the 10 5 2 as a last pick is fine if you're going to take the space on the board and point left. That way you're guaranteed to get one of the two spots. But by not point left, you just give orange the winning setup and a free uncontested triple hex spot. You can't leave the ore wheat sheep player with so much space on the board.

9 10 2 second placement is absolutely insane

I know you wanted the settlement spot but it was always 9/10/11 for the second settlement. You have all the ore.. Try to go to ore port .. With best brick and port you might be able to take the Longest road too or atleast sneak it.. You had to neutralize orange by taking that.

After the mono, the play is double city + road settle. You are never getting army from orange, and this way you at least have a chance at another city/vp pull the following turn

Good decision on going to the finish line over the city or lottery ticket. 3:1 is such great resource value. First thing needed once you have a city to shift resources for everything

I think 6 3 11 is a better second pick cause Generaly defensiv picks are much worse in 4 player and 9 10 2 is worse wood brick and no sheep this pick is imo a huge blunder

I also think blocking off the 9 ore was the best move. Coordinated 9s are very strong when they have so much ore wheat - after 4 settle its just an easy win even without army. They also pulled a road building as their first or second dev and that helped them secure settle spots and easily city them for a win. The 11s rolled a lot as well. All in all a good example of why coordinated OWS setups are so freaking tough to beat. You have to place defensively imo.

An anecdote that happened to me. a player had a very strong position, and we solo blocked him to the point where he disconnected. And since we left the bot alone, the bot won the game

I really liked that settle first. I have seen you often forgo important settle spots for dev cards and some good trades but I don't necessarily agree with your explanations. This was one time I 100% agreed on your choice of settlement instead of city. Also, more often that not, when playing an OWS setup it is really important to secure your one road settle spots almost always.

Don't understand why 3,10,11 and point right wasn't considered. You start off w/ the sheep and wood and you'll eventually get the 9 ore, don't need to start on it. And if you're gonna take 2,9,10 should point left to cut off the potential 4,9,11 placement by orange.

How did Orange get that many roads with that setup I don't think their setup was strong as what DyLighted says When I get that kind of setup I get plowed twice and am lucky to get 1 settlement

Why wouldnt you use the ore from mono to double road settle and plough blue on the 6,2?

So i am confused why 1092 road wasnt to the left? Ismt part of stopping strong ows plowing potential settlememts? In order for you to have a reasonable chance, you need the 3 for 1 and 1092 to 31011. Maybe you can make a deal with blue where you give your starting wheat and wheat from your next 10 for his wood on the 10 for help to get to 3 for 1. Or a chance to plow orange all the way to wheat port which is what you initially wanted. The 52 ultimately doesnt slow oranges game and that is the problem with this idea. You say the table wont work with you because ots a ranked game. But if you present it as you want to give blue your wjeat in exchange to plow orange all the way through to wheat port, it looks much more like a managable situation as ypu and blue put each other into winning positions which hurts orange pretty badly. Pointing 1092 left may not incentivize orange to even point down. Meaning the win condition you wanted orange to have is now a realization with blue and black in the road race which you can influence to extemd the game and you can happily btt to win the game..

I think you blundered placing on the 9/10/2 instead of locking out orange from triple ore by not taking 11/9/10 instead.

In other words you can't be objective about who is ahead, if you participate in the game as a player. You can have an objective opinion only as a viewer, and with the names of the players hidden. Also notice that "objective" doesn't equal "correct". An opinion can be both objective and wrong at the same time.

Bad decision to lock into buying lottery tickets after placing settlement #4. Always be alert to winning opportunities that are not lottery based. Assess are there other winning options. If not commit to gut. Confidently.

tbh, I don't think orange setup was that OP. of course it was good ows but no way winning by itself, considering it was just 3 resources and very little sheep. Had to nail RB first to secure his ports, and then hitting 11 repetedly to allow for multiple devs, which was lucky. Otherwise he would not have won, most likely.

Love the gameplay, but why are you table talking the viewers 🤣 They did exactly the right thing to slow you down, at the end you had the knight for army, if you don't get robbed in the beginning then you just win earlier. The only surprising thing about this game is that the table switched to orange when they did, usually you see gang rob go on much longer and you end the game in a much worse position and not one turn away from winning.

Catan has to be played until11 points, then it minimizes the effect of dice
