The chances of any historical movie being made and actually historically accurate these days is less than 0 so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Gallipoli was one of the first great Australian films. Danger Close is a recent film about the Battle of Long Tan. Read the history, then watch it and tell us again that Australian film-makers ignore historical accuracy.

@@andrewstrongman305 Tell me where I said they did? Gallipoli was released in 1981 but if that's your definition of 'these days' then fine. I'm not singling out Australian movies at all by the way but films generally. If you're happy with films like Napoleon - as an example - then more power to your elbow mate.

The black person in the blitz pictures is the director of the film. I'm not sure if they will have many black actors in the film or not, but the confirmed cast seems to show one black actress and one Indian one, so not too unrealistic in my opinion

All of these look like “streaming crap movies.” A historically accurate movie can’t be made anymore because of the risk of offending certain groups. Something as important as the Second World War deserves to be told as accurate as possible.

Hollywood seems to think, the 2WW is still ongoing and "black propaganda" to smear the enemy must go on endlessly. Germans (and Japanese) must be played extremely evil, bloodthirsty, but also dumb and ridiculous. Movies made in Sixties were absolutely the best - "Tora, Tora, Tora", "Battle for Britain", "The Eagle has landed"
@andrewstrongman305
@andrewstrongman305 8 күн бұрын
@@tbolt2378 Actually, part of the problem faced by movie-makers is that WW2 language has never been allowed. The Japanese were "the Japs", Germans were "Jerries" , Italians were "Eyeties". "Tora, Tora, Tora" and "Battle for Britain" were fortunate to have plenty of original aircraft to use, but budget constraints have usually resulted in obvious mock-ups in place of real vehicles, particularly German tanks.

@colinmacmillan2944 I know every scene and shot of that movie, they even flew spitfires and 109's (buchons) over my head when filming. The first time I ever saw those aircraft flying. Just about every air war movie has outtakes from the BoB including Tora Tora Tora and any cheap budget war movie of the last 20 years.

I have no faith that any movies made anymore will be worth a bucket of warm spit as regards in any way shape or form even coming close to actual history. At least the movies fifty years ago and such were not intended to make social agendas come true.
@KyleCowden

I thought Masters of the Air was good. The amount of comp footage vs. CGI was fairly impressive knowing how few forts and 109s there are. I did enjoy spotting the G models that had their chin turret and cheek guns removed to play F models. Of course, the scale of the missions and the limits of framing resulted in some inaccurate and a little cartoonish shots.

Before Dawn, was filmed entirely in Western Australia. The director is a friend of mine and I am even listed in the credits. Jordon Prince-Wright the Director/Producer used over $1 million worth of explosives, ( when set off they even were recorded on the Richter scale for earthquake, such was the force of the explosions.) All firearms are real and nothing was plastic. Where it was wet and muddy it was real, it was made on site on a farming property at Esperance, where the farmer donated his property and even helped dig the trenches. It was based on factual diaries from local identities. There was nothing fake about it, except where changes to dialogue were set to create a storyline. God bless.

Wasn't the Classic, Gallipoli mostly filmed in W.A? For this one, I'd have thought they'd use Victoria or NSW for the free rain and mud, also overcast skies.

@@andrewstrongman305 .. Some parts of Gallipoli were indeed filmed in WA, but most were in SA and NSW. However Jordon Prince-Wright, a West Australian and local lad, wanted to make it all in WA, except for a few headline type personalities everyone were local people, keeping the local experience and economy in WA. He didn’t need to look beyond the local industry and assistants to produce what he has done. At only 25 years of age he is an amazing young man with bigger things to come. With the backing of his parents and many, many people he produced what some thought impossible. He knew what he wanted to do and he did it. Congratulations to Jordon.

The one entry I'd love to see is 'Before Dawn'. One of the first truly classic movies made by Australian cinema was 'Gallipoli', which remains a benchmark. Australian diggers earned a reputation on the Western Front that is celebrated even today by the French. Of our 60,000 killed in the 'Great War', most fell in France. It's something that's more important to us than cheesy, flag-waving, and I trust that this movie is as realistic as possible. 'Danger Close' realistically portrayed the Battle of Long Tan only a few years ago. I expect no less from 'Before Dawn'.

For the United States , World War two started when the fascist empire of Japan bombed Hawaii on a Sunday morning, not one of these moves is about world war two in the Pacific - Woke liberals ignore the war with Japan because they do not want to depict Caucasians fighting Asians - for every 10 world war two movies 8 are about Europe and 2 are about the actual conflict that plunged America into the war - The Japanese bombed the United States , not the Nazis - The top 10 war movies on Netflix are also only about Europe -

"Ungentlemanly Warfare" on place nr.1? The movie is getting only "meh"-reviews and is obviously trying to be a kind of watered down Inglorious Basterds. So it isn't a realistic movie. All of these new war films look awesome. Not sure if you have seen 1917, the remake of All Quiet On The Western Front and War Horse as these are all WW1 films. Some other WW1 films are Passchendaele, The Lost Battalion and The Red Baron. Passchendaele is about the Canadian Expeditionary Forces at the battle of Passchendaele, however it's more of a war romance similar to Peral Harbor. The Lost Battalion is about a U.S Battalion that gets surrounded by German forces and holds the line. This is one of my favorite WW1 films.

Before Dawn looks better IMHO than 1917, Bonhoeffer looks really good as does Shamrock Spitfire [unintended pun that the movie is 'grounded' btw? ;)}. Blitz and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare look to be disappointingly pandering to the 'woke' agenda. Using unknown actors can go two ways; either they are rubbish /or/ they are good and you spend the movie investing in their characters instead of trying to remember what you've seen them in previously. Also if the viewer ignores everything that is a 'X vehicle' they'll watch an unknown actor in preference to X.

Not very historical, only let non-whites have guns towards the end of WW2. No way any African American would have commanded a ship, USA only let women into combat in the mid-1990s. FYI I don't agree with this but it's still historical, I doubt any woman or African American would have commanded anything until recently.
