The definitive countdown of the VFL/AFL's Top 50 goals of all time. Of course, due to the nature of televised games and the saturation of our sport in the last two decades, many of these goals come from the late 90s, 2000s and beyond.
Naturally, this is a subjective view and I'm sure you disagree with some of these goals or perhaps felt that I missed out a few great goals, so feel free to comment with your suggestions. Goals are ranked based on difficulty, flair, distance, time of the game and general public perception.
Sources for this video were mostly the "Greatest Goals of All Time" DVDs, editions 1 & 2. Goals not on that DVD were found on KZfaq. Footage copyright of Sports Delivered and the Australian Football League.

Gary Ablett Srn in the 1989 Grand Final, taking the ball out of the Boundary Throw In, in the Pocket, then snapping a Goal, has got to be close to number 1.

Ablett's goal at no.19 was the best of the lot. Almost takes a great grab at centre half forward, recovers, fights off 2 opponents, breaks a tackle and goals on the run post-high from 50 out with a wet ball and in the mud! That goal craps on Hird's goal.

Any of Tom Boyd's goals from the 2016 grand final could count for this. Especially that last one when Toyd scooped up the ball after it spilled free when Dale Morris tackled Buddy. "The stadium holds its breath..." I was there and will never forget how the noise went from being silent as the ball bounced through to the noise of 85 000 people screaming ( the Sydney fans were pretty quiet) in delight as they realized that 62 year wait was coming to an end. apart from the birth of my kids its the greatest moment of my life. Actually now that I think about it, I have two kids and one premiership. Nah, fuck it, the kid's will understand-that WAS the greatest moment of my life!

#50 stuart dew's goal against Hawthorn was in 2005, #24 Aaron Davey's soccer goal against Brisbane was in 2006, #35 Steve Johnson's amazing soccer goal against Richmond was in 2005, #34 Wayne Carey's unbelievable boundary goal was in 2003,

That voluminous compilation Astounded me. Sure There were some that I wouldn’t put there. Whatever. Anchovies or olives or pineapple on pizza bro. But the last 4 goals? Seriously I cried. Because yessssssssss There IS a GOD. I remember ALL those perfect goals. And was only 5 years old watching it on channel 7, back in the day, when there was only 3 tv channels on. I couldn’t fathom that kick. And still today, one can “study” the magnificent magnanimous punt that Blighty chose. It was lost off the boot. The ball went around the world and then across the universe. One day? When life is on Mars? They’ll identify it.

Best goal I ever saw was Ted Whitten, at the Western Oval, circa about 1968, maybe a little later, rain pouring down, Teddy has the kick in the centre of the ground, the ball back in those days would have weighed almost a ton, waterlogged to the max, and he kicked a torp right through the middle. All in glorious black and white on the ABC replays at 6pm on Saturday night.

James hirds goal wasn’t that great, maybe Carey’s goal in the 98 GF, or Lloyd’s goal vs North Melbourne (same game as when Carey boomeranged the goal). It’s always hard doing a list like this, you did well though. Major pluses was no music, no intro, or annoying voiceovers (like I’ve seen in a lot of videos that voiceovers kills what could be a great video). You did a great job

Good list, well done. I don't think Hird or Bosustow should have made the top 50 though. Hird's goal was almost a regulation snap. I get that he'd played an amazing last quarter and won it off his own boot, but there's been a lot more difficult goals kicked than that. Given that, did Blight make top spot because of the goal, or because it was a kick after the siren to win the game? Because I'd argue Fehring's goal was better. Or even Brendan Lade's torp (which didn't make the list). All very subjective stuff, but thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

My top ten in no particular order - #43 Stephen Milne, #36 Ablett Junior, #32 Michael Long, #31 Eddie Betts, #21 Brendan Fevola, #15 Daniel Motlop, #12 Wayne Carey, #7 Nick Davis, #3 Daniel Wells, #2 Peter Daicos. Not to mention the miraculous goal that Tony Hall once kicked in a State of Origin match against Victoria from deep in the right forward pocket at Football Park?
