I'm surprised ALIENS, LIFEFORCE and THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD did not make the list. A few favorites of mine from the 1980's.

I have been a defender of Halloween 3 for such a long time it thrills me that you have an appreciation for that movie. It is certainly the most"Halloween" of all the Halloween movies. It also brings a huge smile to my face that you love RoboCop so much. Having been a kid in love with horror in the 80s these films are so nostalgic to me. Appreciate your channel and all that you do bringing attention to the greatest genre!

I've been binging your videos the last couple of days because I appreciate the genuineness. You have your own opinions on movies, not trying to pander to the norm of what's expected to be ranked high. Like when I heard Evil Dead 2 at 49, my DISAGREEE light came on. That's a subscription for me, dawg. I'd love to see a Universal Monsters ranking sometime. Especially if you can stomach the 30 something movies of the time. Stay spooky.

I remember the whole 3-D craze for movies in the theater during the 1980s (complete with those ridiculous blue/red cardboard glasses); even the horror films (especially sequels) got in on the trend, with "Jaws 3," "Friday the 13th Part III," and "Amityville 3-D" to name a few

Good list. I haven't really given much thought to my list, but movies that instantly came to mind that were not on your list include From Beyond, The Gate, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Pulse, and Near Dark. I can't say for certain if they would all be in my top 50 without rewatching them, but they are nostalgic movies for me.

Definitely good choices here. I totally agree with "Evil Dead 2,", I am a huge horror fan but, I literally watched the original "Evil Dead," only a few years ago. I just watched "Christmas Evil" this December, it was good but you have to take in to account you're watching it for the first time 40 years later. Pet Semetary was pretty true to the book as I remember it. ZELDA still one of the creepiest horror characters of all-time! LOL

I have a love/hate relationship with 80s horror.. it's honestly my least favorite decade for horror and a majority of the films that have replay for me personally are mindless slashers lol.. Halloween 4 is my favorite horror film from the 80s if we're being honest.. I love it so much.. there's so much I love about it, but the best part is honestly the opening credits scene with the ominous music in the background, you can't capture the essence of fall in the middle of nowhere better than that, talk about setting the tone for a film! I actually think Halloween 1978 and Halloween 6 do a great job of capturing October in the Midwest.. yeah you can see a palm tree in Halloween 1978, but that neighborhood 100% feels like any neighborhood in any Midwest suburb during October, so credit to John Carpenter for that.. Halloween 2 is great.. it's a little claustrophobic but it has the best tension and suspense in the entire franchise besides the original.. The Shining is technically the best horror film that I've seen from the decade.. masterclass filmmaking.. Sleepaway Camp is waaay better than it has any business being.. I obviously love the OG A Nightmare on Elm Street, but the older I get the more I lose interest in it.. the opening 20 minutes is masterclass horror.. the score is perfect.. I love Nancy and Heather Langenkamp, but I'm still not sure how I feel about her performance after all these years.. she's great and iffy at the same time lol.. NOES The Dream Master is awesome.. it's not "scary" but it's fun.. I love Alice, she's one of my favorite final girls.. Lisa Wilcox is great, she really makes me invested and root for Alice.. and it being considered the MTV generation film of the franchise definitely adds to its charm.. no way that should ever be considered a negative thing lol.. Jason Lives is the best Friday film imo.. it's also considered the MTV generation film of the Friday franchise.. it has everything that you could possibly want from a Friday the 13th film.. Megan is the GOAT but Tommy is annoying lol.. The OG Friday the 13th has grown on me over the years.. I always respected it but considered it overrated.. but these days I really appreciate everything about it more than I ever have.. Friday the 13th Part 3 is my 2nd favorite film in the franchise idgaf.. it's a campy masterpiece, whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant lol.. I'm also a strong believer that the Part 3 theme should've become the official Friday the 13th theme song.. Gremlins is a classic and I loved it as a kid.. don't love it as much these days, but I'm still a huge fan of Gremlins 2.. I've always considered Gremlins 2 the superior film.. Warner Bros wanted a sequel so bad they tripled the director's pay and gave him 100% creative control.. it's a batshit crazy satire that's meta and self aware, it's like a middle finger to the industry, classic film.. I was obsessed with Poltergeist when I was younger.. it's obviously great, I love the parents and the family dynamic.. JoBeth Williams was perfect, so was Craig T. Nelson.. but it's one of those films that gives me sad and depressing nostalgia, so I usually like to just let that film be and just appreciate the times I had with it lol.. I'm with you on the first 2 Evil Dead films.. I respect the craftsmanship and I get why they're cult classics, but those films are soo not for me.. haven't seen any of the others.. One of the most underrated films from the 80s is the controversial Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.. masterclass film and critically acclaimed, but it has some brutal stuff and it can be hard to watch for some.. it's grimey as fuck, feels cheap, and maybe even gratuitous or misogynistic at times, but it's "art" and "cinema", it's truly well crafted and shot well.. not sure if you'd like it or not, but Michael Rooker gives an insane performance in his film debut..

As much as I love Halloween 2, Friday The 13th parts 2 & 4 and ANOES but Michele Soavi’s Italian slasher StageFright tops them all it’s a diamond-in-the-rough so criminally underrated and deserves more attention, Irving Wallace aka Owlface is right up there with Jason, Michael, Freddy, Chucky, Ghost-face and Art The Clown. Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it

I would love to see you do a top 10 or 20 top Horror movies of the Silent Era (1900-1930) Some real nightmare feuk there, especially the Derman Expressionist stuff

This was an amazing list. Even though there are some movies that I haven't seen on your list, this was really great. Another thing that I know you've mentioned before that I agree with is if there is one thing that I really love about these old movies, it's just how incredible the posters are. I mean just looking at the posters for the movies you mentioned in this are just so unique and beautiful. But besides the movie posters, I kind of miss when movies used to have a certain vibe like 80s and 90s movies. But I loved this! Thanks so much for this Kylie!

Great list. I'm glad you were able to watch Night of the Creeps. Thats been a favorite of mine for a very long time. One movie rom the 80's I never hear anyone bring up is The Beast Within. One of the coolest monster transformations I've ever seen. Many people will probably be turned off by the rape scenes, but you understand how things came to play out. If you can get past those scenes you are in for a treat. Not the greatest horror movie of all time, but it is definately worth watching. I love the creepy atmosphere this movie creates.

This is a great list! I love Paul Verhoeven's films, Robocop and Starship Troopers are aging like fine wine! I think the most notable ommisions if you haven't seen them and worth adding to any watchlist would be Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Day of the Dead, Near Dark, The Burning, Vamp...but most of all The Changeling...I ADORE that films, truly incredible and under appreciated! What a decade, love 80s horror!

Superb list. Your top 10 I mostly would include for my top 10, as well. The films you didn't include in a top 50 from the 80's that I would have added are: Frankenhooker, Basket Case, Re-animator, The Gate, The Hidden, Dreamscape, Near Dark, Strange Invaders, The Stuff, and Cat's Eye.

If you loved Poltergeist you should watch The Changeling from 1980. Spielberg actually screened that film for the cast and crew of Poltergeist during its production, saying that this was the vibe he wanted. Those two movies are IMO the best supernatural-horror films of all time.

This was a lot of fun remembering these movies. I enjoyed all of them. The 80s had many horror movie gems. Great list and great video.

Hi, I can't remember when I started watching your videos but I have been a big fan ever since. I love your personality in your vids. I just watched this video in particular after work and was surprised when u did the cut in to talk about Night of the Creeps! You got a lot more points for that. I loved that movie and have been a big fan of it for a long time, I even own it on DVD I think, got to recheck lol. I liked quite a few of the movies in your list, not sure when I will put up my own I am actually looking into maybe streaming myself. Not sure where to start but will look it up and hope it's not too complicated or out of my budget to start it up lol. Anyways I would like to give you two movie suggestions, Spookies and Waxwork. Spookies I think is hard to find now but I enjoyed it, it has so much going on! Waxwork also has a lot in it and just touches on so much stuff, the story is interesting and different as well or at least I thought so when I first saw it. Waxwork has a sequel, it was ok to me but really liked the first one. I might actually give Waxwork another try soon though and I will at least give it credit that it picks up where the first movie left much like Halloween 2 did.

You shed some light on the meaning behind the "Slumber party massacre" movies and gave more meaning to the "Drill-Her" killer. I love horror and always watch these movies at face value and never delve into the meaning and messages behind them. I usually assume there isn't one. Haven't watched Night On Elm Street Part 3 and Night of the Creeps since shortly after they came out, I'm hoping they hold up.

I'm not up to the emotionally draining challenge of ranking 50 movies. How about my favorite movie from each year? 1980 - The Shining 1981 - An American Werewolf in London 1982 - Poltergeist (but ... The Thing really needs some attention, too.) 1983 - The Dead Zone (but ... Psycho II is suprisingly good.) 1984 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 1985 - Fright Night (but ... I also really like Return of the Living Dead) 1986 - Aliens (but ... I also want to pick Little Shop of Horrors) 1987 - Evil Dead II 1988 - They Live 1989 - The 'Burbs

Great List, some of these movies I haven’t seen, so will have to check them out, and my list would look differently obviously, but my top 5 would be Terminator, Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing and American Werewolf in London. That transformation is sensational and still stands up to this day. If you like dark comedies you should check out Brain Dead ( think it’s called Dead Alive in the US ) it’s by Peter Jackson before he did Lord of the Rings. If Matinator watches Terrifier, you need to film his reaction to THAT scene😅. Keep up the great work.❤

Absolutely love it whenever someone mentions Pumpkinhead as one of their favorite horror movies. That was actually the first ever horror movie I watched after begging both of my parents for MONTHS. I was 10 when I just happened to catch a glimpse of the cover art for the VHS and thought that Pumpkinhead had such a cool and creepy design and I just wanted to know more, and I cannot count the number of times I would alternate between looking at the cover and reading the back of the box. One glance and I knew that I HAD to see this movie no matter what, and I wasn't going to stop asking until I did. My dad finally caved much to my mom's chagrin and we watched it together And it was unbelievably gory and Pumpkinhead was unbelievably creepy and scary as all hell to my 10 year old mind and I absolutely fell in love and have been a MASSIVE horror fan ever since

Great list. There are really only a few I would exclude, and the ones you left off that would be high on my list (Evil Dead and Re-Animator) you at least mentioned and just don't dig, so fair enough... but no Aliens? Aliens would probably be my number 2, behind The Thing at 1. And Evil Dead 2 would be like 3. Still, solid list and pretty sure Aliens is an oversight. Some people try to say it's not horror, but if RoboCop and Terminator fit (and I agree that they do), then so does Aliens. I would probably have The Gate and Night of the Demons on my list, too.

Kylie, another exceptional video. I've a soft spot for anything by John Carpenter. I liked The Fog. The Thing ranks up there. Definitely top 10. Aliens, released in 1986, ranks up there too. Halloween III is an underrated classic. I liked that they were going for something different. I also have a soft spot for George Romero's Day of the Dead.

At current, these are my Top 80 Horror Films of the 1980's. (Because 50 just... isn't going to cover it. No way.) Part 2 = 40-1 40. _Basket Case_ - the ending is all kinds of messed up but, before that, it was a super charming Grindhouse tribute 39. _Silver Bullet_ - super exciting, heart racing little werewolf nostalgia yarn told in flashback time jump narration 38. _Halloween III: Season of the Witch_ - Tom Atkins the middle aged sex symbol plus lots of maximum eerieness in music and cinematography 37. _The Company of Wolves_ - metaphor rich, fairly tale-esque parable heavy bedtime story challenging patriarchal sexual taboos 36. _Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan_ - the franchise's most valid attempt at establishing pathos, character building, and backstory 35. _The Dead Come Home_ - very underseen Troma acquisition about college-aged 20-somethings who purchase a haunted house and find out the hard way the living dead who once resided there are still roaming the estate 34. _From Beyond_ - colors, colors, more colors! Fascinating super-biological, interdimensional vortexery, creature feature slime time and S&M 33. _The Lost Boys_ - I hate to be LGBTQ+ and whine about _Twilight_ but it really is terrible. This film is the _Twilight_ that actually works 32. _Sleepaway Camp_ - transgressive, groundbreaking, provocative... a little inexplicable and strange but always cooking up subversion 31. _Fright Night_ - too straight and a little dorky to be perfect or counter-culture but oddly satisfying, undeniably appealing, very entertaining 30. _The Hitcher_ - 80's Americana... which translates to heavy artillery-oriented ultra-violence, crash and burn existentialism and lots of anxiety 29. _Prom Night_ - painfully underrated, poignant slasher gem with elegant murders, a gender-bending killer, nail-biting tension, tons of style and terrific music 28. _Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2_ - irresistible pop crime horror with a mix of delirious, schlocky comic elements and stellar psychological details in the life story accounting of a serial killer with a troubled childhood 27. _The Changeling_ - an emotionally grim and stark ghost story with a touch of radical left wing politics; a tale of woe and accountability 26. _Re-Animator_ - follow the bouncing megalomaniac; an acquired taste but highly rewarding to the palette once acquired 25. _Christine_ - the male Carrie? No: a deeply haunting character study with unbelievably far-reaching implications / accusations against the societal formation of the American nuclear family unit 24. _Phenomena_ - Argento's brilliant take on the parapsychological relationship between humans and insects against the backdrop of a Swiss Alps-marauding murderer 23. _A Nightmare on Elm Street_ - generational gap tensions between parents and children widen as a teen-killing nightmare stalker exposes things his victims' parents wanted to remain hidden 22. _Hellraiser_ - some women weren't cut out to be housewives... 21. _Creepshow_ - morally wayward _Tales from the Crypt_ inspired anthology with the most atmosphere-dripping tales of monster mania ever told! 20. _Inferno_ - Argento's brilliant take on deadly supernatural hysteria breaking out after a lunar eclipse and a secret book full of malevolent magic is passed around New York 19. _Bad Taste_ - aliens land in coastal, small town New Zealand and slaughter the local population for human meat in their outer space fast food franchise only to encounter resistance from out of town investigators armed with machine guns 18. _The Lair of the White Worm_ - Ken Russell's serpentine-vampire religious horror opus with copious psychosexual humor and tonally chilly dream imagery 17. _Evil Dead 2_ / _Dead by Dawn_ - definitely more humorous horror than plain horror but the level of ingenuity reached in this runtime is only to be studied and admired 16. _The Return of the Living Dead_ - surprisingly dark, gruesomely gripping, and occasionally bone chilling party horror flick with world class gore and a ripping punk soundtrack; basically, it's the American _Rabid Grannies_ 15. _The Howling_ - the 80's return of late 60's, early 70's kaleidoscopic, phantasmagoric Fever Horror with a fully loaded ambitious annex mix of media satire, psychological study of the effects of trauma on memory loss, pop fad replacements for religion, class commentary, and city crime commentary... It's a spicy meatball, any way you slice it! 14. _Opera_ - Argento's brilliant take on the loss of connection to humanity and what he termed at the time as the death of love following the AIDS crisis against the backdrop of a killer stalking the cast of an Italian theater ensemble's production of _Macbeth._ 13. _Killer Klowns from Outer Space_ - a sneaky under the counter commentary on the nefariousness of rampant 80's consumerism, suggesting (among many things) a cultlike reliance on material goods; one of the most underrated films of the decade 12. _The Fog_ - John Carpenter's brilliant take on the dangers of blind patriotism, jingoistic ignorance of the evils of colonial settlers [Etc] 11. _Poltergeist_ - Tobe Hooper's brilliant take on the evils of the housing market in prioritizing the interests of raging capitalists over the peace of America's land and families ehhhh, I've said enough. Movies not mentioned: * 1987 The Gate- Tiny baby Stephen Dorff’s first movie! Incredible physical effects including some of the most fun stop motion. * 1989 Society- I can’t even begin to describe this, but watch it! * 1980 Motel Hell- NEVER enough love for 80s campy cannibalism. * 1988 Paperhouse- Dark Fantasy? No Beetlejuice? No Aliens?

New subscriber here. Just found your channel and binging a lot of videos. I've seen enough of your videos to know that Hannibal Lecter is your favourite villain. Speaking of the 80s, have you ever seen the 1986 film Manhunter directed by Michael Mann. It's an adaptation of The Red Dragon and features the very first appearance of the Hannibal Lecter character (spelled as Hannibal Lektor in the film for some reason), played by Brian Cox who you may know from Succession. His portrayal is very different from that of Anthony Hopkins but absolutely chilling. Less showy perfection and more subdued chilliness. If you haven't seen it yet I would highly recommend a viewing. It is more thriller than horror IMO so it may not show up on a future horror list but it's one of the most underrated. movies of the 80s.

A great list in this video of all the best 80s horror movie's and Army of Darkness is my favorite of the Evil Dead franchise That got me into the genre like evil dead 2 and Ash vs series and friday the 13th part 7 is the biz for me too but i would Include The Fog 1980 in this video too.

So much to chew on and to take a bite at. Watched while eating lunch. Going to have to watch it again with pen and paper. Thanks for pointing out stuff I was not aware of but hey that’s why I’m here. Many of these movies I watched in the theaters when they came out. Poltergeist over The Thing 🤨 Ok I can give you that one. 🙂 Yes the 80s had a lot of good ones. Once again I’ll have to watch and catch up on these after this month. Got to keep on schedule with my October watch list. Again good job. I know it’s your favorite list but I feel a lot of people would have a lot of these movies on their list. Last take, I realize that the 80s was the start of a lot of Horror Franchises. What do you think?

Fright Night kicks ass

Yeah...definitely wanna see that fright night old vs remake comparison. The new one is fun.

Robocop is a true masterpiece of 80s cinema but it’s not a horror film by any means. The same with Terminator.

Unlikely to be on anyone's list but I implore you (anyone reading this), watch 1982's Absurd. A little Italian made slasher with glorious gory kills, an astonishing soundtrack, a scruffy, bearded, hairy chested mountain of a man killer who's hazy motivations are only ever incomprehensively explained, terrible dubbing, useless police, a vigilante priest and a typically fever dream narrative flow that can only be 80s Italian filmmaking. Easily in my top 20
