Your advice about smiling is spot on. I live in a small town with only a dollar store, gas station and grocery store to shop at but I recently discovered that when I stop and start talking to people in a friendly way they act like they've known me forever and they are friendly and actually helpful if you ask questions, like what would they choose in order to eat healthy. People love a cheerful person and I think it brightens their day when someone takes the time to smile and act friendly. And it makes me feel good too!

On the flip side too short of a wig can be aging making some women look matronly. Layers around the face at any length makes the difference. I love your positivity ! Hey Taz, the style you are wearing today is very "Farrah" and I love it!!! Your tips, especially re-evaluating how we've changed is crucial. I feel beautiful, just a little faded version of myself. So.. I must enhance my thinning eyebrows and use undereye concealer. And I play with my dog everyday! Taz, your videos have really helped me in my wig journey and your bright, positive presence is an inspiration to me.❤

Sometimes you can book an appointment with a modern hair salon, with the color specialist, and pay for 1/2 hour of their time to go through your wigs, or wigs online you are thinking about, and they will suggest the best colors and styles for you. I did this last month and it was totally worth it. I've done this with friends too, but the color specialist can really work fast and see things right away. Now I know exactly what to look for and what to wear from the wigs I already have. Great video, Taz!

@@colleentodd8818 well I'm a natural dark-haired brunette. I went blonde and I have bought at least 15 wigs in various shades of blonde not really knowing which ones were my best. I had very cool blondes, somewhat warm blondes, a bunch of bobs that really were mistakes for me because I look better with slightly longer hair. So I walked into a local upscale salon and asked if I could talk to the color expert. Looking at her hair color and everyone else in the salon I decided they knew what they were doing. So I asked if I could come in with all my wigs and she could help me assess the right color and styles. I made an appointment, brought in most of my wigs, I think there were about 12 and I made a list and made notes as she made her points. The price was about a third of what I would spend on most wigs. She saved me a lot of money. I now know not to choose very cool blondes nor very warm blunts, but the ones that have a little of both with highlighting. I also found out that us women get older they need some structure against the face to replace the structure they had when they were young and I also found out that Bob's are usually too severe, but maybe that was just for me. Believe it or not I ended up with a very inexpensive wig as one of her favorites which was Jackson. I think you just have to make sure you're going to a very upscale salon where they do a lot of color. I'm glad you found this helpful!

Oh Taz! I know I watched this a year ago when you posted it, but it did me a world of good to re-view it this morning. Such great tips for all of us mature gals. I'm never going to look 25 (or 35 or 45 or 55- YIKES!) again, but I can try to be my best self as I age. I think that's why I prefer a shorter style wig (most of the time!); it's timeless, not too full or dense, and if I get the color right, I always look appropriate. Thanks so much for all of your insights.

Taz, I researched this because it came up as a suggestion. Even though I'd seen it before, some struggles I've had, feeling like Id aged 10 years in the past 4, had really caused me to stop posting pics of myself in wigs in the groups, in a way to support & encourage others. ID never felt this way about myself before. So, I gathered up my courage, apologized for no make up and looking sickly and posted it. To my COMPLETE SHOCK, what ID been told my whole life, was being told to me by over 100 people who'd never known my history. They all said they never would have guessed I was 51, that if I looked like my mid to late 20's sick and no makeup, then I must be doing something right, lol! Yet the last couple months due to decreased liver& kidney function and being human, I slipped back into some self doubt. This video suggestion today (Thanksgiving which is hard because I'm alone as well), reminded me to not stay in that place, to always refocus on the many blessings we all have, even on the hardest days and to not be so hard on ourselves! Thank you for this video. Though it may not be the feedback you expected, it was very meaningful to me and helped me have a refreshed outlook! God bless and I hope your holiday was beautiful!

Hi Taz. Couldn’t agree more. Straight flat wigs look absolutely horrible on more mature women. I love my Cameron but I had to trim a little off the bottom, trim bangs, and put some rollers in the top to add some height. I love permatease because it adds that fullness and lift to the top without you having to tease it. I wish more wig makers would add it to the top. It would make styling so much easier. And why do wig makers make a low density wig? We’re already suffering from low density! 😂

I would add to your list - wigs that are too flat, lay too close to the head or look like a helmet. Even if they don’t make you look older, it can look unflattering as heck! And also, try to embrace the flyaways cuz it makes a wig look natural . . .

I think that thinning out wigs is the BEST thing for making a wig look completely natural. Most wigs have way too much hair out of the box! Thinning scissors are so easy to use! Just go slow and work in small sections. I use them on my fake ponytails and find it made them so much lighter and easier to wear!

Wonderful advice and SO IMPORTANT to remember as we age. One of my favorite things or phrases to leave when posting on a social media platform regarding myself or someone else is: Share your smile!! It may be the only one a person gets today and often you’ll get one in return!! And the BEST part is THEY’RE F-R-E-E!! I find it discouraging when women buy a new wig and post it on Facebook with the bangs cut straight across. That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. Or they put them up for sale after being chopped. Sometimes I think, 'well, I might have bought it but now that the bangs are gone I'm really not interested.' Using thinning shears or a razor to soften the ends while leaving them a bit longer can make all the difference, especially if you're not sure if you're going to keep it. I have been admiring Mia in Mimosa HL for a long time! I had no idea it would be so light in the front. Lovely! Happy day to you, Taz! : ) Letter J wig??

@@TAZSWIGCLOSET I’ve learned so much from you over this past year! I am somebody who has a little OCD and cuts my hair all the time. I have a really short gray pixie, and I’m trying to let it grow out to see if I like myself gray. In the meantime I have some really pretty pixies and mid length styles that I really loved. I’ve learned to adjust, thin and re-style them, and I’ve learned it all from you! Thank you so much 👍🙏❤️

⭐️ TY for sharing your helpful tips and inspiration thru positivity; it's much appreciated. I couldn't help but notice that unit behind you, labeled "S". It looks very "Jane Fonda-ish". I could really see her wearing something like that style 🥂

Thank you for pointing these things out! On Facebook groups I see photos of aging women wearing really straight styles with such low density so that they cannot get the height they need in the right places to truly flatter their faces. 'Straight' on aging faces can still work, but seems like in the real world that's more the exception than the rule.

Hi Taz, great upbeat advice and reminders all. I would add to loosen up the wig, especially shorter hair. Tight sculpting doesn’t look like real hair. (Except heavily hairsprayed hair!) It looks like helmet head. Wigs look better without every hair in place. Of course you really make this point in every video, and in the styling sections. You’re the best, always so encouraging and uplifting! I love you lots my friend. Thank you for putting good into our world. ❤️ Sharon xo

The "time warp" tip really resonates with me! I see so many older women who wear the same style they wore 40 years ago and it just looks so silly. For example, an 83-yr-old friend at church with short, jet-black hair and a thick white streak on the front left. It is so not flattering to her skin, and honestly: We all think "skunk" when we see her. She is really stuck! Sad.

I love your tips on wig wearing. I’m basically new at it so any tips on hot weather sweating problems..how to keep the wig from sliding? The only thing I’ve read are applying wig glue, which I don’t think would be good for the wig itself.

Hi, Taz, my friend. Good subject! I'm trying to figure out a style that is sort of like JR January or shorter, but not too short. It's just so hard, not much to choose from that is not a full-on pixie. If I find one, then the brand has no colors for me. It's a challenge! I don't want to be stuck in a rut! A huge smile does make a big difference in how people react to you! You're a real peach, sweet lady. ~Cynthia

Hi Cyn! I always love your comments! It IS A CHALLENGE! Gee.. I am wondering if a shorter wavy style by Belle Tress might work? A Kona or Bon Bon? You will NEVER be in a rut.. you are like me.. always moving ahead to make things better! Love and hugs! XOXO
@frontporchwigchat6260

You are right on the money, as usual! I adore Kona! I tried it in Cream Soda Blonde, just a bit too bright/light for me, lighter than my JR Martini. I think I want a Kona in Roca Margarita to try next. I prefer that one to Bon Bon because it has an extended nape, fits better since they're a bit roomy, but I do love Belle Tress fibers. At this point in time, January and Kona seem to be the easiest lengths for me, but you always make me covet a cute, shorter style-they look so pretty on you! One of these seasons, maybe someone will introduce the perfect one for me to try. Take care and have a wonderful weekend, my friend! 💖
