I remember many years ago we were visiting some VERY high profile psytrance producers, friends of ours who had agreed to a sample swap. We were all talking mixing and design but it was like extracting blood from a stone when it came to them sharing anything.. They gave nothing away, it was painful. We were getting hard drives ready so we could do a swap and our whole drives were coppyed across, The drives contained 4 years of home made loops, stabs, efx, risers etc. Where we were given some really lame kicks and a hand full of hats that were about as good as the stock battery files. after asking if that was all we were getting I pulled the drives out and walked away. This was quite common back when I was producing, I grew up in Goa 80's-90's and knew everyone so its not like I was a stranger asking for free stuff. I have known many of the names since I was a toddler. The thing that bugged me more was the unwilling attitude to help those that were born in the Goa trance scean and would obviously be the ones to continue it. DJ's were taught mixing but no shared any producing knowledge. I stopped producing many moons ago as being self taught and getting older making money was a nesesity and the progress was slowing due to time.. with no one sharing techniques it was tiresome getting anywhere as it seemed that many of the producers would prefer the monopoly. So I can not thank dash enough for the work he's doing, the kind of sounds are very very very close to home and I would have done anything for 2% of this in the early 2000's

Now you have it all! And there are so many ways to produce so many styles of music.. VSTs, etc.. It's almost like a cheat code was created over the past 10 years.. If you stayed with it, you probably have some bangin tracks now after 20+ years.. Being broke to practice is very common. I think..? I've taken almost a year off of work to drain my savings and learn about all of this stuff. I'd be selective about whom I gave a fast pass to as the past 8-12 months can easily be condensed into a few lessons from a well organized person. I know some people in the dark scene doing very well, we don't share a lot but there are a couple that will be happy to teach me for some compensation, which I respect as they have decades of experience. Now, you can easily access the sounds from 10 years ago but to continue to be a pioneer is pretty rare, not very many people fully know what they are doing. Dash def does.. I also notice with some YT tutorials, people will actually do patches and such in ways that are close but not exact.. Especially with the bassline.. I've spent so much time trying to figure out how to get good tone, clarity, and space for that staccato but to get it perfect and trancy is still illusive for me.. I think the waveform has a lot to do with it, but I probably need more knowledge on synthesis, in general. Maybe another reason some people hesitate to share is because they want people to experiment on their own and create their own sounds? I recently learned the Nord Lead is a psychedelic powerhouse.. Modular is super powerful too. I am also studying jazz and orchestral music to be able to incorporate it's styles into trance.. Shit is difficult, for sure.. Lol Still can't make a bassline I like.. I have many years of work to do. It's exciting, fun, disappointing, frustrating and so no.. Lots of life lessons coming from music. I'll never be able to stop. @@Maradnus

Must admit, I'm not a psytrance guy but always find something useful in your videos. Great work, thanks for taking the time to inform others, such as myself, who don't always appreciate the sometimes overwhelming capabilities of our software. The upper/lower limit function I found quite useful for sending different modulation to high and lowpass filters to make a more animated and contollable bandpass filter

Awesome masterclass ! Btw on the Poly FX video, I have troubles to reproduce the patch, with the LFO modulating the filter cutoff, I have to let the LFO retrigger at each note to have the different voices being modulated with the different phase of the LFO. If I choose never trigger from note on like yours, all my voices follow the same LFO course, therefore you don't have this floating feeling of each voice's filter cutoff being modulated by a "different" LFO. Not sure if I'm clear here, but my point is when you select trigger from note on, each voice will have it's own LFO running when you trigger it, but when it's never triggered from note on, all the voices follow the same LFO wave.

I don’t know if it’s intentional, but on tip 5 where you show your scale it has a few notes longer then the others which will give them bigger chance to be triggered with a random. This is actually an awesome way to control the randomness and give more chance to the note you would like to be triggered more often.

Hey, now, whilst I haven’t had any personal issues with your thumbnails I must note that this current thumbnail is amongst your best and you should seriously consider it as the template going forward with perhaps paying attention as to what you could play around with e.g maybe Moog style knobs for the eyeballs, the kilohearts logo as eyeballs, etc. That should quell the needless dissent and trolling. EDIT auto erect can’t tell moog from moon.

Just FYI from what I gather from the Kilohearts developers in a livestream they did, even if you set an LFO to an audio-rate speed it will not be updated at audio-rate, the orange-coloured automation connections will only update every buffer or every 64 samples (whichever is smaller). Only the green connections are truly audio-rate (updating every sample). So you should use an oscillator rather than an LFO as your source if you want true sample-accurate audio-rate modulation.

Although I love the simplicity of this synth and what it can do, I’m always out of ideas for some bangin’ sounds. I mean I have an idea what I want to do, its just translating that into the sound in my head but feel I don’t understand enough about sound design yet to do that. Videos like this are very helpful though and I appreciate your efforts!
