- The human body relies on vitamin B12 to produce red blood cells. The more red blood cells that are created, the more oxygen is carried through the body. One thing to remember is that fatigue is only one symptom, so don’t assume you’re vitamin B12 deficient.
- To keep your muscles strong, they need oxygen. The red blood cells that deploy oxygen to the muscles rely on vitamin B12. So if you are vitamin B12 deficient, your muscles will feel weak.
- In severe cases, vitamin B12 deficiency can damage the optic nerve. It can also plug up the blood vessels directly in the retina. This can cause double vision, blurry vision, and even vision loss.
- If you notice that your complexion looks yellowish, you may be vitamin B12 deficient. It’s when the red blood cells are broken that causes the release of bilirubin. So speak with your doctor if you experience this.
- The little bumps that are present on your tongue are called papillae. People who suffer from B12 deficiency lose the papillae on their tongue. If you lose most of it, your food will not taste good.
- Memory loss or Foggy Memory is often mistaken for Alzheimer’s and dementia. But vitamin B12 deficiency can also be to blame.
- Our bodies contain good bacteria, which is responsible for breaking down foods and absorbing nutrients. But when there is an imbalance of gut bacteria, it can result in improper absorption of essential nutrients. This could include vitamin B12.
- Add sources of vitamin B12 like fish, chicken, and lamb to your diet. You can also add beef liver and chicken liver as well.

I thought that Vitamin B 12 could not be absorbed by mouth (via the gut) & had to be administered IM. Anyone know if that’s the case?

Pallavi Lazarus No, b12 is only found in animal proteïn. It has to be digested by an animal for us. Humans are not build to be 100% vegan.

When I was in my early 30’s my feet started to hurt. It got so bad I could barely walk. My doctor ran a test and said I can’t absorb B12. I’ve been injecting it for the past 15 years. It took several months of the injections but my feet are fine now. I had no idea a vitamin deficiency could mess you up so much 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@nikkyshairades9078 I do. At first I had a nurse do it because I didn’t think I could do it myself without freaking out. Then after a year of sitting in a doctors office once a month for over half an hour just for a shot I changed my mind. She showed me how to do it.

He left out one of the worst symptoms. Demetria like symptoms and psychotic break down. Just went through it with my mother inlaw. She was in hospital for a week. She was tied down in her bed the first night. She was saying the most crazy things. They found out it was low b12.

My advice to you. Health messages should never be drowned out with (annoying or any) music. Let the message speak for itself. Can you imagine a teacher in the classroom explaining something while music is being played in the background. I am tired of everyone having some noise in the background and they are sharing vital information.

Michael read my comment also where I say I’m being treated for deficiency of b vitamins as well!! All you have to do is buy a strong b complex supplement and take it orally and if your energy levels improve and the mental focus as well then you nailed it!! But I also have to say Cofee is bad for concentrating or focus in a big quantity!! Besides the fact that is super addicting because is always combined with sugar!! Perhaps you’d wanna cut down the dependency you have little by little.. start with one cup and a half a day for a week and then go down to one cup but as you do also take something for the headaches !! Also Cofee stays in your body for 8 hours. If you’re taking it in the morning don’t use it passed noon that way you’d get a better sleep and recover faster. Also take your b complex in the morning! With the cup of Cofee!! You’ll feel the jolt !! Good luck to you!!

I've been sharing B12 with my friends in our Amish community: I've really seen a difference! One young lady has liver damage from B12 deficiency (keep in mind the genetic tendencies). My family is also German/Dutch and my Dad also was diagnosed with pernicious anemia. Me: well, B12 has changed my life. I was using a cane until I began to faithfully take B12 daily. Now, my pain has been greatly reduced. I feel incredibly better.

I was also experiencing all this symptoms like fatigue, muscle and joint pain, blurred vision, pale skin so I dicided to visit my dr then got my blood Check done and found out that m vitamin b12 deficient so Currently taking injections and medicines from last 2 weeks I hope that I recover soon 🙏🏻

I've done everything suggested in this video as of 2 years ago. I've become worse. The B12 supplements were rather expensive and the pain in my hands and feet has worsened. My fatigue has intensified. So, my doctor reluctantly decided I am to begin monthly B12 injections this week. I hope it works.

Doctor's are generally not trained in nutrition and therefore are probaly not going to give you correct information. Go see a nutritionist.

From what I've read the issue is largely with people's ability to absorb b12 regardless of dietary choices, so therefore the info in this video to create healthy gut flora in order to aid absorption is sound advice.

Don’t ignore that your body may be producing too much iron. He may have prescribed iron tablet which will only make you worse!

Yes my feet are killing me no mention of the feet I just had blood work for B12 test show that I'm about middle of the road. My feet feel cold every other day some days they are fine other days they kill me. I'm pretty sure it's peripheral neuropathy. But could a vitamin B12 shortage causes this? Oh I also have Parkinsons. Could this be the problem advancing?

You neglected to share that a leading symptom of severe B12 deficiency is neuropathy; burning feet, poor balance and prickles on the skin; all these neurological changes are associated with B12 deficiency. Poor cognition, memory loss and confusion are also symptomatic of B12 deficiency. Also, if an individual has the MHTFR DNA mutation they will probably have malabsorption syndrome which means injections of B12 or even patches worn on the skin are the only reliable ways to increase B12 levels.

This is an excellent reply, all to often the changes in ones feet are the initial signs of B12 defeciency, loss of feeling, burning sensation, a feeling that the skin on the soles of the feet are thick or similar to recovering from an actual burn, Neuropathy is one of if not the major warning sign. Sadly a lay person will not know this and in the worse case scenarios, neurological damage will take place, the eyes may flitter uncontrollably , pins and needles will often be present in different parts of the body especially at the back of the head from ear to ear, loss of ballance, a feeling of being drunk without having taken alcohol. Please, please consult a doctor as soon as possible if these are your symptoms

Depression is a lead diagnostic criterion. I always checked B12 and also calcium levels, particularly in those who couldn't explain their depression.

Sublingual (under the tongue) forms of B12 supplements bypass the usual absorption issues, as the B12 can enter the bloodstream directly due to the rich distribution of surface blood vessels under the tongue.

@@shezasaad4774 Underneath the tongue, there is only a thin layer of skin covering a lot of capillaries and vessels, making it very easy for certain substances to easily pass directly from the mouth into the blood. Certain medications, vitamins, and even glucose can get into the blood directly when held under the tongue. The absorption of dietary B12 has several complex processes to be properly absorbed from the digestive tract, especially for older individuals; taking it sublingually (or by injection!) bypasses those potential difficulties.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) lower the stomach acid and therefore vitamin rich foods couldn't be properly digested so that's possible aswell
