If Chinese builders had the habit of making their buildings thinner at the top and putting large antennas on them, they would have in their territory the 20 or 30 tallest buildings of the world, with no doubt.

Many of the buildings in the video are signal towers. Are you willing to take the elevator to your home for 10 minutes every day? Besides, isn't third place well-deserved?

Не совсем понятно зачем мерить высоту по высоте шпиля ? Мерить логически надо по крышу последнего этажа, жилого или технического неважно, а палку на крышу можно ого-го какую приставить, это РЕАЛЬНОЙ высоты зданию не добавляет

Very good video, but I am sorry that I have to be a smartass: You made a mistake with the Willis Tower. It is 442 to the rooftop, but including the Antennas, it is over 500 meters tall. But you rendered it as being 442 to the top of the Antennas, which is wrong. Apart from that, amazing video!

Well, technically antennae do not count towards official building height, but spires do as long as they do not exceeded 50% of the building's height. This is from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. (Yes, it's an official organization.) The question as actually gotten so controversial, that they now use 3 methods of measuring building height. 1. Architectural Height, which includes spires, but not antennae as the latter are typically not part of the official structure. (The one I just mentioned earlier, and the one that I personally use.) 2. Height to tip, which includes both. (This one's fair IMHO. I typically 3. Highest occupied floor, which is pretty self-explanatory, but it measures up until the floor-level of the highest occupiable floor of the building. (I personally hate this one. It should be to the highest roof, not floor. If it's to the highest floor, then many tall 1 story buildings suddenly lose like all of their height.)

Большинство из этих зданий - деловые офисы, в которых не надо жить, принимать ванну, выгуливать собачку или гулять с малышом... Балконов нет, здание обтекаемо для ветров, что важно. Нагрузка на несущие конструкции рассчитывается только под стандартную мебель, рояли исключаются. На ночь электричество и давление в водопроводе выключается. Правда, с канализацией (днём) сложнее, т.к. людей там больше. А сколько времени надо, чтобы подняться на свой этаж? Наличие небоскрёбов - верный признак деловой активности. Обслуживание всего домика стоит от 1 до нескольких миллионов В ДЕНЬ! Хотя в США есть жилые небоскрёбы.

Actually what I do like about China's skyscraper is that most of them don't have excessive spike on the top, and the roof is actually the tallest point of the whole construction. 👍👍

Where is the CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario Canada? It is 1815 feet(553) meters. It has been standing and open to the public for approximately 45 years now, way ahead of its time.

Eastern people are more of a show-off than westerners. It is usually way cheaper to just build several 200-300m tall skyscrapers than to make a 700m tall gigantic structure, that needs to move tonnes of materials high into sky with minimal impact on actually usable floor space.

It's rather limit of price and efficiency. You can build higher, but remember that you also need to pump water to the top floors, and it simply takes time to get to the top of the building and later back down.

not really, we can build 1200m or even 1500m buildings if we wanted to. But the issue is it costs a LOT of money. I think within the next 15 years we will get a new tallest tower

Buildings that need to have a spire to surpass another building is cheap eg Petronas > Sears Tower, Merdeka > Shanghai Tower, One World Trade> Zun. The CTBUH should exclude spires if the other building has a higher habitable floor. Or just put spired buildings in a different category like towers ie they can’t be in the category of overall tallest building

This list is incomplete... The CN Tower in Toronto Canada was made in 1975 and the height of it was 1,815 feet and remained the highest standing building until 2009.

The graphic on the Sears Tower (Willis Tower) is wrong. The height of 1450' is the roof height, not the tip of the antennas. The antennas bring the height to 1729'

25 years ago, I could name the top ten tallest buildings in the world. I know very little of the buildings on this list - wild. Asia, particularly China, has really moved up the ranks here. I get the architectural definition of the spire counting as the architectural top, but I always thought roof-top height is what matters, because there are some buildings with a higher top floor than others ranked ahead. For example, the former World Trade Center Twin Towers had the tallest observatory deck of any structure - including the CN Tower. This list would look quite different if these buildings were arrange by top floor/roof height.
