Iceland has more than 10,000 waterfalls so it's nearly impossible to narrow down a top list but I tried! I've traveled all over Iceland in search of waterfalls - the highest, the biggest, the most beautiful, and of course hidden gems. In this video I talk about my TOP 5 favorite waterfalls in Iceland and saved the best for last!

Svartifoss was really awesome because we went swimming in the ice cold water. I also couldn't get enough of Midfoss on the way to Brúarfoss. It was even more blue than Brúarfoss. We sat and just looked at it for like 20 minutes in amazement of the blue waters.

Of the waterfalls I saw when I was there, I would say my favorites were: *Hengifoss* for all of the reasons you mentioned and more. That was a great hike, and it also had *Little Hengifoss* which was cool too. *Seljalandsfoss* since it was so high, and it was fun and interesting to actually walk behind the waterfall itself. *Godafoss* since it reminded me a bit of a mini-Niagara Falls with its "horseshoe" shape, and the fact that you could walk right up to it on either side. Plus that was such a huge volume of water thundering over it, it seemed very powerful. And I guess I'll include *Kirkjufellsfoss* too for the iconic mountain of the same name nearby, in addition to the falls itself. Very scenic.

Did all of them on our trip in 2018 - I remember watching all of your videos and we also used your map. It was such a special trip and thanks to you we felt like we saw so many hidden gems ☺️

Dynjandi was my favorite. Even though it’s such a far drive to get there I would do it again. It takes a whole day to get there, do the short hike and get back to the ring road. Lots of Fjords and dirt roads.

My last 1.5 years in the military were in Iceland. I visited many waterfalls, mostly in southern Iceland including Skogafoss. My favorite was one not listed in this video. It is Gullfoss. Another favorite is called Seljalandsfoss. It isn't the tallest and doesn't have a large volume of water but is unique in that you can walk a path that goes behind the waterfall.

We got to see many when we visited in the Summer of 2021. We camped at Skogafoss and loved waking up near a massive waterfall and having it to ourselves! We did climb to the top and hiked for a while and saw some of the others! Too many beautiful ones to choose from.

Dynjandi is also my favorite. So incredible up close! And so many beautiful cascades off of it below :) thank you Jeannie! That hike behind Skogafoss is on my next bucket list. We started it this summer and didn’t get far but it looked otherworldly and I hope you do a whole video on it!!

I really like the Indiana Jones challenge to get to Glymur, walking through a cave, balance on a log over the river, pull up the cliffs on a chain, and then wade back over the river above the falls to go back on the other side. Such an adventure and the falls are the second highest in Iceland.

My top 5 are Hengifoss, Skogafoss, Seljandafoss, Svartifoss and Godafoss. I unfortunately didn't get to see Dettifoss due to the road being closed in October. Brúarfoss would've ranked higher but the hike felt longer than necessary and waaay too muddy.

Thanks for such a detailed video. I find the information given in your videos is very helpful to plan better Iceland trip. All of these wateralls seems a mustsee attractions. I was wondering if you could help me with small concern. The famous Dettifoss also has a nearby waterfall , which seems better viewed from the east side. Would it be possible to get a view of both these waterfalls, in case we see it from the west side as well ?
@IcelandwithaView
@IcelandwithaView Жыл бұрын
Hi Ketan! Great questions! I prefer getting to Dettifoss from the West side because the road is paved - on the east side it is VERY bumpy and NOT accessible for all cars. And, there are two additional waterfalls near Dettifoss! Check out my Ring Road Travel Guide + Map for specific details and advice for visiting all the main stops, plus my hidden gems, toilet locations, restaurant options, parking lot info, etc. ~ icelandwithaview.com/product-category/diy/ ~ Happy planning!

We stumbled upon Hraunfossar and Barnafossa 2012 ich. BEAUTIFULL! Whent back 2022. Still stunning!! But could not explore as much as in 2012 due to the damage all tourists have made on the grounds and paths at Barnafoss so maby we should not tip more of this BEAUTIFUL falls 😉

Thank you for this video, very informative. I am going to Iceland this summer and will be doing the ring road counter clockwise. Is it doable to drive to Dynjandi from Akureyri then take the ferry to Snæfellsnes in one day? How long are you on the dirt road for to get to Dynjandi? I am having trouble trying to plan Dynjandi into my itinerary due to the logistics of getting there.
@IcelandwithaView
@IcelandwithaView Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! Dynjandi is in the Westfjords and the whole region of the Westfjords is usually an add-on for Ring Road travelers - spending a few days to the explore the Westfjords alone. Be sure to check out my guidebooks and digital maps to help you plan your route (icelandwithaview.com/product-category/diy/). I also have pre-written itineraries, one in particular which includes the Ring Road, Westfjords, and Snaefellsnes (icelandwithaview.com/product/14-day-itinerary-rr-gc-snaef-wf/). In short, I would NEVER recommend driving from Akureyri to Dynjandi & then the ferry - way too long of a day, you'd have to miss so much in North Iceland and in the Westfjords, and you're limited by the ferry schedule. Happy planning!
@Lisa-Tahiti

@@IcelandwithaView Ok. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. If I was to go to Dynjandi the map shows that 60 is a paved road for most of the way then it shows some part of it is unpaved. Do you happen to know how long you would be driving on the unpaved road? This is my only concern in trying to get there. I am afraid of the unpaved road.

I guess one reason people are drawn to waterfalls is because they slid out of one from their mother's wombs. Maybe it's a primal instinct?
