My friend was wrongfully convicted of rape and sat 32 years in prison until the women that accused him and got him thrown in prison finally felt guilty enough to tell the truth about how she was mad at him and lied to ruin his life. She was never charged with falsifying police reports or anything, just left alone instead of having to spend the same 32 years in prison and pay restitution to my friend. My friend John unfortunately passed away from stage 4 cancer just a few short years after being released from prison. Rest easy BIG John!! The system needs fixed.

How people are sentenced without physical evidence is beyond me. The judicial system is corrupt. I hope all the people who are wrongly convicted get the justice and compensation they deserve.

Not only do you lose your child, but you get convicted of it, thrown behind bars for over two decades, and sentenced to death?!? How absolutely awful. That detective should have had criminal charges brought against him!!!!!!!!!!

What bugs me incredibly is that many of these people never received compensation for what can only be described as torture. Psychological torture, your identity being smashed, turning the world against you by falsely informing them and then spending years behind bars between the worst that society has to offer. How many people in these situations committed suicide and are not in this video.

Should be a million for every year served. Also the ones that made the false allegations should be made to serve the same amount of time the prisoners served.

The amount of money these people got is a slap to the face. They deserved so much more

I spent 10 years in prison,for something I did(bank robbery)could not be upset at no one but me,,I can't imagine going to jail for all those years for something I did not do...

What makes me angry is all of the compulsive liars are not held accountable at all. Yet if I filed a false police report or made a bogus 911 call, I’d be held liable.

I can understand the joy these people feel when they are set free. I will never understand how they can say thank you for the treatment they received and the torture they endured during their trials. I have no idea what it must be like, so I just don't understand. The payouts are a freaking joke! Payouts should be painful to explain to the taxpayer. Immunity for the crooked investigators and prosecutors is an outrage! The juries that convicted these people should be brought back in to face their victim and be forced to hear what their victim has to say about them.

RIP Khaleif Browder. We will never forget you. Browder, innocent lad held in Rikers Island, brutalized by innates and gaurds, released when ruled he was innocent, he was not compensated, he received no rehabilitation. He commited suicide from the trauma.

That woman lost her child and had to morn his death in prison while his actual killer went free. SICK. The detective should get that same prison sentence. And they wonder why we don't trust the "justice" system.

Being falsely accused - of anything - has always seemed to me to be one of the most horrendous things. The state can be the same as a murdering terrorist in such cases. One of my wisest college teachers advised -- if you are falsely accused -- to hire the most effective law firm to protect your liberty & reputation. Sell everything to raise money to get the best lawyer.

What stands out is that these people were mainly convicted unjustifiable due to evidence that identifies corruption. Absolutely tragic. And as the lady said, "this could happen to you." So scary.

I’m an old ex con and was always guilty of my crimes but MANY times innocent people go to prison because district attorneys too often only want to win their cases no matter what. 100 people were immediately released from death row when DNA evidence came about 😮😮😮

Alot of cases i swear the detectives just pin the crime on who they suspect the most just for the case to be closed and they can receive credit. Absolutely know care for a persons life and freedom.

The compensation is pathetic and reflects the utter contempt and disregard the state holds for its victims. Maybe a minimum starting point of one hundred million would actually give the state officials the motivation to fix the problem in the first place .

What a series of shocking situations that these innocent people have ended up having to spend either their lives in prison or on death row when innocent. It is appalling that so many of the States in the U.S.A either pay no compensation or fight it is shocking and unacceptable. It should be mandatory for all States to pay compensation at a predetermined level.

When I studied criminology we had some case studies of people who were wrongly convicted. For some of them the worst thing about it all was that even after they were let go after years or decades in prison, the people around them didn't believe them. It doesn't matter that their sentence got overturned, they were still guilty in the eyes of the people. They couldn't find jobs, were abandoned by family and friends. Their lives were still ruined, even after leaving prison.

The fact they lived large parts in prison (death row in some cases) is awful, but knowing that the victims and their families did not get justice and that murdered are walking around free just makes this even more disgraceful. I am living this with my husband, my husband in 2015 was arrested for a murder that he didn’t commit there was no DNA no fingerprints and they denied him gun residue test, and he was arrested within an hour of the shooting named Jeff, that who was actually the killer and still is it that turn states evidence saying it was my husband but even a person from the jail cell that Jeff was in admitted admitted that Jeff was in there, boasting about being the killer and the witness from the jail had details of the killing that was never released but because just took a plea deal, I feel like they just immediately wanted my husband to pay even know he was guilty because they couldn’t get actual killer my husband’s been in prison now over eight years and we just want the truth out there and for him to be set free unfortunately, you can’t afford lawyers. This is an uphill battle. he has missed out on his kids lives. His grandkids lives now all because the state of Kansas just wanted someone to pay when it was the truth or not also the lead detective on this case later on a couple years later was fired for corruption, and having people lie on the stand so taking sexual favors to help people not get charges as long as they would do what he asked him to do on the stand until he said free, and the truth is out

Imagine wrongfully imprisoning someone for literal decades and then fighting to not have to pay them a relatively small sum of money and on top of that considering deportation.
