towards rotary wing when I went on a helicopter tour around Honolulu in an md500). Next weekend I am going out to my local airport for a consultation with a flight school and this was perfect timing for this video.

This instruction is the same as what I was taught by an instructor about half a century ago. Ultimately, the Bell47G2 will allow cyclic control to perform precise hovering with just the index finger of the right hand.

What I found, an this was a very long time ago, was that I just had to "think" what I wanted to do. Somehow, magically, the controls just moved the right direction and the right amount and the helicopter did the right stuff for me. Think about it.

Hi. I'm 67 and live nearby and sometimes see them flying overhead. You can enjoy the dream by getting a gamer pc and xplane11, they have two helicopters with BCHelicopters registration and is the Cabri and R66. Did you see pilot yellow world tour in the R66? Epic world tour. Flight simming is fun and can be very real with vr. Look up mfs2020 as well, bowchello

9 months ago he did a vid "Are you too old to be a pilot" ... might want to check it out :) All it takes is money and time and a certain level of health/sight ... Course, there's always pilots who'd love to take you up for a ride so they can get hours in the craft for the right $$$ ... Might not be able to fly the aircraft, but it's a way to learn a bit... :) Never stop dreaming and never stop learning!!!!

I buddy nice to see you.hope you are well. All the best for the rest of 2o21.philip wants to buy a helicopter or plane I have not decided yet. I fancy the helicopter because it can do nearly everything and land all most anyway. With a plane you have the runway and the speed and the height. If you live near the runway it would be better. If I bought a helicopter I would need a helicopter pilot to teach me to become a top pilot. Do you no what I mean. Take care buddy phil.

Do you think that flying in a simulator like X-Plane can also be a good training befor starting to learn flying in a real flightschool?

I really wish Mischa would address the use of simulators. He seems to studiously avoid the subject but maybe that's an unfair comment. But - everything I hear from actual helicopter pilots is that they are great for developing and maintaining skills. I appreciate that they are never going to replace actual flight time in the real thing but I am surprised BCHelicopters doesn't have a few for their students when they can't fly due to bad weather. I know that a great simulator for the Cabri was developed for XPlane 11 by VSKLabs even with the GELP paint and markings and that Mischa was aware of it. Mischa if you read this comment can you please cover this in a future video ? A simulator is the closest some of us oldies will ever get.

So I could go to liveatc.net and actually here you on the radio talking to your local tower? Is there a flight sim that you would recommend for helicopter training? I know nothing is the same as reality.
@BlueSideUp

There is a simple answer to the Sim question: XPlane 11. There are good flight mechanics and you can get the Cabri G2 or R44 aftermarket as aircraft for it. Use a no spring Joystick that doesn't go back to center as Cyclic and a low resistance Thrust Controller as Collective. It needs to be in VR, no use on a flat screen. Stop once you fly the actual Helicopter not to confuse the feel of it. You can restart once you can fly, to practice with the instruments and some procedures, even Autorotation. I was able to fly with all controls after 48 Minutes in the real G2 and was told that's pretty quick for my age and even for all ages.

DCS is probably the best for choppers. These are geared toward military choppers like the Huey and the gazelle. No commercial though. I know MSFS 2020 is working towards a few helicopters in the near future. Not sure which models. Xplane has a few, how realistic they are I don’t know as I moved to MSFS.
@BlueSideUp
@BlueSideUp 3 жыл бұрын
@@crashandburngaming5103 O.K. I should have been more specific. X Plane 11 allows to fly everywhere in the world, prep. for a VFR flight, Nav Aids, etc. with the civilian helicopters that people usually fly like the Robinsons, the Cabri G2, and so on. I didn't even think about DCS because of the "C" in it. I dismissed it for having a couple of maps only, no way to use them as VFR prep. and no civilian Helicopters. Did I miss something, because then DCS would of course be worth a look. I don't believe MS will ever get more than Arcade flight models implemented, especially not for Helicopters. VR is also more a hack still but that might improve.

I'm looking into getting my license... is it true that it will be virtually impossible for me to get a job as a helicopter pilot without 1500 to 2000 hours? I can afford to get my commercial license, but there is no way I can afford an additional $600k+ to get the hours on my own.
