Depends on the subbies that the developer uses, and obviously how good the site team manage the trades. So it's understandable how you can get such differences from site to site. Love your videos, not long been working in new developments for an older people's housing provider and your vids are really helpful.

It's just as important (maybe more so) to have a builder that fixes their issues in a timely and proficient manner.

As a kitchen fitter based in the northwest, I would always say Story homes are the best house builder! The quality and care to detail in almost all the sites I have been on is exceptional! I’d put them well and above Taylor wimpey. But like you say they don’t come close to quantity. Good video mate. Keep em coming 👊🏻

I have the misfortunate of living in a Redrow built flat in Kent. Thankfully I've only been a tenant and will be moving into my own Victorian era house in a few months. The quality of the work that Redrow have signed off is absolutely shocking, I genuinely feel sorry for my Landlord and the other owners of flats. The property maintenance company are onsite generally 3 days a week every week (they must be making a fortune here) the cost of which is borne by the flat owners via the maintenance charge. If you are considering buying a Redrow built flat in Kent (indeed any flat in a development) I cant advise you enough to fully understand what maintenance costs you're likely to pay as time passes. Like a pothole that will only get bigger, as these flat age the maintenance costs are going to significantly rise.

Fred Story prides himself in building quality homes and he's a genuine person too.

Do you also inspect the electrical installation(s), because although I'm not an electrician, I've always been interested in electrical work and am subscribed to a lot of channels such as CJR Electrical, Dave Savery, Nick Bundy and Artisan Electrics, and at least two of these channels have commented on how poor the work is on new builds, with Jordan from Artisan even quoting 'Abzolootly Shockin''. But he or another from Artisan also commented that, it must be harder to make make a new consumer unit's wiring to look so messy, especially keeping track of which circuits you've tested etc.

I appreciate the work you do for people i have watched tons of your videos and i think you do a great job in helping people that otherwise would have no idea.... But while i can appreciate what your doing i find that all 'new builds' in the UK during the last 20 or so years are of poor quality overall i think. You can snag the property on completion and have all these problems rectified but the problem is they are built usually with cheap materials and within 10yrs the issues begin again and never stop

Good for Taylor Woodrow they must have some good site managers , though I would still prefer a house built in the 1960's as they seem to have more pride in the workmanship in those days.

I bought a new build house in Thailand last year, and looked over what had been built and were being built. Did not see anything of concern. The house we bought was spot on. The only thing to note was a sticking internal door. Which was fixed in no time. Moving in date came and could not find a single thing wrong. I have worked in construction a long time and know my stuff.

David Wilson Home's, my m8 bought one and had to threaten them with court action before he could get the all the faults fixed, and he had the money to do so. Moved out a year later!

As you've said, it's the site team that builds the plot, not the brand. You could have two sites with the same name above the door, but the quality could be completely different. Keep up these absolutely shocking videos 😉

Bloor homes took 9 months later to build the home than originally stated and also told to move out as its "nearly finished" 6 months before it was

The ironic thing here is that David Wilson is owned by barratts. In Shrewsbury there’s 2 new developments on the go side by side, one is barratts the other David Wilson, we looked at barratts but they were tiny the salesperson clocked we were considering David Wilson but we’d mentioned the price difference when she told us that they own David Wilson, but David Wilson were considered the more luxury build but the materials, people etc are the exact same

I live in a new build, not even 5 years old. Energy rating B. But loses all its heat in under 10 minutes, council will not do anything. What do I do, any advice please?

There is a new build site near me in allerton bradford... about 200 houses and 150 probly built over the past couple years.. anyways I was sent a photo of there show house and some one had painted on the roof "don't buy a new house here" haha

Feel bad for all the comments saying they are about to buy a new build. I've worked for most and seen absolutely shocking bodges on all of them, a lot that aren't picked up in a post completion snag. Wouldn't touch one with 1/3 off the list price

I think alot of the quality of the house on site comes down to the trades that get the tender.

Have you ever been to a Beal Homes site? Would love to hear your opinion on them as everyone on my site has had nothing but praise. Very well built, little to no snags and customer care is quality.

I'd of thought 5 issues in a new house would be (shocking) .I try to leave every job I do with 0 issues and go through the job with them at end to make sure there happy with everything. Crazy world

We moved into a bloor home within the last 12 months unfortunately our site has had no end of troubles from missing roof tiles, missing insulation, boiler issues, piping issues. Build issues. I cant fault certain people but the person in charge of site and the contractors in your words have been absolutely SHOCKING!!!

I’d be interested to get you thoughts on Countryside homes. I don’t think I’ve seen them mentioned much, if at all before. Do you think they’re any good?

I went round a St George Development in Notting Hill a few years ago. Houses starting at 6 Million. Even in that price range I could have given 3 days work for 2 people to put the little things right

You got a list of developers you included? I looked at David Wilson and Taylor Rose homes and they came across as low quality. They should have hired you to check their show homes!

Since we are talking about defects, price shouldn’t really be a factor, should it? A bathroom with cheap fixtures & fittings can still be installed to an appropriate standard. A cheap window can be installed with the correct sealant and without scratches all over the glass. Installing weep vents properly isn’t much of an extra cost. Doesn’t it come down to rushing things, expecting subcontractors to complete things too quickly, using cheap labour/inexperienced tradesmen and employing incompetent site managers? Not to mention the fact that someone who is supposedly independent is inspecting and signing off these buildings as “passed” before handover.

You need to get the managers over and record them when you question them on the plots.

David wilson and bloors always seem decent. Taylor wimpey are good but the houses are very basic. Bellways are hit and miss. Never been impressed with the site management on Redrow but the houses are higher spec and have more detail.

I bought a new home after saying I would never buy new as prices are so tight gor contractors the only way they make money is to cut corners, and that's where the snagging comes in. Taylor wimped I found poor, Bloor and Redrow were the best for me and I am a carpenter so spot more than the average person.

I bought a Redrow home and they were shocking. Even things like glueing the letter box on. And getting them back to fix issues was near impossible.

As a materials supplier, I can safely say that persimmon are horrendous. Cheap, dodgy but expensive. No wonder their chief executive could afford a £90million bonus in 2019.

I saw thumbnail and there is Barrat Homes. I was like, there is no way they have improved so much to be in top 5. Working as joiner for Barrat was one reason why i left construction sites for a while and went private. I could not face customers doing cutomer care, knowing what stuff is behind walls etc, even tho not even my work or fault. Will agree now on Redrow, at least site im now working, the site managers actually care to deliver good quality. We had delivery in slightly scratched doors, could be fixed by painter/magic man, but they just went and got new delivery with making sure we get stuff right.

It's way beyond time that the developers sack and blacklist site managers and contractors that are not up to the job. New homes should have ZERO defects, and any new build home that goes to a customer with any defects should be prosecuted, forced to fix the issue within 2 weeks maximum, and pay compensation to the customer.

Since Countryside properties was taken over by Vistry the quality is just horrific. We were looking at some apartments in Bracknell and good lord they are awful. They used to make really nice homes, now they are like Happy Shopper homes.

Fuck no, and fuck no 100 times more. I have a Taylor Skimpy home and it's utter garbage compared to my previous DWH. So many issues, poor finish. Everyone on the estate (163 homes) has huge issues and I've heard this across multiple sites.
