I was riding in Dallas the other day, it was hovering around 104 with a 70% humidity. Even at a constant 80 mph my bike’s temps keep rising and I cancelled the ride and went back home. Scary when you bike can’t cool down under any circumstances.

My dad always preferred highway to city riding. His logic was that on a highway, everyone is going the same direction, and all you have to worry about is staying out of blind spots. In the city, there's pedestrians, slow cars, fast cars, cars making turns in either direction and not looking before doing so, quick lane changes without checking blind spots, etc. And honestly I agree, with the exception of rush hour traffic, freeway riding is significantly less stressful to me than riding in city streets.

It’s like track riding too, although everyone is going as fast as they can, everyone is essentially on the same page and doing the same things together so you have little interaction with each other.

I would agree in theory. Reality is I’ve seen more bike accidents on the highway. But that’s L.A. and no one can drive there

@@Krith220 he actually liked those the least. Animals jumping in the road, bugs, roadkill, narrow, poorly paved roads. The freeway is the most predictable was his logic. Certainly depends on the country roads you're riding, they're not all the same, but the ones he had were too unpredictable for his taste.

After buying my first bike, it was a 40-minute ride through unfamiliar countryside. Immediately fell in love with it. Four months later, I buy my seconds bike. That was a 100+ mile trip back home. Fell for it all over again. Take trips. Even if it's only a 4 hour round trip, you'll have a great time.

@@michaelmurdock4607 My rides are almost entirely state highways and country backroads. The state highways occasionally run through small towns. Those small towns are great for learning to deal with traffic and frequent stops without the ridiculous amount of people.

Been riding around 30 years or so and I've found that the people that say that motorcycles are dangerous are the people that aren't the best drivers themselves and they'd know if they were on a bike, they would die.

In a car there are to much distractions. Radio's , screens , telephone , kids , your wife . Non of that on a bike so it is much safer 🤠

One more thing about no.7, the fear of getting bored. If you're starting to feel bored of something you love doing, take a break from it. This works pretty much for everything, not just riding. Take a few days off, do something else, if you need to get somewhere, drive a car. Odds are that when you go back to your hobby, you're gonna feel a rush of happiness you haven't felt in a long time. (Especially if the thing you love has 2 wheels and a motor lol)

I ride year round in Michigan. 75% of the time the roads are clear and dry. I used to bicycle commute, I did that EVERY day since I had carbide studded tires for the bicycle.

Act is if your invisible, choose the right lane placement, always plan an escape route when stopped behind a car at an intersection, ride your own ride, ride within your ability. That should keep you upright.

Waze has a motorcycle mode that gives better directions suited for bikes. Add in the avoid freeway and avoid difficult intersections options, and a less annoying voice and it's the best option for directions via helmet speakers.

Highway riding is by far the safest/most comfortable type of riding (provided you have a windshield). Everyone travels at the same pace, and in the same direction. You have clear overview, no blind angles, no old grannies pulling out from sideways without looking, no interference or stop lights that can cause drivers to rear end you - and plenty of space to get out of the way if you dont like how people around you are driving. And if you ride 10% faster than the traffic flow, you also ensure that you're being aware of what goes on in front, while not having to worry about what goes on besides/behind you. So many safety benefits of highway riding.

In my experience this is true for the most part, but it must also be remembered that freeway driving feels easy for everyone else, who might fall asleep or figure it's a good time to answer that text. I've always heard it said that we should treat every car as a trained assassin with a bounty on our heads. I don't give them that much credit for intelligence, I think riding on an urban freeway is more like being in a kayak on a whitewater river surrounded by huge floating logs that randomly bump into each other, which we must dodge.

There’s truth to what you say. I just think in my head that everyone else is out to get me wherever I’m riding and act accordingly. It’s working so far. I drive professionally as well so I spend all day out here seeing all the dumb stuff folks do while driving so it makes me doubly cautious when on two wheels.

@@xSynergized thats why I specifically ride 10% faster than flow of traffic. Don't wanna be stuck behind someone, I'd rather keep a steady pace flowing past cars at a reasonable speed. Always look to filter past the cars in front.

I daily my Harley for 15 years 45,000 and never had an accident until recently I was T-boned so my accident wasn’t even my fault. I thought that was a pretty good streak but I’m typically a pretty safe rider.

I'm 60 and have been riding since I was about 13-14. One accident and it was recently on a surface street. Sideswiped in a turn lane, broke my leg. Sitting here jonesing to go for a ride.

Confidence can take you far, but over confidence will stop you hard and quick. There's a lot of different views on what bike you should start with, how you should grow and everything else. You try out and find what you like, and do what you're comfortable with. Learn throttle control, practice your maneuvers, and learn your machine. I went from a vulcan 650 to a GL1500 Goldwing, large jump, but having someone with a goldwing to give advice and just practicing made the 900lb bike feel just as light on the backroads as that 650. Don't comply to what friends, strangers, or family tell you to buy. Do what makes you happy, it's a dangerous hobby so why ride something you didn't want.

I get depressed when I see a traffic jam on a bike. Sometimes I don’t care if filtering isn’t legal, I do it anyway cause those people in cars would too if they were sitting in 100 degree weather for half an hour

When I was a newbie, I would never ride anywhere that I was unfamiliar with. It’s hard enough to ride safely, watching out for the cars that don’t see you. Having to also figure out where to turn or where your going can distract from watching out for potential hazards.

Recently started riding for the first time since I was 9, I'm 37 now, and highway riding turned out to be easy in about 30 seconds. I dumped the bike twice in the first 3 weeks, but I also did 1,200mi in that time so that almost makes sense.

Another fear I had when I started out was that everyone would see me as a "bad boy" "dirt bag" "jackass" and all those other things I'm not and don't want to be when I got a motorcycle, all based on the negative stereotypes I perceive motorcyclists to have. Not a problem at all, turns out none of my friends or family give a shit. Except those that also ride, who were glad to have me join them on motorcycle nonsense.

You have to chug about 3-4 Monsters then right after get on a turbo busa and go wide open in second with only holding yourself to the bike with your hands going superman/surfer style. The wind will help stretch your body.

Also for riding with a passenger, I find it easier to get on the bike before them and let them off 1st, just to keep it stable and avoid an accidental spill. Also just buy the bike. If you already ride, buy another one.

The worst are those "stroads". Those street-road combination that has around a 35mph speed limit and has 2 lanes going each way with a middle lane for turning into parking lots. So much going on and so many blind spots. Statistically, they are also the most dangerous.

@@Blakezilla594 35 mph isnt a stroad. Try 50 mph or even 65. I was taking a female friend down some stroads that that those speeds. I literally went from trying to avoid the highway just to take the scenic route to.. Fuck this stroad, let's take the highway. It's a lot safer.

I’m so glad you covered highway riding. This fear has never even occurred to me, but I hear it all the time. I also hear, “I only wear a helmet on the highway”. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Going in a nearly straight line, with all traffic moving the same direction, even while you’re going 10+ over, is FAR safer than doing 50 in a 25 with Subarus pulling out on you while wearing no gear. WTF are riders thinking? They’re not, so I’m glad they have you to do it for them. 👍🏽

I always ride on the side of caution. I always ride in full gear even on hot days, I always try to give other vehicles a wide berth and I am always looking for the escape route in the event of an emergency. I've been riding for about a year now with 2000 miles under my belt, and I only dropped my bike once when I was practicing a U-Turn in front of my house when I was first starting. So far I'm doing great, stay vigilant.

Always remember, just because it's a curve doesn't mean it's meant to be taken fast or knee dragging heavy lean angle. Alot of curves are slow, some heavy radius decreasing. They will be boring, but that's OK, and the cars around you don't care that your going less of the speed than you would in your car. We drive more carelessly in cagers than on bikes.

On my third year of riding and over 50k miles later I have yet to find myself bored of riding. Left early this morning to go hit the Kancamagus Highway and spent a few hours enjoying the twisties and the views. I commute which makes up close to half of my mileage. Unfortunately winters here are shit and they don't maintain the roads well. I'm deprived of riding from about mid December to early March due to consistent icy conditions. I will say that the rush after being deprived for about 3mo is absolutely incredible, but I'd still prefer to live somewhere I can ride year round. I always encourage people to hit some dirt roads for the experience. I never really had the option to avoid it since I have lived on a dirt road since before I started riding. Only time it's real sketchy is after heavy rain, Harleys don't handle mud too well haha. Gravel roads, I'm talking the HEAVY gravel roads, those are a bitch and I will avoid them if I can. It's just miserable to ride on that shit lol. I've been down once so far. Last year a dog decided to try and hitch a ride lol. Shit happens, get up and get back on. Lmao- I live on a dirt road that's basically a wash/creek bed. The sand gets up to a foot deep in spots after a monsoon blows through. It just sucks your tires in and it's all over from there. I ride HDs and have a Goldwing. I've tipped them all over in deep sand- no damage/injuries. I've often wondered about others misadventures when riding big heavy bikes on dirt. Thanks- Keep them knees in the breeze.

1. Fear of crashing. Many have ridden for long times without crashing. Stay within your limits and avoid night and rain riding at first. 2. Fear of highway riding; they're easier than you think and have fewer risks. 3. Fear of damaging motorcycle 4. ? 5. Afraid of a longer trip. Make plans that include fun roads. 6. Fear of carrying a passenger 7. Fear of getting bored.

Good video, even though I have been riding for 29 years, some Highway riding is nerve racking. Chattanooga Tennessee I 75 is a prime example. Grooved payments, road construction, idiots and you better be going at least 80 mph or you will get run over or cut off. Best advice is to stay with the traffic flow, scan for idiots, concrete on the road ahead of you and do not panic or take alternative safer routes. And yes ride the motorcycle whenever possible. It can make a mundane ride to the grocery store exciting.

I have a Honda CBR300R (purchased by my dad and purely that slow because I live in Australia and laws are dumb). I have a small meetup with some people every week ran by my psychologist and the road to get to it is a heavy gravel road like 500 meters long. It also has 2 cattle grates. Very fun to go along but also very difficult.

Because the driving school teach you with scooter so you gotta fork out a little extra on specialized school! Trinidad 🇹🇹 is weird dude but thank God for the Yammidy noob! I took the MSF course years ago, bought a 650 thumper and immediately rode 120 miles to the next city, where I picked up a lady for some riding. Take small risks that make sense, but don't take stupid risks.

wrecked my bike on Spicewood Springs back in April. my girl told me it's her or the bike after that. so I'm thinking I want a gsx-s750. in truth my current bike (buell S2 T) only needs a faring and it'll be ready to go again. I'm hoping I'll be ready by the end of summer.#1 question people ask, will you ride again. my answer, I'm 41. been riding since I was a kid. this was 100% my fault so yea I can't freaking wait to be back out there. love the content guys keep it up.

I can really recommend to do a trip on your motorcycle for a few days of ya feel comfortable. Makes the whole mental aspect easier. Ya really learn to ride safely, how to ride with a heavier bike and how to plan routes

My first bike it's an MT-03, and my first experience was 80 mph highway riding. I did about a half hour of riding around to get familiar. I have never rode a bike otherwise.

got clipped by a BMW last Monday and ended up shattering my hand, currently am fixing my bike with a cast on as it was an uninsured driver and my insurance won't do anything about it. don't care about my hand or bruises am just upset about my bike 😅

Made my first ride Friday went out did a 30 mile first ride held about 45 to 50 and on My way home the last 5 miles it's started raining so I guess I'm just gonna learn in the hard stuff first lol

It finally happened, been watching for YEARS, waiting to hop on a bike, well this weekend, I completed my MSF course and got my M class license. Going to get a bike this coming weekend. Beyond excited to no longer be in the intros as "or those waiting to get their first bike" anyone got any lesser known tips/ cheap but good gear recommendations?

definitely some shoes with some form of toe reinforcement, and a perforated leather riding jacket, mine are Speed and Strength, the shoes look like hi-tops and the jacket is some weaboo lookin samurai ass bullshit, but it's bright white and had full D30

I had my 125cc license for 2 weeks and I find the highways the easiest place to drive. Not being able to go fast (because of the small engine of course) doesn't make it scary, but a bit boring

I'm gonna have to suggest that we define which highways we're exactly talking about with regards to the unreasonable fears involving them. There are two kinds, you know, at least in the U.S... State Routes have black and white signs, frequently range in posted speed limits from 45 to 55 mph (at least around here) and can be plenty curvy for the fun of riding and challenging skills... Interstate Routes have blue shield-shaped signs with red banners and white lettering and typically have posted limits from 65 mph and upwards. They're smooth, relatively safe, and fast... AND they bore the sh*t out of me. Since many towns and cities have expected speed limits in the range of 45 mph anyway, then we shouldn't fear getting to the State Routes and taking actual trips out to the 55-ish limits... While understandably, an unfamiliar machine (in the beginning) can be intimidating to go for the 75+ of the Interstates and with some of the unpredictable behavior of other motorists, such fears are at least forgivable. Gotta walk before we can run or fly... ;o)

Ive travelled the interstates to make time. Ive run steady miles, at 85 -90 mph- mostly the Southwest. Always puckers my ass up tight. Nothing over 70 really feels at all.

Taking out your bike 3 times a week is depressing I use mine as a main transportation method, all day every day. Helps that I can split lanes freely so it's basically the solution to traffic here

Yes confidence is good but do not get over confrident as that is when things go wrong. Show offs on the road tend to get in to trouble both legal and safty wise. As far as learning to ride goes if you have an experianced rider and are not required by law to attend a rider training course to get your license an experianced rider can do just fine.

I've ridden a bunch in the rain- sketchy at times. Standing water on the interstates puckers my ass up tight. But yeah, it's easy enough provided you got gear and slow the fk down a bit.

I was afraid two or three times on the freeway. But after that it's no problem. Don't push your limits and keep your finger ready for the horn. If you got one of those wussy horns, that's a problem.

After 40+++ years of riding I never get bored. I bought my first sportbike in 1982. I now own a Harley XR1200 which is the furthest thing from boring. I am 58 and it is like banging a 22 year old stripper everytime I ride it. It is a terrible street bike harder to ride than all off my sportbikes including my first gen GSXR750. They were brutal back in the day. The XRs are one of those bikes that people hated and were better on the track.
